Happy First Day of Spring

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Happy First Day of Spring

Postby Colliemom » Wed Mar 20, 2019 10:19 am

Late morning here in the east, actually pushing toward lunch time pretty soon. Today is the official start of spring, although it doesn't occur till 5:58 this afternoon, so actually, tomorrow is really the first full day. But we aren't going to let the technicality get in the way, right  It's cloudy here with some rain showers possible for later.

Tina, congrats to you and Josef. You, Josef and the bling all looked beautiful and that proud smile on your face said it all. Anne, congratulations on getting your book printed and on Amazon too. Here's hoping for a successful run. Barbie, have fun exploring today. Sounds really pretty out there right now. Hope you get some great pics. Speaking of pics, this is the one I had enlarged, for now anyway. Have another one I am considering too.

Nothing much on agenda here today. Just finished cleaning house, so that chore is done for awhile. Stopped at RV dealer to see about getting a couple of overhead cabinet doors ordered for my trailer. Can be done, just need to give them the VIN number so we can make sure the right color is ordered. See that Forest River had a devastating fire the other day. Destroyed their Plant 59 in Elkhart. They manufactured the Vibe travel trailer there. Judy hope you get the AC fixed. My vent fan in my bathroom isn't working, but there is a little fuse In there and I have a feeling that's the culprit. I rarely use the thing.

So, am going to go fix a bite to eat and then get busy doing some more on my scrapbook. Y'all have a great day.

Nice cool day here with some clouds. Normally, would prefer sun and a bit warmer, but considering that I have to do without AC for the next few days, cool is welcome.

I feel very relaxed today. I made a few updates to my newly opened class for next semester and the online system went down. This means I cannot make any more changes or grade any papers! Yea! Sort of like having a snow day.

Plus the campground is very quiet today except for birds. We had some noisy campers over the weekend and Monday and they are gone. Why is there always one big family that does not notice they are the only loud talkers, screamers, and shriekers in the campground? Also only ones playing music loudly. Weekdays are so much nicer.

Sue, I love the picture! Just awesome!

Judy, there is a campground in MD that we frequent during the week only to avoid the noise. Must be something having to do with getting old, but that's why we try not to be in campgrounds on weekends.

For big weekends, I try to find campgrounds WITHOUT lakes, big rivers with boat launches, beaches, swimming pools, playgrounds, and "activities."

Worst campgrounds included one in Georgia on the coast where the camp host decided a 9:00 p.m. (after dark) scavenger hunt for teens would be a great idea!! Another one was in Ohio, where another misguided state park activities director decided that a "Find Bigfoot" weekend would be a good idea. This included not only tromping through the woods, but also a Bigfoot calling contest. There were a couple of trailers fill of teen girls who "practiced" calling (or shrieking only as teen girls can do) for Bigfoot all day and late into the night.

One of my favorite and also well-scored on RV Park Reviews is Midway Campground along the Tamiami Trail in Florida. It is 50 miles from groceries and 25 miles from gas. Electric hookups and a pond in the middle filled with alligators, so no swimming and too small for boating. No playground and absolutely nothing to do! So it gets solid 10s from most older people. It is part of Big Cypress National Preserve right next to the Everglades, so very quiet. Two miles from a visitor center, 15 miles to Shark Valley Loop where you can ride a tram or your bike into the Everglades and see birds and alligators, and half a mile to an Clyde Butcher's art gallery, believe it or not. https://clydebutcher.com/visit-big-cypress-gallery/

Nothing else around FOR MILES!! Never saw a big family or kids staying there. And $15 per night for us seniors with a federal pass. Paved sites, grass between sites, palm trees, and a water fill and dump station. https://www.nps.gov/bicy/planyourvisit/ ... ground.htm

We had a nice sunny day but it only got up to 69. I thought it was kind of cool. I got my tax papers turned in so now I can camp without that hanging over my head. There were 2 papers they wanted that I didn't bring so had to make 2 trips to town.

The campground we just camped at is run by the forest service. They have 3 loops and the first time we stayed there we were in the second loop. Everyone thought it was noisy but I don't remember that. A lot of things don't faze me. This weekend we were in the first loop and it was very quiet. I had only made reservations for Friday and Saturday and decided to go on Thursday. I had to spend the first night in another site. This campground has the 14 day rule but instead of making people get out of the campground they just let them move sites. A stupid rule if you ask me. I had to wait on Friday for the people in my site to pack up and move to another site and they weren't in any hurry. I was afraid if I left some one would be waiting on me but the office wouldn't look and see when my site was booked for. I finally went to lunch with friends and just hoped someone wasn't waiting on me. Those people never showed up until Saturday so I was worried for nothing.

Got up early for the bus tour to see the wildflowers. I thought we were going to Anza Borrego but we just stayed around the Coachella Valley. Made 4 stops to see different flowers. They were so pretty and so many different kinds! I got a ton of photos! Just went thru them all and almost all are really good! Only deleted a few. Will post those in the next few days.
It was cloudy and breezy this morning but later the sun came out and got pretty warm. We stopped at a park for lunch (we brought our own and they provided drinks and snacks). Just when we got back from the tour, the wind picked up really strong and was blowing sand and dirt all across the valley. One road north of Palm Springs was closed due to blowing sand near a wash. That road closes a lot for that reason. Some other roads are still closed that washed out from the Valentine's Day super storm.

I stopped at a mall and bought a couple maps and a book from B&N bookstore. Then headed back to the motel. Will head out early tomorrow toward home. Supposed to rain towards the coast so will run into that along the way.

Sue, your photo is very pretty! I have had some of mine enlarged on canvas and hanging on my walls.

When I camp, I don't mind the sound of boats (I grew up on a big lake so am used to that and love the sound of boats) but I have little patience for screaming kids and loud music. I like to listen to the sounds of nature when I am camping. I don't watch TV and rarely listen to music. When I was on the road from MN to CA, I never watched TV for the whole 6 weeks even when I was stuck in the trailer a lot while my Jeep was in the shop. Didn't miss it at all.

Time for bed...good night!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Judy, Brendac drove us through the Midway Campground on the Tamiami Trail late this past year and I can see why it would get such good reviews. Perhaps we'll try to get a spot there the next time we're in that area.
