Memorial Day 2019

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Memorial Day 2019

Postby IrishIroamed » Mon May 27, 2019 1:17 am

Mornin ladies~~~or it will be in a few hours ;)

This is the sad holiday during the year, too me anyway. Although I wasnt in the service, or lost any in the family, this holiday just has that effect on me, especially since I've seen a couple national cemeteries. Good bless rhem for paying the ultimate price. Sometimes I think people just gloss over the real reason behind it.

It's still in the wee hours of the morning, but I can't shut my brain off. To much to think about. For those not on FB, a doozy of a storm came thru Cheyenne, WY last night and most people in the CG have suffered damage, including me. I'll list mine below, but I know one couple just picked up a brand new car yesterday and their 5er has 3 broken sky lights. All the vehicles around me have damage. The hail was from 2" to 4" at least the ones I found. I have 2 claims opened with my insurance company so will have to see what the next steps are, but they did say weather damage is always escalated. The truck is my major concern right now. The camper is damaged but could be driven somewhere if needed. First thing in the morning I need to talk to the CG and try to extend my stay for at least a week, or until the dust settles.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good holiday. Just remember the reason, if only for a minute. Stay safe and enjoy the day.

Damage:

CAMPER:
Dented front cap
Missing running light
Broken Maxx Air cover
King antenna broken

TRUCK:
Windshield & both sunroof panels cracked
Truck multiple dents
Broken windshield wiper

Cheryl, remembering all those who made the ultimate sacrifice is definitely hard. And maybe that's part of why I can't sleep, too.

I really feel for all your damage. My first hail damage claim was the summer after purchasing this rig. Never got any on the old rig I had prior. Then my car and rig got it again. I hope with all your previous things, this is the last for you. And I hope your insurance company Hannah's your claims quickly... And fairly.

After two good weather days (with just a short rain spell today) it looks like cooler temps the next couple days with lots more rain. But at least it's cooler, not colder lol

Wow, Cheryl, glad you’re okay, that’s just fierce!

I hear you about Memorial Day, I used to go visit my parents graves at the National Cemetery on this day, but too much hoopla for me these days. Not sure when it crossed over from a solemn remembrance to a party, but it’s not for me... I wait until another quieter day and go say hello.

Can someone post a link to the FB group, I keep looking for it but can’t find it.

Mickie, I don't think there is a formal FB "group" out there specifically formed for this group on FB. It is just that many of us have friended one another on FB. If you find one of us you can usually follow the links to others whose names you will recognize.

I think there are several "closed" groups that have been formed over time that you can join and other FB groups for RVing. Many of the members belong to several and they connect to many many other people outside those that post here. I am sure that others can jump in and give you some of those options that they find useful and enjoyable. We each have personal choices to be made as to how much time and energy we have to devote to electronic media groups and how much we want to share on what sites. Have fun!

I was a member of one that I thought was a direct offshoot of this place, a woman named Alice was the first admin??

I believe that one is Women Who RV, but there are several women rv groups on FB. Over the years I've been weaning myself off most of them.

I really slept poorly last night. I hoped that meant I'd sleep in this morning, but that didn't happen either. One of my weather apps currently says we're getting light rain while another shows no rain at the moment. Lol. The somewhat better weather this weekend, along with the long weekend, has finally meant we're seeing it get busier.

Good morning gals!

I did a lot of nothing yesterday. I guess I needed a day off to relax after the long day of loading, driving and unloading the day before. Got to bed early last night and slept good and woke up early this morning.

Have a lot to do today. Need to get some more boxes and then tackle the rest of the stuff in my bedroom.

My agent said something last night about a final walk-thru this Thursday or Friday  . This place won't look very good yet, especially the yard. I thought walk-thru's were done the morning of closing. I will have to ask her about that. My mind wasn't too engaged last night when I was talking to her.

I called to get my DISH disconnected and was told I still have 16 months left on my contract and I would have to pay a $320 penalty for disconnecting! BS!! I remembered that Spectrum has a buy-out deal so I called them. I already had signed up with them for wifi, so I ended up adding TV and phone for a little more per month and they will pay the $320 to switch over.

