Friday is Passing

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday is Passing

Postby Bethers » Fri Aug 09, 2019 4:27 pm

I got a call before 7 this morning that our grocery delivery was waiting for the store to open. So my day started a tad earlier than I planned. Lots of mishaps between several orders. A couple might have been mine, most were suppliers. Luckily it's the tail end of Sturgis and we'll make it through without some products.

I'm so excited about meeting up with Karen (retiredhappy) when I leave here that when I couldn't sleep last night I planned my route lol. And she was able to SD me onto a your she and her daughter planned in Canyon de Chelley. I love that place and have never done that tour! It's been way too long since I've seen Karen. Location and tour a plus!

Afternoon here but thought I would update everyone on what's been going on in my life the last several months.

My Mom sold her way-too-big-for-her home (4k sqft). I had an apartment in the basement so I moved into my travel trailer (WAY cheaper than an apartment around here). I found a nice mobile home park that had 7 rv spots and I got the last one. So I was helping my Mom pack, I was packing, and it took about 3 months to get her out of her house and into her new one. She had a living estate sale so I was able to throw a bunch of my stuff in that so didn't have to take as much to storage.

We got her all moved in and about 3 weeks after that, she had a knee replacement. That took a significant amount of my time as well although my sister was able to come up for the first week after surgery.

Then, I found a small, older (okay really old. As old as me. My sister asked if it was in better shape  ) mobile home here in the park at an amazing price so jumped on it and just finished moving in last week. The park was sold during the process and the new owner decided to jack up the lot rent. I should've only had to pay $414 since I already lived in the park, but no, I had to pay the higher rent of $625  OK, well, not much I can do about it but it was going to have a pretty big impact to my budget. So, my Mom and I talked and we decided to trade in my trailer on a small motor home that both of us can drive or travel together.

We got a 2018 (used) Winnebago Fuse 23A. It has twin beds so much better than a corner bed for her to try to crawl into and I don't have to sleep in the over-cab bed. My Mom makes the majority of the payment on the motor home with me paying a portion of it and I can use it anytime I want. We store it at her house so no storage fees.

I leave tomorrow for the coast for a week of camping in the motor home. I don't even know if everything works. We got a really crappy walk thru and I should've stayed there and tested everything myself but it was super hot and I really needed the so called "expert" to show me where all the stuff was located. My Mom has been studying the manuals and said she has most of it figured out and is going to show me some stuff when I go over there tonight to load up some things. I'm a little nervous that I won't have everything I need because I just boxed everything up in the trailer. I have a sewer hose, water hose, regulator, towels, a Travasak, some kitchen utensils, paper plates, and silverware. They have a Dollar Store where I'm going so whatever I don't have, I will pick up there.

The last thing that happened was with the dog. Many of you know I've had Harley since he was 10 weeks old. Well, he turned 15 in May. I had been dealing with some issues with him for about 18 months. He was waking me up at least once a night to go for a walk but usually twice. I was not getting any sleep and having issues at work staying awake at my desk. He was also barking all day while I was at work which bothered the neighbors. He was peeing all day as well so I was just putting down potty pads which he used just fine (and I didn't care about the peeing. That's what potty pads are for). I finally couldn't function anymore with no sleep so I contacted the breeder and she agreed to take him for his twilight years. He has dementia and is deaf and is so much happier at the breeder. He and his litter-mate sister wander around together in their yard and Harley has people and other dogs around all day. The breeder said he barks pretty much all day and night but they live in the country and it isn't a problem. I would appreciate people not judging me for doing this. I did what I had to do. I couldn't euthanize him because I had him thoroughly checked at the vet and he had nothing physically wrong with him. I did commit to have him for his natural life but I also have to have a job. It was the hardest decision I've ever made in my life but I know I did the right thing. Had I been retired, it wouldn't have been a big deal and I would still have him.

