Wednesday and Rain

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday and Rain

Postby Othersharon » Wed Aug 28, 2019 11:50 am

Just after noon here and it’s been a rainy morning. And cool. I’m debating on if it’s time to take the air conditioner out of the window. I’m sure we’ll have some warm days but nights are cool and my house stays fairly comfortable without using it this time of year. I have a pot of potato soup simmering for dinner tonight. Seems like that kind of day and I’ve been hungry for it. I’ve been watching the storms out in the Atlantic and hoping all is going to be okay for those of you in its possible path. I went into State College the other day completely forgetting the students are coming back. Traffic was horrible and store lots were full so I went to the pet store and got out of there! Time to start paying attention to football week ends and avoiding going anywhere near there! Beth, I imagine things are gearing down for you. When will you be able to head south? I’m looking forward to a few days the end of September camping in elk country. That’s the only plans I have but would love to get away for at least one more trip before then. Don’t know where but someplace! By mid month many of the state parks will be closing their campgrounds so may have to get creative!! COE parks close down too. Here I am worrying about colder weather coming in and I keep seeing how warm you all out west are!
I have a chiropractor appointment in awhile so better get myself ready to go. Hope you all have a great day and enjoy it.

Good morning gals!

Lots on my list of things to do today. Getting a slow start. I may have to add a call to the vet. Lola's diarrhea is getting worse, if that is possible! I am out of options. I did order the canned food again to see if that will help. The only thing that has changed is putting her on dry food and taking her off the anti-biotic she was on for several weeks (he gave me about a 6 month supply!). I am giving that to her again. Will check with her vet to see if there is anything else I can do at this point. She is losing weight again (which is why I want to try the canned food again).

I wish I could open the windows at night. I did open one bedroom window for a short time the other night but as soon as the sun starts coming up, it heats up quick. I need to get the screen on the other bedroom window so I can get a cross breeze in there on cooler nights.

I better get moving here... have a good day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

What a drastic change since yesterday, in a very good way! At this hour yesterday, it was 100 and reached 104 by late afternoon. Today right now it's only 84 with clouds passing by on way to Sierras. Maybe, just maybe we won't get another triple digit ! I can always hope!
I've been to Curves and picked up Mandy's favorite Salmon dry food and am hydrating before getting on treadmill for a mile or so. Have a 5 k near end of September. Won't run it, but hope to beat my last walk time.
Took 31 cut boxes to recycle yesterday, total 60 go e for week. Also filled to brim both big trash bins. Next start piling more of Mel's electronic junk in a box for city pick up on September 11. Slowly I'm reclaiming my bedroom. Decks are on hold as handyman sprained his neck and has muscle spasm from pinched nerve.
Tomorrow RV Time will be here to work on van. Once the fridge, heat, and water heater all work on propane and generator is fixed at Holley Generator, then hopefully I can plan to use van on fall trips. Maybe, just maybe, make it to pow wow.
Hope everyone is traveling or staying safe. I'm looking forward to Lyn's visit in day or two.

Got my new satellite dish this morning, so I have TV for the first time in almost two weeks. Yea!! Sort of like being without a microwave for me. And satellite installation is getting cheaper. In 2013, I paid $1,300 for a satellite and receiver and installation. I did not need new wiring this time, but the dish, receiver, and installation cost only about $600.

Other good news is that Outlook is working. Mine has had a big for about 6 months, but hated the thought of deleting it and reinstalling, plus having to back up files and possibly losing contact information or files. I had gone through all th online fixes but none of them fixed anything, so I have bee accessing email through the inter ent, which is a lot harder. Have at least 500 emails regarding my aunt and uncle in the inbox. So, now it is working, which means one of the Office downloads had fixed the bug and now I can more easily sort and organize them all. Have a LOT to just delete. It has not been an easy job to handle the medical issues for two relatives. I am getting constant calls asking permission to treat them or not treat them after falls, etc. Plus, they have ignored their teeth for several years, so each has a list of procedures they need done, including a couple of caps.

