repair or replace

you all know that my generator is broken... the repair guy took the part to get a new one a long time ago...when I talked with him a week or more ago he asked what size it is told him didn't know other than it wouldn't run the A/C he said he would call back when he found the part to let me know what it would cost... still haven't heard back from him so either I am the forgotten sole or he hasn't located the part.
my husband had had a platform welded on the back of the 5th wheel for the generator to reside. works out great doesn't have to get moved for transportation secure from theft at least so far... my satellite dish even travels on it so it's out of my way...
I did look on line for costs of new generators.... they are much cheaper than this one was
but I hesitate to buy a new one like where would I put it so it travels well and I don't have to move it about and it's secure... one I looked at could use either gas or propane... what is the advantage of the choice?

What you need to look for is a pure sine wave generator. It works best for electronics. The construction generators work ok for power tools but are hard on electronics and very loud. Honda has become the bench standard for many campers as its quiet and reliable. Units like the eu2000i (around $1000 on Walmart site) can even be hooked together to make a larger unit if desired in time of larger load. Generators run best under full load. Can you mount it where the old generator is mounted?

Hope that helps.

Honda has recently had some major problems. I might not consider then at the moment.

Sheila, couldn't you have any generator you purchase put on the rack made by your husband?

as to rather I can put a generator on it would depend upon it's size not amps but literal size as the platform is two bars so would have to be the right width... right now a $1000 is out of reach... so would have to choose more based on cost and size.. guess I need to give the rv guy a call time is running out and if it's not fixable well it's not and will have to deal with it sometime. I miss tv and when the clouds are out really miss it. so guess I will figure out what I need to do.

Maybe this will give you ideas of generators to consider.

Beth, that is one of the best explanations about the portable generators.

Sheila, while pure sine wave is best in dealing with electronics, we cannot all afford the price ticket that comes with it. I had the option to go pure sine wave for my inverter, but the difference in the price made me say I don’t think so. My old one was regular so I replaced it with a like one. Remember that maintenance is critical on these puppies. It is definitely a pay me now or pay me more later. Good luck on your decision making.

we bought the generator when we bought the 5th wheel... then when we went full time it got used in the winter was usually plugged in in the summer so can't kick about it..... it's been well used
Beth looks like some good information... did a quick look at it... will need to do a more in depth look later

http://www.trailerlife.com/rv-gear/gear ... r-players/ This article was in Trailer Life Magazine. They also had an excellent article on Energizer eZV P series generators in the January 2019 issue, but unfortunately I can't find a link to that article anyplace.

talked to the RV guy and he can't find the part which doesn't surprise me as it's old and a wanna be Honda but not a Honda ....so now I will have to look more fully at the links Beth and Sue sent...I am just not comprehending stuff tonight  so another day, Terry is going to come out Monday do some odd's and ends and talk generator... I need an electric start so that limits some of what I can look at... he will at that time look at the oven see why it won't lite... will hope for a cheap fix
thanks for all your thought's
