Camping at AuSable Point

We left right after school on Thursday. Checked into our favorite site at AuSable Point State Campground ... site #76. This is a great shakedown trip location as it's only about 30 miles from home. All systems checked out including furnace, hot water heater, water pump, and my frige which was purring away on gas for the first time in three years! Makes it so much easier than lugging ice chests. Thank you Integrity RV Sales and Service (Plattsburgh, NY) for getting it right! Honda 2000i Gen gave us electricity to watch movie "Australia". Enjoyed first Scrabble tourny of the year.

The view is of the "backwater" wetland of Lake Champlain. The lake-side sites are always windy. The sites here on the marsh are filled with wildlife. (not us! ) We saw beaver, heron, osprey, mallard ducks, fish jumping, .... frogs croaking but of course didn't see them.

Set up includes two folding lounge chairs, a hammock and of course two chairs for Kathy's little dogs. They are old girls, will be 13 in June and I guess that translates to around 90 years old. They never bark. Wish I could say the same for the dogs a few sites down the loop!


For me camping always includes a fire at least once a trip. This first one of the season seemed especially perfect!




Came home Sunday to spend Monday doing laundry and housework before another work week. Next trip is June 4th ... a longer trip to Lafargeville, NY (3-4 hr. drive) to a bluegrass festival,.. 4 days.

What a pretty site. Know what you mean about barking dogs. Yesterday a camper came to my door (they know I work here) and asked if I could do something about the barking dog next to them which I had also been listening to for about a half hour. I walked down and they had left it tied up outside and it had gotten tangled up in a turned over canvas chair and could only move about 2 feet. Of course, no one at the camper. Walked down to the pool and asked if anyone there was in site 30. A man steps forward and I told him his dog had been barking for about half an hour because it was tangled up. Told him the rules stated "Don't tie your dog up outside unless you are right there with it." Guy says, well, he usually doesn't bark.
What part of the rules don't they understand? There are always some people who feel the rules don't apply to them, only to others. Grrrrrrr!!

Cedar, what a lovely site. Love the fire pics, now I want to get out the marshmellows. Looks like it was a good 1st time out for the year, no matter how short. Bright side, June 4th is not too far off. Thanks for sharing your weekend. Linda

Fantastic pics. Would love a campfire, but it's in the high 80's and dry here at Seminole Canyon State Park off US 90 west of Del Rio. They have a guided tour of the canyon but it's just too danged hot and DH's foot is acting up. We may just change our plans again and go where it is cooler.

Went to summer camp in the Adirondacks on Saranac Lake and the plane from NY flew into Plattsburg where we were picked up in a big truck. carold

Speaking of Marshmallows. I brought back a bag of those enormous ones from Mexico for a friend. She was more pleased with them than anything else I brought her.
I haven't heard of the movie Australia. What's it about? Australia? I just watched Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, which was set in Australia. Loved it, watched it twice. (Thanks to Echo, who loaned me that and The Bucket List among others.)

Sparkle,... the movie "Australia" is about the cattle ranches at the time of WWII. Nicole Kidman stars. A bit predictable in places but on a 1-10 scale I'd give it an 8 at least. Scenery is great. It's a 2008 film. Netflix says... "In the days leading up to World War II, Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) inherits a sprawling cattle ranch in northern Australia. Threatened by land barons, she reluctantly joins her farmhand (Hugh Jackman) as he drives 2,000 head of cattle across the outback. While on the grueling trek, they witness the Japanese bombing of Darwin, which heralds Australia's entry into the war. Director Baz Luhrmann co-wrote this captivating historical epic Oscar nominated for Best Costume Design."
