Biotin

Postby MandysMom » Fri Mar 22, 2019 2:56 am

I ordered the 5000 mcg (microgram) capsules first off Amazon using Prime. I like the company Sports Research for certain supplements as price reasonable. When it arrived it had a coupon good for another product. I used the code at their site using the address on the coupon. They sent me free a bottle of the 10000 mcg Biotin so that gave me enough for several months. They always include that coupon and when you go to the page to fulfill it, you choose from one of several products to try. It's a full size bottle that arrives. I probably will lower my dose after these two bottles and continue now that someone mentioned it's good for your nails. the capsules are quite tiny about 1/4 in long oval.

Thanks for posting this info, Velda. I might try it, although the current rate of my hair loss seems about normal.

As I have gotten older, I have found that I have to be very cautious when taking any kind of "supplements". I tried taking Omega 3 a while back, and by about four hours later I began to have severe pain in the lower abdomen. Couldn't believe the Omega 3 was causing this (had never had this kind of discomfort in the past) so tried again a few days later. Same thing happened, only worse the second time. So the Omega 3 went into the trash.

I have been taking glucosomine/chondroitin for several years, which seemed to help with my (mild) arthritis. Over the years I had noticed that my heart would skip a beat or two, now and again. The way I could tell is because I have tinnitus, and the "sound" of the tinnitus "pulses" with my heartbeat. Mostly I ignore the tinnitus, because it is annoying. However, if I pay attention to the tinnitus, I can actually "hear" my heartbeat! :o So I can "hear" if my heart is not going along as it should (when I hear my heartbeat "pause", which it will do for many alternate beats) I take my pulse, and this "skipping" is definitely there.

Lately, I had been upping my glucosomine "dosage" to the "recommended dose" (previously I had always taken far less than the recommended dose).

Also, lately, I had been noticing this random skipped heart beat thing to be increasing.

Finally, I put two and two together (I can be slow about such things!), did a couple of Google searches, and found that glucosomine is known to cause "heart palpations" (skipped heartbeat) in some people.

Have now stopped with the glucosomine, but wondering what to do for my arthritis instead.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Adding turmeric to my daily meals can help with joints. It can be taken in capsules or made into tea or beverage with something like almond milk or used in food. Do some searches on turmeric. Tart dark cherry juice can also help joints. I don't use it now because of the carbs, but a shot glass of montmorency Cherry juice (read labels and get pure cherry, no added sugar) can help. Cutting carbohydrates reduces inflammation as well. Also my palpitations went away when my Dr suggested I supplement with small dose magnesium daily. Just research magnesium as some types are gut unfriendly (think milk of magnesia effect)! Lots of little things done each day can help. I used to take glucosamine/chrondroitin daily for my knee, but a change in shoes helped more. Now I wear only my Brooke Areil shoes, rotating several pairs. I know getting stronger with Curves3times a week has helped that too.

I was looking at the list of things in the Prenatal vitamins and they contain Biotin. Maybe why they were recommended for hair growth. I happened to think of the Biotin when I was at Target so got a bottle. I'll see if that has any affect.
