San Diego Whale Watch Pics

Postby monik7 » Thu Jun 06, 2019 6:26 pm

I went on a 3-hour whale watch leaving from San Diego today. Apparently now is the beginning of blue whale season. They are the largest animal EVER on earth - even bigger than the largest dinosaurs. We saw two blue whales measuring an estimated 90 feet each and lots of dolphins who had great fun riding the boat’s wake at the bow. I could even hear the squeaky/clicking sound dolphins make.

Sandi, so glad you got to see so much. I would have seen nothing, I would have been too busy chumming. I dont do water well unless it is a lake LOL

The water was very calm Karen. The trip was full meaning 142 passengers, and I noticed no one who appeared sick. Everyone was enthralled with what we were seeing.

But the people who don't do water don't get on the boat.... :) Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous!! I’ve done the one off Cape Cod before, it was great, but the waters there are rarely calm. It would be nice to do one where you don’t have to hang on for dear life.

Sandi, I am so-o-o jealous! I have been on 4 or 5 whale watching trips and never saw a whale! Once I did see the tip of the fluke as it swam nearby, but I was on the other side of the boat and the darn critter never surfaced again! Great pics and an amazing experience. Thanks for sharing. Evie

Tina, the people who didn’t get on the boat (if there were any) out of fear of getting sick missed a lot on an extremely calm day. Too bad!

Working on the LuLu Belle I learned some people get sick on a boat in the calmest waters. Just as people can get carsick driving a short distance on straight roads. You really wouldn't want them on your cruise.

Yep, if I don’t properly medicate before flying or boating, you truly wouldn’t want to be within a hundred feet of me. And a boat could be on glass calm waters and I’d still hurl... popped eardrums too many times while deep scuba diving.

Since I can get sick on a floating dock or a swing, I will just have to live vicariously thru my friends. LOL