I am very stressed about everything happening right now and kind of had a melt-down yesterday. :( Feeling a little better today. It just feels overwhelming at times with everything I have to do and phone calls to make, and papers to sign, and deadlines, etc. I just have to remind myself I only have one more week and I will be in the new house. Once I am there, there will be a lot more to do but I can take my time with no deadlines, etc.

I better get busy here... have a good day whatever you have planned. And also am thinking about those we have lost who made the ultimate sacrifice. :(

Hi Barbie.

I can well understand your stress levels. I am very good at doing the "melt-down" thing.

Here's hoping that both closings go smoothly, exactly as planned, without any roadblocks thrown in your way, and that you are in your new place before you know it.

Hang in there! :D

This Memorial Day is surprising cool, so far. I did go out to spray water on the alpacas as they love that. Also filled the horse water trough as they are out of the pasture and grazing down the grass around the house. Think I am going to look for some hotdogs, chips and a drink in the house. Then just sit on the front porch in rocking chair and watch the crazy folks driving on the road. Will have a nice conversation with the dogs, Bones, Bowie and Duchess. I expect one of the cats, Sassy, will join in, but she will talk to the Barn Swallows....in other words just another day house setting on the Alpaca Ranch. Hope you all have safe travels, keep dry and warm and have a load of fun!

I did have another post here but decided to move it over to General. Just In case you saw it, then you didn’t!

Nothing going on here today except refereeing the dogs! Emma so wants to play with Mitzi but she is just too big and used to playing rough with her "step-sisters"when she is at the trainers, here she is the majority of time. The cemetery here claims to have had the original Memorial Day Celebration. I'm not sure but it is a very old cemetery. According to Ancestry.com a few of my relatives are buried there. It is hot and windy here and a cool down would be welcome. Our lovely neighbor made DH a fresh strawberry pie with real whipped cream for his birthday!!! Best I've ever had!! The glaze has no jello it is all from scratch.
I'm so happy for Birdie,if Advent Village was in a cooler location I think I would join the neighborhood! I hope you are feeling better Barbie ! Hang in it is almost over!

Got quite a lot done today. Went thru everything in my bath and bedroom, reorganized and packed up everything. Just a few last minute things in there. The den is the next area that needs some sorting yet. And lots of paperwork from the house buying/selling, taxes, etc that I need to go thru, organize and put in my file box.

The guys showed back up to work under the house to replace all the rotten wood under there. They should finish it tomorrow and then all repairs will be done that I am responsible for.

I was going to rent an extended stay suite (with a full-sized fridge) in Indio for a couple nights until I can move into the new house because I wanted to take all my cold and frozen food until I get my new fridge cleaned and cooled down. Then I realized it will cost me an additional $200 to rent one of those rooms and decided it would be silly to spend the extra $200 just to take $25 worth of food with me. So I made reservations for Motel6, and what I don't eat in the next week, I will give to my roommate. They do have grocery stores out there!

Congrats Birdie!

slept in and then read on fb a bit way longer than I should have... got ready to leave for Salt Lake City to house site for youngest who is off to Ireland.... just as long as she doesn't bring back a tee shirt that says some thing about going to Ireland and this is all they brought back to me.
My dad was in WW11 as well as my uncle and my brother served in Vietnam have a granddaughter that is a marine and is deployed right now and her husband is also a marine..grandson serving in the army and is in South Korea. we have much to be grateful for as much as we can complain about the country we have that right because of the service of all those in the military... and it is still a good place to live.. and I am grateful to all those who provided us with these freedoms that we enjoy. We decorate our family graves and Sunday it started because my mom usually worked on Monday so Sunday was the day we could go and this year we went to the cemetery that my SIL is buried at.... I think it touched my brother that we took the time to run over there it's a couple of hours away...
will be here until Friday need to get home as my grandson will graduate that night...

Sheila and others, you reminded me that the holiday was originally called Decoration Day because people went out to decorate graves of people killed in wars. It was not officially changed to Memorial Day until 1971.

I remember it being Decoration Day when I was a child but depending on where you lived, it may also been called Memorial Day, but I remember my grandmother and older relatives calling it Decoration Day.
