Sunny in NÉ TN this Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunny in NÉ TN this Wednesday

Postby Birdie » Wed Sep 04, 2019 10:07 am

Beautiful sunny and cool skies in here in tri-cities area of northeastern TN. I am visiting with my friend, Nancy aka Red, in Bristol, TN. Not to be confused with Bristol, VA which is on the other side of the street. It has been “warm” in the 80’s but sure doesn’t feel that way. Nights are in the 60’s.

We went sight seeing yesterday and saw birthplace of David (Davy) Crockett. Quite a hero. I had forgotten he resigned his congressional seat over the reassignment of the native Americans to the West.

We also went to see the President Andrew Johnson National Historic Site which was where he lived and had his tailoring shop. He was sworn in at the death of President Lincoln. I didn’t know or forgot he was a strict Constitutionist. Lots of problems for him with that belief. He said states should make and enforce their laws and not be told from the feds what and how to do it. I think we are still battling that along with color and sex discrimination. He also wanted to abolish the electoral college. He was one vote shy of being impeached and vetoed statehood for a couple of states to help himself stay in office. Lots I had forgotten. Was a great review on history.

Laundry today in preparation of having clean clothes for my trip back home, I think tomorrow. Looks like Dorian will rain and blow some but not damage us in north central FL.

Have a fun day and be safe wherever you are doing whatever.

Birdie, looks like you are having a nice Dorian vacation. It doesn't look like the winds will reach where you live. Summer is almost over and it's getting hotter here. Yesterday it was 100.

I was thinking about what to cook for supper yesterday when I remembered I had my meeting and didn't need to cook. Not too impressed with the restaurant we went to. It is basically a fast food place with a bar. You have to go to the counter, order and pay. They give you a glass and you get your own drink and they call your name when your food is ready. The lady in front of me was paying with a credit or debit card and a screen came up with 3 blocks for tips, 15%, 18% and 20%. I think that's pretty nervy when you are waiting on yourself. I don't know if you could cancel that because I paid with cash. We were in the bar sitting at high tables with bar stools. You had to go to the bar to order a drink. I wan't paying $6 for a 1/3 glass of wine. If someone would have gone around taking drink orders they would have sold a lot more drinks. I don't know how much business they usually have but if we hadn't been there they wouldn't have had much business. Afterwards the manager said she could have put some tables together for us on the restaurant side and it would have been easier to have a meeting. I don't think we would have bothered the 3 tables of people there. The only plus for me was my hamburger was very good.

Last night when I headed home my tire sensor light came on. I stopped and the tires looked ok to me. It was 8:30 and I don't know who I could have gotten to help if I had a flat. I made it home. This morning I checked and one of the front tires was down about 10 lbs. I aired it up and will check later to see if I need to go get it checked.

I think I will have to mow early because we have dark clouds move in every afternoon. Even if it doesn't rain I am not taking a chance with the lightening.

I agree that those self-serve places shouldn't expect tips. One place out here like that does have a tip jar for the cook. I went to one kind of like that yesterday where I ordered at the counter but they did have a waitress who brought it to my table and then checked on me later. I left a tip for her.

Finished my hair cut class. I did learn some new techniques. The instructor was very nice. He told me today that he had a dinner meeting last night with the area shop managers and my manager told him that I am a real asset to her team and shop, so that was nice to hear!

My car said it was 121* out when I was done with my class. Inside, my temp was at 139*! :o I grabbed my sunglasses and burned my hand on the metal frame! Dropped those quick! Until the AC started to cool things off some, my skin felt like it was burning! That is too hot! Even my bottle of Propel was too hot to touch. By the time I got home, it was still almost too hot to pick up to bring inside the house! Where are those cooler temps they keep talking about???

Will go back out later for our community dinner at Applebee's.

I heard the Bahamas really got wiped out. Dorian just sat over that area for over a day doing constant damage and destruction the whole time! I can't even imagine trying to survive a storm that bad for that long! :o

A large brush fire just broke out a few hours ago near Temecula, not far from where I used to live and work in Lake Elsinore about 10 years ago. It is about 1000 acres right now but luckily the winds have died down so hopefully they can get it under control pretty soon. Several neighborhoods have been evacuated. It is right by the Santa Rosa Plateau preserve that I have hiked at several times. There were storms in that area earlier today so they think it may have been started by a lightning strike. It is very hilly around there with lots of old oak trees so maybe one of them was struck.

Had a nice time at the dinner with about 25 of us there. The waiter came over and announced that everyone would get the senior discount... except for me! He said I wasn't old enough! :o He was joking of course, and everyone laughed. Comments like that are flattering but also make me feel uncomfortable  .

Time for bed. Back to work tomorrow... even tho I get paid for the training, I don't get any tip money which is about half of my income. I use that money for gas and food. I need to buy gas tomorrow.

Good morning,,,,,,
Cool down next week and then another week of triple digits, after that it should stay down. Barbie,,,,never leave your water bottles in the car the heat causes crap to leach out of the plastic and it makes you very sick. Its on the news here often as a reminder.
Nothing else happening here.
Ya'll enjoy your day.

Ava, good morning! You are a day behind tho! This is yesterdays MC!

Thanks for letting me know about the water. I like to keep water in my car to drink. Will have to come up with another plan.
