Wet Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wet Friday

Postby Acadianmom » Fri May 10, 2019 11:09 am

It took me forever to go to sleep last night and then it started storming. My phone went off with a flash flood warning. I still have a headache from not enough sleep. I haven't been out to see how much it rained but it was probably 6 or 7 inches. The forecast is for 90% rain today and 100% tomorrow. There is street flooding all over.

Yesterday I went and ate at a Greek restaurant. It was probably more healthy than our food but I like gravy on my meat and rice. I had a combination plate with beef and chicken, yellow rice with peas and carrots in it, a feta salad and humus. The meat was shaved. There was some kind of white sauce that was either yogurt or sour cream and cucumbers. I don't like cucumbers and they don't like me.

My ex-daughter-in-law wanted to send me flowers for mothers day but I told her I would rather have one of the folding, rocking chairs for camping. She sent me 2 so my sister will have one too. One of the ladies at the campout had one and it was comfortable. I had sat in one when Dick's Sporting Goods first opened and didn't like it but these are a different style.

There is rain just off shore so I probably need to go feed the outside cats before I get wet.

Good morning Martha, and all who follow! Sunny here mostly and a good rain for May here is a few tenths of an inch. I often am in wonder how diverse our countries weather is.
Those rockers sound nice, I know we have that store here, I'll have to go look.
The Greek sauce was likely Tzatziki, and yes made with yogurt, cucumber, and dill or sometimes peppermint. I've made it and like it. Even though I no longer eat rice, that meal sounds good. We had a Greek place here for a year or two but which never really caught on. When we ate there it seemed like their shaved meat was like a ground meat that had been seasoned and cooked as a block then shaved, it had a weird texture though tasted ok. Only ate there once before it left because it was good but not good enough to draw us back.
I have Curves today then my to do list on which I hope some gets to done! :D
Slowly all the little stuff is getting done in the van. Wednesday my handyman put the cotter pin in the sofa which I couldn't quite figure out and now the sofa works. Yay. I cleaned seams in shower and need to go over a second time with alcohol before caulking seams. Also need to get adhesive remover and see if that takes the goo off where cupboard bumpers deteriorated and became sticky gooey mess, so I can put on the new ones I bought. I think that's most of my list so I can commence deep cleaning and see how the portable part of my new rug shampooer works on carpets in cab and rear, glad rest is vinyl flooring. Oh and Sean (handyman) fixed the fantastic fan, which turns out it was simply plastic deteriorated on a connection so it wasn't making contact. I got connector from my shop and soon as he crimped on the new and clipped together and turned switch on, it works! So glad it was that simple ! I've been filling a couple of bins with items which I want in van and today my EMS arrives so that will be added. Mel never thought we needed one, but I thought that was taking a chance. If I upgrade my solar next month, I'll use EMS less as I hope to boondock more but during warm weather it will be nice to plug in for AC at night. I'm switching my towels out reducing number and replacing with some real nice microfiber I found on Amazon. I have been testing the two large bath size I bought and they dry even indoors with less air circulation in just about 3 hours which is way less than standard heavy towels just hanging on my hook. So less weight and shorter dry time on trip will work for me. And they are a beautiful shade of purple as I'm going with purple and blue colors in decorating, as much decorating as one can do in a overall 22 ft RV van!
I'm investigating a new camera. I will be upgrading my iPhone in next few weeks and also hoped to get my nice Nikon going but unfortunately the old batteries won't charge and I've been unable to find a new set. I loved that camera! It's a proprietary shaped lithium battery so I can't just put any other one in , sadly. And the new Nikon on market is front heavy in my hands. I think new iPhone is 12 megapixel so I want a decent camera which is higher than that to take those special shots but not sure I want to go with having to buy lenses and the bridge cameras fill that gap in the camera world. I'd hoped to stick to Nikon but not after holding the new one with its unbalanced feel, though it is on sale at a great price. Any thoughts from you photo buffs ?
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning gals. Went thru more stuff this morning and now I can actually walk across the sunroom without tripping on stuff! Have two full boxes of stuff in my car for thrift store. Am washing more clothes from my closet. Just waiting to switch loads and then head out to pick up my vacuum cleaner and clock. The termite guy will be here at 1:00 so I need to be back before then. Then will fog my bedroom, closet and bath.

Martha, where did your DIL get those rocking chairs?

Another cloudy day but no rain so far. Just May Gray, as they call it here. Next month is June Gloom! Then hot and sunny after that.

Have a good day!

I thought the beef had a weird texture too and a little dry. My son and I had eaten at a Greek restaurant years ago and they put a bowl on the table with the olives. They didn't look like the olives I was use to. My son wanted to know what they were and I told him that the Greeks cook with grape leaves and maybe they were grapes. He doesn't like olives and still thinks I tricked him into eating one. lol

The name of the chair is Roadtrip Rocker. It folds up like those bag chairs but when it's open it has arms. I can't get out of those bag chairs with no arms. They were ordered from Dick's Sporting Goods but I think Amazon has them too.