So, that's what my life has been. I was super happy to re-home my Andersen Hitch with Barbie for her new trailer. And yes, it has the right size trailer ball ;)

I'll post pictures of the motor home when I get set up camping and some of the house when I get back. I still have boxes stacked everywhere...sigh

Good evening. Been busy today getting the Motorhome cleaned and ready to travel tomorrow morning. Had a severe weather alert for today and tomorrow as in Thunder Lightning and Rain. Already have a few small fires with the biggest now being the Ward Fire 18 miles east of Klamath Falls on the CA/OR border. Lots of small spot fires from the lightning. They were ready for it, air tankers, dozers and firefighters. Hopefully they will get them all under control. Haven't seen the dog for a few hours since the first rain drops fell on the roof. She hides under my bed so I do know where she is. It is all calm right now so she might appear soon.

Looking forward to a week at the coast. Don't know what the weather will be like but hey, I am camping. Have a few things to pick up at the store of course but can do that when I am parked.

Congratulations Laura. Wow, what a lot of changes. I think you made the right choice for both you and Harley. It sounds like he’s happy in his new surroundings, you know he’s happy and no longer lonesome during the day, and you can get your needed sleep confident you did the right thing. Can’t wait to see some pics of your new-to-you MH.

Laura, you have been really busy moving 2 people. Glad the breeder was able to take Harley. My Hank is getting a little dementia. He is ok at home but when I had to evacuate from the last storm it really confused him. I'm glad I live in the country and he can bark all he wants.

I went to Best buy to get a new monitor. It doesn't work like the old one and of course I don't know what to do about it. Someone will come buy that knows more than I do and fix it for me. I managed to mess around long enough that I got to Walmart at 5:00. Not a smart thing to do on a Friday afternoon. We are still under a heat advisory and the heat just wears me out.

I went by the old trailer to see how much got bush hogged. Most of the lot around the trailer got cut, I just need to go with some brush killer to kill some of the weeds. I am trying to get the utilities run to it so I will have a place to go when we have a storm. We'll see how far I get with it this time.

Laura, I know how hard that decision with Harley must have been. From how you've described it, I believe it's the best. Agonizing and sad, but ultimately the best. Hugs to you. On the issue of the park being sold and your rates going up, that stinks. Unfortunately it happens frequently. You and your Mom going in on a rig sounds awesome. I'll be happy to hear about your first trip.

Karen, fingers crossed those fires are contained and no new ones start. Speaking of which, several years ago fireworks were stopped at Mt Rushmore because of the threat of fires. Should one occur the fire departments all say it would be near impossible to protect the monument. So fireworks were discontinued indefinitely, basically forever. This summer news has come about they will resume next year. And since we try to keep politics off the forum I'll only say it's a political issue. I just know it's stupid to do anything that could threaten the future of the monument this way so I'm saddened by this news.

Hi everyone! It's been too long since I've been here but we have crossed the country and are heading in a southeasterly direction. Right now, we are in Pahrump NV and will go to Boulder City on Sunday.

(((Laura))) You made the right decision.

Laura, I knew about some of your changes but not all. You have had your hands full for sure! Hope you can get the motorhome figured out and get what you need for it. I am also gonna wait and see what I need as I go. Having the hitch will bring me closer to getting on the road with it. Thank you for that!
I had an older cat once who also was blind and had dementia and would meow all night long (a very loud, screaming meow!) I couldn't sleep at all either. I finally brought her to my dad's house. She was much better there and my dad was retired and able to spend more time with her. She also started peeing all over and he put down plastic and newspaper for her to use. A year or so later I finally had her put to sleep because she was so old (21 years!) and sick by then. So I understand exactly what you were going thru and understand your decision. You gotta do what you gotta do for them and yourself.

I didn't do much today but I did go to a painting party I had signed up for on-line. It was a lot of fun! I haven't painted since I was a kid but have wanted to try it again. Everyone said I did a really good job on it and were surprised that I haven't painted in so long. The instructor showed us a finished painting she did and then showed us step by step how to paint it ourselves. Everyone's painting came out a little different with each person's own creativity. I want to do it again! I will add pics soon!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Laura I'm so sorry to hear of all the things that have happened to you these last few months. I believe you made the right decision for Harley. It sounds like you made his comfort and happiness a priority. (((((HuGS))))) Enjoy your new Winnebago!
