Bored with over-the-air or cable/satellite tv? Check out Roku and YouTube.
Roku is available at Walmart. Buy it at Walmart, keep your receipt, don't like it, return it. I love Walmart because it has a "no questions asked" return policy - I think it's 30 days, but check with your local Walmart to be sure. The Roku is from about $29.00, no monthly fees.
https://www.roku.com/products/playersMostly I watch YouTube videos via my Roku. I have had
nothing more than a Roku box for my television watching for the
past eight years. And I
ALWAYS find something interesting to watch!!
I watch YouTube on my 42" 4K tv set, using my Roku box. All of the programming I watch on YouTube is FREE. The Roku box costs from $29.00. Once you have your Roku, that's it. There is NO monthly fee (unless you wish to subscribe to "Premium" channels).
Setting up the Roku box is dead easy. Basically, "plug and play". Last time I checked, you do need to enter a credit card number - but this is only so that if you want to rent a movie. I have had Roku - and NO cable, satellite or tv antenna - for the past eight years.
I realize that those of you who are "full timers" probably don't have access to the bandwidth required for YouTube, but those of you at home - there is,
literally, a "channel" for whatever interests
you. Sometimes it can take a bit to find your "niche" on YouTube, but, trust me on this - it
is there, and
you are missing it. Many - if not most of the "shows" below are in HD or 4K (high definition).
Here are my favorite "channels" (some of these upload a new "show" every day - "shows" generally last from 1/2 hour or so +/-, with commercials only for a minute or so at the beginning):
RVerTV (natch!)
Jeff Horchoff (beekeeping)
Swedish Homestead (homestead farming in Sweden)
Apau Hawaii Tours (LOTS of videos on the Kilauea eruption in Hawaii)
Fredrick Dunn (beekeeping)
Vino Farm (beekeeping)
Pecos Hank (stormchaser - tornadoes)
Vet Ranch (veterinarian helping ill and injured animals)
Michigan Rocks (rock hounding in Michigan)
Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Utah (rehabilitating ill and injured raptors - birds of prey, including Bald Eagles)
Home Made Home (refurbishing/rebuilding derelict houses)
Most anything to do with volcanoes
Nicole Hanna (wire-wrap jewelry making)
628 Dirt Rooster (beekeeping)
Swan Lake (maybe a dozen or more full-length versions of the famous ballet)
& Etc.!Ps. You will notice that I seem to like beekeeper videos, which is odd - I don't particularly like bees, I am allergic to bee stings, and I don't like the taste of bee honey and never eat it. But I find the bee keeper videos fascinating and often quite funny.
Check out Roku and YouTube if you are bored with being spoon-fed what the cable industry WANTS you to watch, and not what you, personally might CHOOSE to watch -
if you had the choice! You'll be glad you did.
Anyone else on here love Roku?