Something you might find interesting: Florida requires all memory care and nursing homes to have a hurricane evacuation plan. The assisted living place we moved them from had a very basic plan: relatives had to sign something to agree to come and remove their parents or elderly relatives within 24 hours of notice. Like how practical is that when families live out of town, as many do????

This new place requires an evacuation bag. They provide a large, sealable bag, but you have to provide for each patient, a new pillow, sheet set, blanket, towel set, hard-soled slippers, socks, pajamas, basic toiletries such as comb, brush, shampoo, toothpaste and razors plus a ton of other things in travel size, and three sets of comfortable clothing, including socks, and underwear!!! Plus, they have an agreement with other facilities and transportation companies to move residents either north or south or wherever they might need to take them. And finally, like the place where my mother lived for several years, they have a generator the size of large van for emergency power!!

I spent an hour last night on Amazon shopping for the above items and having them shipped Prime to Florida. The only thing I did not get were the three sets of clothing, but they will pack that up if an evacuation occurs. The lady in charge of evacuation plans, will intercept the boxes, mark everything with my aunt and uncle's names, and seal everything in the bags.

Lot better planning than "Come get your relative," isn't it??

Judy, I don't remember what part of Florida your aunt and uncle are in. Hope they don't have to be evacuated. That has to be traumatic for people that are confused anyway. The nursing home Harold was in had a flood problem. It wasn't low but was built on the down slope of a hill so big rains would flood the nursing home. Twice while Harold was there they had to put up the big rubber tubes they fill with water to divert the water. I can't believe anyone in Louisiana wouldn't raise the foundation of a building instead of just putting it even with the ground. I don't care if I was building on a hill I would build a mound before I poured a slab. There are two subdivisions being built North of here that I wouldn't buy a house in. There was a lot of dirt work done before they started building. Those houses are going to settle eventually.

I have Outlook too and ever year or so they make "improvements" that I don't like. I have to relearn how to use it.

I was hoping it wouldn't rain today but we got a big rain this afternoon. I am so sick of this weather.

They are in Venice, FL, about three miles from the coast. I think this hurricane with be north and east of them, but you never know.

In 2014, I visited Buccaneer State Park along the Gulf in Mississippi. It was completely destroyed by the hurricane that hit New Orleans so hard. Any way, there are pictures here on my blog that shows how they rebuilt everything up in the air on stilts. Even the main electrical boxes were on stilts. And the entrance booth had the offices on the second floor, with nothing except a room with a window to deal with entering campers. https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogI ... 1071138627

I have a friend in Crystal River who lives right on a canal off the river. Several years ago they were flooded out from the storm surge of a hurricane. Took 8 months for them to finally move back in. They have had a couple of close calls since then. I suggested that they put their home up on stilts when they remodeled but I guess that would have cost too much. They plan to sell in a couple years after her husband retires and move further inland. I think they shouldn't wait. With the stronger hurricanes and the rising ocean levels they may end up with more destruction to their home before them and/or have a harder time selling it then. There are a few homes in their neighborhood that have already been raised up.

I got to Curves around noon and made a lot of stops after that, one of which was to make an appointment to get an oil change for my Jeep on Friday and some other things checked out on it. Then I met with my friends/neighbors for dinner at a local casino for the buffet. For only $10, it was very good food! My friend Cindy was there so we sat together and got caught up on things, Haven't seen her for awhile, so that was fun. I now have several growing friendships here. Another friend is going to follow me to drop my Jeep off on Friday, bring me home and then take me back later to pick it up.

Been having some issues with my laptop lately. The screen goes blank until I move the top of the laptop back and forth to get it to show up again. Has to be just in the right position or it will go blank again. Sometimes too I will get a double or triple vision thing going on with the screen so I have to shut it all down and restart it again to get rid of that. Will probably have to get a new one soon but will wait until I can't deal with it anymore before I do that. (I'm getting close! )

Have a good night!
