Rainy Thursday morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rainy Thursday morning

Postby Colliemom » Thu May 23, 2019 6:45 am

Morning all. Weather seems to be the big topic of discussion these days. His front working it’s way across country is a doozy. Snow, tornadoes, rain etc.m seems like nothing g but tornado warnings on the Weather Channel for the past 3 days. Beth, hope the snow you have disappears fast. Holiday weekend coming up, people are going to want to go see “the heads”, Custer State Park etc. Rain showers moving through this morning and temps in low 60’s. Ironically, the U.P. Is in the mid 40’s. Getting ready to roll north this morning, but not rushing it. Need to finish loading up last Mi Ute things and food in fridge, then hitch up and off we go. Will stop for propane on way out. I always say the first trip of the season is the hardest one as takes more to get ready after trailer being in winter hiatus. Uncover, get dewinterized, cleaned inside, put back what was stored in basement for winter, take stock of what needs to be added for new season, plan and get stuff for meals, decide on wardrobe as usually have to pack for two seasons this time of year etc etc.... After this, will only need to load clothes for given trip and likewise food as everything else will be in there. Chilly, wet spring weather this year not helping either.

So best hit the shower and get moving here. Y’all have a nice day, weather or not :)

On this date last year I was just pulling into the Grizzly RV park in West Yellowstone, pulling my little Jayco. I almost didn't go last year, because rain was predicted - turned out that it rained (pretty heavily) every day for an hour or so, then the sun would come out and it would be beautiful.

"Just for fun" I checked the current forecast on https://weather.gov for West Yellowstone. Snow is predicted all this week; for sure I would not have been able to drive into the park if I was there on this date this year.

SO glad I went last year, except for the weather, I wish that I was on my way there again right now.

For those of you who have never visited Yellowstone (last year was my first-ever visit there) if you can schedule a visit early in the season, or late (to avoid the crowds) Yellowstone is a place that MUST NOT be missed.

[sigh]. I take back what I said earlier about Scotland being the most beautiful place I have ever visited. It's not. Yellowstone takes it, hands down.

Good morning Anne and all who follow.

Almost 2 years ago I was in West Yellowstone for 5 days with my tow vehicle in the shop. Spent 4 of those days walking around town. Finally got in the park on the 5th day but was only able to see the lower loop. Will have to get back there one day to see the rest of it. And the Tetons as well.

Got up early today and am waiting for the plumber to get here to check out some rusted out water pipes out front and give an estimate on replacing them. They are the main water pipes that supply the water from the park, so very important. This afternoon, the termite guy is coming to treat the termites under the porch steps.

Got the kitchen finished packing up last night. Need to do the laundry area, den and bedroom/bath today. Lots to do! Will have half the day tomorrow to finish up before going to pick up the UHaul trailer and start loading that.

Cloudy and cool again today. Sun usually peeks out by late afternoon.

I didn't fall asleep until after 2:30 am so I am very tired this morning. My mind was just racing with all the things that need to be done yet. I finally wrote them all down and fell asleep shortly afterward.

Sounds like my plumber is here...

It's still windy but not quite as bad as yesterday. They are suppose to open the Morganza spillway to keep Baton Rouge and New Orleans from flooding. That puts Carolyn Patin's home in danger of getting water from the Atchafalaya River. Last time they did that the spillway soaked up the water and it didn't flood. I wouldn't want to be in her place just waiting to see what will happen. The road past my house is flooded because of the water not being able to drain.

I have gotten up with a slight headache for the last 3 days and it hangs on most of the day. Don't know what's up with that but I'm tired of it.

I would love to go see Yellowstone if I could get that far from home sometime. Just to be nosey I checked the local state park and they are completely booked for the weekend. I think most of the parks are booked this weekend because of the holiday. I wouldn't even try to get out this weekend.

The sole is falling off my Nike leather walking shoes so I went to Shoe Station yesterday to look for some. They didn't have even one pair of them. I looked on line and one place wanted $160. I don't think so. The tops are still in good shape. I might have to use my white gorilla tape and fix them. I can just hear what my friend would say if I showed up with taped up shoes. lol

That darn yard could stand to be mowed again. I think I'll wait until late this afternoon. No sense in getting out there at noon.

Martha, look for Shoe Goo, a special glue to reattach soles of shoes.

All good here. Just plodding along. My handyman installed a new bridge yesterday to take place of Mel's jury rigged old plywood amd concrete piece where we drive lawn tractor and carts from garage/patio over to main part of yard over a city required drainage ditch. He really does nice work. Soon as suns out long enough, he will start replacing the other deck? I think today I'm going to work in my van some.

Anne, I have decided that most beautiful places have their own beauty and appreciate them for their uniqueness, that said I sort of apologized to Yellowstone that year when Nan and I made our visit in 2012. I will suggest that going to see Yellowstone on the way back from wandering around the state of Alaska for an entire summer is not fair to the vistas and beauty that is Yellowstone. And I still haven't made it to Scotland. Will work on it though.....There is a reason I do this season contract stuff!

Still working for another 2-3 weeks. The dogs are being polite about their complaints. They definitely like "retirement" and travel mode best!

This weather is crazy. We’ve been having on and off rain for the last couple weeks here in the San Francisco Bay Area. So unusual. And while it’s been raining here, I worry about the rest of you because what we get here moves east. What we’ve been getting is not heavy rain, but when little storms here move east and join weather from Canada and the Gulf, you get all the terrible conditions (tornadoes, floods, etc.) that have been plaguing the rest of the country. I sure hope we can move into summer soon. Stay safe everyone.