I am no photo buff and have all kinds of problems with my camera. Mainly don't know how to use it. I have a Nikon Coolpix. I don't know what I did but if I try to take a picture it tells me the card is write protected. I'm sure I pushed the wrong button and don't know how to change it.

Martha, there is a little 'slide' on the side of your memory card. It probably just got put in the 'lock' position.

Velda, look at the Canon SX60 or SX50 or SX70 HS series. That is the camera that Liz takes such great pics with. That camera got great reviews from Diana, Mtngal, as well as Liz. I love it as it zooms way out and has clear sharp pics. It started with the SX40 and then went up to the latest at 70. I have used the 40, 50 and 60. All are easy, light weight and goes from Macro to 65X optical zoom which picks mountain goats off mountain ranges that is unreal. Send Liz msg and she can share with you. Or look back here on the forum where cameras were discussed. Good luck.

I am really excited about your upcoming travels. I hope the crazy weather calms down for you.

Rainy like crazy here in SE TX. Seems like more coming tonight and on and on. Big hail in Houston last night...up to softball size at some parts of town. Mucho water which means more flooding for those poor folks. Cold here north of Houston at about 65*. That’s as weird as snow in O’Malley’s part of the world. Beth probably has the heater running. Surprise Sue didn’t get snow again! Judy if you like blueberries, Bandon has some great tasting ones. They have great crabs too! Martha if it was Greek place it was probably lamb

Safe travels and have fun.

I would like to get a digital SLR camera at some point and then take classes on how to use it. Will see if I have any money left over after further negotiations on my house!

Had the roof inspected today but don't know the outcome of that (but I can guess  ). We are getting 3 roofers to inspect and write a bid. Also had the termite guy come out. Unfortunately, there is some wood rot under the house and he also found some termites by the stairs on the porch. Will have to get that all taken care of. It was the same inspector that I had do it when I was buying this place so these things are new issues since then.

Picked up my clock but it isn't working right so will have to bring it back and get it fixed right.

Did more laundry and then flea fogged my master closet, bath and bedroom. Am airing it out now so hopefully it will be fine when I am ready to go to bed.

I forgot to go to the bathroom before I fogged in there, so I ended up going to Walmart to use their bathroom and then of course, went shopping too. Hit Hobby Lobby on the way home to get decorating ideas. I am thinking of sewing my own window valances instead of buying them since there are a lot of windows in the house and that will run into a lot of money to buy enough for all of them. Found some pretty material. Also, I used to make golf stroke counters with pony beads on a string and sell them to the women on my golf league. Am thinking I could sell them at the new place in the golf shop there. I still have some beads and can customize the colors to what ever someone wants (if they want to match their golf bag, golf cart, or their outfit). Hobby Lobby has a large selection of beads and string.

Back to laundry and then dinner...

I was going to say that the shaved meat you had was probably a mix of beef and lamb, which is why it tasted different to you. And shaved beef and lamb is called "gyro." Wish I had some right now on a soft pita with tomato onion and sauce!! That will be one of the first things I get when I get back to Michigan! Olga's Kitchen makes sandwiches with thicker, soft pita bread, which they make all day and serve hot. Yum.

Middle Eastern food has some of the characteristics of Greek food because they share a lot of the same culture, so Detroit has a lot of both.

Haha Birdie. My heart is on now, but was a nice day. I even took the afternoon off and Linda, her granddaughter and I went to Custer State Park. We saw several baby bison. So cute. 4 of them were playing together. I love that park. There's a lady working at Mt Rushmore I've talked to a few times through a workamping group and I've offered, if we can work out scheduled to give her a park tour. She needs to drive, I'll provide the park pass, and tour.

I'm exhausted. I didn't sleep well last night so think I'll head to bed early tonight and sleep in tomorrow. Then I'll drive into Rapid to do some shopping. I ordered a new mattress for the rv. It's at the store. If it's not raining tomorrow I also get my old one out and new in. I'm so looking forward to the new mattress.

As to cameras, I have the Canon. I've never liked it as well as either of my two previous cameras so I tend to "forget" to bring it... Today was included in forgetting it. Thankfully my phone does ok as long as I don't need to zoom in much. I've gotten so lazy that when I do take the camera it can be months before I take my pics off it. Yep, that lazy.

Martha, I have a rocking chair but often can't use it because of the sites I'm in. I hope you get good use from yours!

as much as I would like a rocking chair think it would be hard in the desert and then in the gravel here... but sure sounds nice... cleaned out my cupboard that had the broken glass in it and stuff put away, bird feeders out and already have birds, saw a hummer even wasted too much time with games and or coloring... it's an app on the phone so quicker than a coloring page and I even stay in lines  of course it's there choice of color... some I don't like but it is fun I just need to limit myself and spend more time on this afghan so I can get it done this summer was hoping to have it done for my niece in time for memorial day weekend but that isn't going to happen...
My sister in law showed me how to use Marco Polo yesterday might be fun... my gd's go to Alaska for the summer their dad and his wife and son moved there last winter. think if they think of it would be a fun way of seeing Alaska through their eyes
That is too bad Barbie termites and fleas too bad the same stuff won't work for both!!!
