Good morning. At least for a few more minutes. We got through the heat and humidity but had rainstorms too. I actually think it may dry out enough today to be able to mow the yard. I did my running around yesterday. Finally made it to the grocery store since I hadn’t replaced what I used on my trip. I also had to find a new microwave for the house since mine quit. Everything was working but it wouldn’t heat. Guess after 19 years it didn’t owe me anything! I didn’t realize how much I use it until not having it. Mostly reheating leftovers and such. Since I usually cook way bigger meals then I can eat at one time. Just have to get some help to install it. Hopefully sooner then later. It would have been at least a two week wait to have the store install it. And it’s definitely not a one person job!
I’m hoping to get to meet up with Donna while she’s in PA. We haven’t nailed down any dates yet but hope to soon. She’ll only be a couple hour drive from me. Looking forward to catching up with her. Well, the church chimes went off telling me it’s officially afternoon so I’d better get busy and get something accomplished around here. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Anne, regarding your post about heat—if you want to really experience heat and humidity, try southern Florida in mid-July when it is 99 degrees and 95% humidity. Did DisneyWorld that way about 20 years ago. Did not know you could sweat outside at 2 am.

Survived my second cataract surgery. Getting used to having excellent distance vision but poor close vision. Nice to be able to watch tv from bed.

I need to get up and eat some breakfast before heading to Curves this morning.

Partly cloudy right now but possibility of storms later on. I need to cover the cardboard boxes on the patio. They are both really heavy so I can't move them. Will have to cover them with a tarp.

Am meeting our Wednesday dinner group at a nearby casino later this afternoon.

Barbie, vision post cataract surgery depends on lenses chosen. Standard, paid for by Medicare, is either good for distance or close. Some Drs do distance one side and close the other, or you need glasses for the one you are deficient in depending on which you choose. For a considerable financial upgrade you can have all distances in a multifocal lens. I'm waiting for a new lens, coming in next month or so, used in Europe for years, which is supposed to be a game changer.
Another HOT 45% humidity day here. Possibly 104 or hotter and triple digits all week!
I'm off to Curves here soon. Then home to work on to do list.

Checked my favorite weather web-sites, it is predicted to be 108 here at my house on Sunday. The "official" weather station that samples local temps is several miles from me, I know from experience that in my little pocket of the world temps will be 4 or 5 degrees above predicted temps.

So it will probably be 112 or 113 at my house on Sunday.

I guess I need to be thankful that it is "only" a "dry" heat.

LOL. Thanks, but no thanks. I have never visited Florida, never care to (no offence intended to you Floridians out there!).

When temps in the past here have hit what is predicted for Saturday and Sunday, it will generally "cool off" all the way down to 90 degrees or so - by midnight. So I can completely identify with your "sweat outside at 2 am" comment.

But, as they say, I guess I am lucky it is only a "dry heat". Yep, thankful I am.

It is partly - maybe even mostly - due to the excessive "dry heat" we have out here for extended periods of time that makes California subject to so many terrible wild fires. Worst fires here always occur around mid-October, following five or six months of scorching "dry heat" (and no rain). With the high humidity experienced in other parts of the country, vegetation there does not dry out like it does here.

Here's hoping that, by some miracle, the autumn wildfires pass us by this year.

I did not have cataracts, but so disliked wearing glasses. I have the multi-focal lenses and what a game changer. No glasses at all for close, medium or far vision. It was so much fun to stop at the DMV on the 40-mile drive home within 2 hours of having the surgery on the second eye. I took the eye test, passed with flying colors, and had the glasses requirement removed from my license all before I got home. I highly recommend it.

Just got home from Curves. Went pretty well and very quick! I was there and back home in an hour. I think I can stick with this! I am sure I will feel it tomorrow tho! Will go back on Friday. I already feel more motivated to do stuff today now.

They don't put out an excessive heat warning here until it gets to about 112* or more. I will be glad when the humidity drops down on Friday. I do need to get out and do some stuff today whether I like it or not. I just don't like to sweat! I thought it would get cooler at night here than it does, being in the desert. It gets down to the mid 80's, sometimes to the upper 70's which isn't too bad. But those temps don't happen until about 4am. It can still be over 100* by midnight most nights. It is what it is...sigh.

Velda do you have any more information of the lens you are waiting for from Europe? I really need cataract surgery and keep putting it off this area doesn't keep up to date. Also hear there was a shot coming out at the beginning of this year that was supposed to reduce the amount of drops you have to use.

I did not want to take a chance on the multii-focal lens because of the potential to have difficulty adjusting to them and even having to have a redo because of my specific vision. I was also told that the astigmatism would require an additional procedure, which I did not want. I also did not want to spend the $5,000 to $10,000 or even more on them. I do not mind wearing glasses and have all my life. And, no, my near vision will not get better.

Another reason for my reasons for keeping things simple and not undergoing more procedures than necessary is that my mother had a retinal detachment after cataract surgery and lost almost all the vision in one eye, even with reattachment surgery. There is no way I would have a redo if the multifocal lenses did not work out.

