Birdie’s on the move

Postby Birdie » Mon May 27, 2019 12:43 pm

I am migrating off the road. I am going to become a part-timer. I will be moving to Florida during June and July of this year. Will keep Suite Pea, my RV, for a while longer....unless someone decides that they want to buy it and in that case it is gone. I am looking forward to this next chapter in my life. I have completed the process of closing and getting utilities set-up. The rest of the story......

I bought a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom mobile home located in Advent Christian Village. You get a 2 for 1 if you visit as Liz (Crussell) Reynolds lives around the corner. Canoes and hiking or walking shoes are encouraged as well as jeans for horseback riding. ACV is located in northern FL.

And NO, I haven’t been working on this forever. It really just kind of happened. I have said frequently that the ACV idea was a great thing but I didn’t think I would ever be able to make the move away from family. But things change when we least expect it. Family dynamics have altered my thinking and after looking at all things, I decided that this move would be the best thing for me right now. So I am off on a new adventure and a lovely journey!

 :o :o :D :D :P That sums it up!

I like plans that don't take a lot of long time preparation. I've always thought Advent Village looked like a wonderful place. I am a little surprised though that you might be part with Suite Pea. :) Congratulations and I hope it all works out well.

Congratulations and I hope that the rest of the moving plans go smoothly. PS: If anyone gets a chance to visit ACV I recommend it. For the wonderful welcoming people both those that we know from here and the kindred spirits that Liz has found. I like that it has some active members that love to go on adventures still and that is offers the continuum of housing and/or care options as the bodies and/or minds begin to age and need those other levels of support.

Wow, that is awesome! Congrats! You will have a great time there and having Liz as a neighbor will be great as well. I understand how priorities can change, especially with family. You just gotta do what is best for you.

Does anyone know if anything like this exists on the west coast?

Thanks.

I know that we have similar residential retirement communities here in Ohio, but I would guess that few have the wonderful setting that ACV has sitting there along the river.

I also don't know how many incorporate both a small campground and mobile/modular homes along with single family, condos independent apts, on up the line. Given that ACV is located in Florida it makes sense that they are attuned to the living options of Floridians.

I've never seen a retirement community that even comes close to this ACV

Thanks ladies! This moving from RV to house is a lot of work. Decided to have the carpet cleaned before I started doing things. I needed an idea of how it would look after being cleaned, so I could decided if I wanted to keep it. It is definitely a muted turquoise! Gorgeous color and a great pad. It is good quality carpet but it is pretty worn and will need replacing in a short while. I just decided to do that now and will get that done before I move my stuff in. Won’t pick up my HHG’s from Texas until around 4th of July. Hopefully storms will be through there by then. It is a late and very active season. I am counting on it being dry that weekend while moving. It is just getting active here. It is raining with thunder now. (10:00 pm Sat 6/15.) I know the LA ladies are wanting dry, dry, dry. Martha I hope it’s drying up for you all. I am having the bathroom remodeled and I am remodeling the storage room. It, the storage room, is quite large as my kayak will fit in it. I have pulled down the paneling and will do some things to make the room a little nicer, then I will paint the shelving and I should be good to go. Have picked up furniture from the store that many of the folks here donate to either when leaving or just don’t need anymore. I donated curtains, a coffee table and shoe rack. Got a great small dresser that is gorgeous and old....heavy little thing and a nice pop up coffee table. Had the house power washed and it looks greater! Have been cleaning the cabinets this afternoon and may be painting some shelves tomorrow. Liz Reynolds came over this morning and we put together a breakfast kitchen cart. It is neat! I will see about posting some pics as the work is completed. It is certainly a big change from the RV to the house! I will do a little traveling and not sure if I will do big trips of smaller ones. Expect to see some of my RVing sistah’s down here at our RV FHU park. We have excellent prices for our friends.

Birdie, been waiting for an update on your move. Another new adventure for you. My latest adventure was assembling a little bistro set for the teeny tiny balcony. It came in a small box from Amazon. Was afraid I had ordered a child’s table and chairs. :D Will be watching for your pictures.
