Have you ever had a roller bag handle get stuck?

I have had more than one suitcase end up with a stuck handle. In fact, on one business trip about 12 years ago, I had one get stuck and the airline would not let me check it. I was panicky because I had to catch that particular place and be somewhere, so I told them to just cut the handles off, which they did so I could check it.

Well, on Tuesday, in Las Vegas Airport, I had the same thing happen, except the handle was stuck only halfway down. I just could not get it to retract into the suitcase. I fiddled with it near the ticket check-in, and one of the ladies at the desk said to bring it over, that she had the trick. And it worked!!

Here is what you do: First, you have to lay your suitcase flat and open it. Then you notice which side is sticking--it is usually only one side. You will have to move your clothes to one side so you can reach into the suitcase and feel for the handle underneath the suitcase lining. Sometimes there is a zipper you can open, but we could not get mine to unzip. So the lady showed me how to feel through the thin lining material and find the little button or ball spring along the handle inside the suitcase. (Mine was up near the top of the suitcase, near where the handle slides in.) All you have to do is push it with your fingers while pushing the handle in and "Voila!" the handle slides in where it belongs!!

I was really impressed and the lady said, "I didn't spend 30 years as a single mother for nothing!!" Loved it!!

That's good to know, Judy! I've never had that problem before but will pass this information on to those with the roller bag handles. I borrowed Brenda's roller bag a couple weeks ago and will definitely pass this on to her. Thank you!

A triumph! Those retracting handles can be really tricky. And what fun to learn it from such a cheerful person!