My problem right now is that while my distance vision is excellent, all I have is a pair of drugstore reading glasses, which are not quite right and do not fit me correctly. I hate having to take them on and off all the time, so want some permanent glasses soon. Once I find out if I have to stay longer here in Eugene, I will make an appointment to get real reading glasses, and possibly a pair of prescription sunglasses (transitions) that have plain tops but are bifocals. I like them because I do not have to constantly carry a pair of sunglasses around, and they will let me see close things also.

I have a cat scan scheduled this afternoon. I know I had a kidney stone partially stuck in one ureter, almost to the bladder, but that was back in late May. Since it was not completely blocking anything or causing kidney problems, we decided back them to wait and see if it would pass, especially since it was so close. I had a period of pain and bleeding after the last appointment and no symptoms since so I am hopeful it passed. They called me a couple of weeks ago to schedule a procedure to remove it, but I refused to go under anesthesia unless I knew for sure the stone is still there. I will know tomorrow morning if it is gone or still stuck. If it is still stuck, I will need to find a place to stay Monday through Friday, at least. If it is gone, I am headed north to Memmaloose State Park along the Columbia River.

And, I also can get a new drivers license that shows me as not needing glasses, but I have to wait until I am in Ohio in October. In the meantime, I have sent in the paperwork to remove the restriction, but it won't say that on my license until I can get a new photo, etc. in person.

I went back to my tri-focals that get dark because I got tired of looking for glasses to read something and couldn't find any sun glasses I liked. I went to the eye doctor this afternoon for my annual check up and my eyes are still cloudy. They just about blind me shining lights in my eye and taking pictures of the freckle in my left eye. Glad that's over for another year. I managed to pick up cat food and came home.

On the local news a man is barricaded in his house after shooting at someone trying to serve a warrant to him. The are about 15 police vehicles and the swat team there. The very same thing happened 6 months ago when they tried to serve him with a warrant. Since when can you shoot at the police and not be in jail.

I got my hair cut this morning and it looks much better. It was getting pretty wild.

Sharon, I agree, you don't know how much you use a microwave until it quits. While mine was out I would go to put something in it and remember I couldn't use it. I hide Hanks medicine in pieces of wiener and sure missed the 9 seconds it takes to warm it.

The temperatures didn't get to the 60's last night here. I guess i'm too close to the coast. It did get down to 73. Because the cold front made it into the Gulf there is another area they are watching for possible development. I hope we don't have to go through that again. Someone was suppose to come look at the barn roof today but I told them I had a doctor's appointment so don't know if they came.

Since we are in Pacific Time, we are 3 hours behind where we come from so we are busy during the daytime doing things. We left here 9:00 A.M. to catch the 9:40 ferry to arrive Seattle about 10:15 or so. We walked and walked and walked some more. Steve put over 10,000 steps on his pedometer! We went to the fish market everyone talks about and walked through lots of other shops. We went to the 73rd floor of the Columbia Tower which had a 360 degree view of the city. It was awesome. We stopped at the 56th Pier Elliott's Oyster Restaurant for lunch. I had a king crab meat salad and it was out of this world. We stopped at a shirt store & we each bough a fleeced lined wind breaker/hoody which is reversible. Two for $ 25.00. Then we waited for the ferry to take us back to the mainland. We are planning on going back to Seattle Friday to do the things we didn't get around to today. I think all of us will sleep well tonight.

when I've been in WA I have enjoyed the ferry rides... wished that I had gotten to go to Canada the last time I was there but if I remember correctly the weather wasn't so we could go. Am so tired... but my laundry is done!!! even got to hang out the comforter on the line as well as the sheets.... been warm enough that I didn't put my blanket back on...figure if I need it between now and when it gets cold in the fall I can use the throw that I keep in the bedroom hand for that purpose, made lots of trips to my daughters even though I live here on their property its still a bit of a walk up an incline. And when you are out of shape and over weight it makes a difference. my last basket full I had my gs carry it down for me...
ate some of the "lush" with the blackberry filling it was ok but the girls though if I was to make it again either not make a filling with the blackberries just put them on loose or not use blackberries... used them as that is what I had and wanted to use it up.

I have lived where the humidity is up high much prefer our dry heat...my mom has a theory that because our altitude is so high that when it's hot it feels hotter as we are closer to the sun. I can go for it... in Utah it isn';t anything unusual to have heat around the 100+ for a month or so you always know that it will go away and be thankful for it.
If there was a curves here and one in Q it is one that I would be tempted to join but not in either place.

BJ the Dr told me to call in September to find out if the lenses were released by FDA as scheduled. My Dr was part of the research. I'll let you know when I hear anything. I am so tired of astigmatism that I plan to pay for the microscopic inclusions done with laser to correct that and the upgraded lenses. I've worn glasses since I was 2 years old and I deserve the best for my future years! My Dr is pretty sure I can have 20/20 vision once everything is done.
