Sunshine Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sunshine Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Mar 09, 2019 8:26 am

Good Morning on this beautiful sunny morning. The calm before the next storm coming tonight into tomorrow. Mixed bag of precipitation. Spring is working it’s way in slow but sure. Temps are heading into 40’s this coming week. Roller coaster season I call it. Warm, cold, rain, snow etc.

This weather makes me want to get out, shake of the confines of last month’s storms and snow. So on a nice mild day, will start doing some riding around the area up here as the snow recedes. The fur kids will enjoy exploring the bare ground when we stop at some of the State Parks up here for a walk. Most areas lose snow before we do here as they don’t get as much, although this winter is excepting in some places. I plan to finish my spring cleaning in these next couple days while the weather is lousy. Want to be done with house stuff. Got stuff to take to Salvation Army store too.

Martha, you wore me out reading about all the places you went to the other day. Course I did same yesterday afternoon. Spent 5 hours running to stores, bank, gas station etc. and then to church for fish fry. Thinking about going to visit a friend today if they are going to be home. Storm isn’t going to be here till tonight anyway. Be nice to just get out on the open road for bit as thry live 30 miles from here. Have a great day all.

Morning all! Don't forget to "spring ahead" with your clocks tonight in most of the country.

After a couple quite windy days it's nice to lay here in bed and not feel or hear any wind. Yesterday was really bad! Today, I think Ty will be happy we can get back into a couple long walks again.

Mornin' Sue, Beth and all that follow~~~

Still in Rockport, TX until tomorrow. It's was a good week, spent with Birdie. Found some birds and gators. I'll never remember everything she taught me, but some day things will sink into the old noggin.

A few more days in Texas (with the hope my new drivers license is in the mail), then off to visit Martha for a few days. After that, heading north towards IL. Won't be home for Ma's bday, but will probably be around for Easter. Task at home this year is cataract surgery for Dad. He & his eye doctor put if off for as long as possible because is his blind in his other eye since childhood, so they waited until the cataract is as bad as they can get. Fingers crossed.

Temps here in Texas have finally warmed up (and gotten humid which was expected). At least the furnace or space heater haven't been used this week. A 'cold' front is moving in tomorrow with highs expected in the low 70s. @ 'cold'

That's it from me. Have a good day ladies. Stay safe where ever you are.

I have been busy knocking things off my to do list. Among many others things, I now have two clean dogs and my taxes and laundry are completed. Still need to complete paper work for the license renewal for all three vehicles and my driver's license. I drive up to pick up Josef tomorrow and Lark will get her bestie "wrestle" buddy back. The two cats will not be as pleased. Wanda likes her Larky girl but Josef is too intense and quick and unpredictable for her liking. She will adjust by removing herself to higher places. Gus will remain in the basement as he does now until people and dogs are in bed.

Leaving next Thursday for Louisville. The entry is large which means that I can relax and just practice. With 10 specials entered (8 males), Josef will be lucky to come out with a Best Owner Handler. Numbers that high usually mean that not only are there multiple professional handlers but also a small group of Owner Handlers in the ring. I will revert to my mantra that success means that I get out of the ring without falling down.

The wind is crazy this morning. I'm glad I'm not in North Louisiana because they have tornado warnings. Hope they don't have a repeat of what happened in Alabama.

Tina, years ago we had a cat that never came out if anything was going on or there were strangers. I had named him Boo. He started out as a barn cat and I don't remember how he got to be a house cat. I had the neighbor coming to feed for us and she never saw Boo for a week and thought he had gotten out. Annie is kind of like that. Few visitors ever see her unless they spend the night. It's funny to watch kittens go from not being afraid of things to becoming aware and scaredy cats.

Cheryl, glad you had a good week with Birdie. She will keep you busy. 70 degree cold fronts are what we have in Louisiana. I think it is going to be in the upper 70's all next week. Hopefully not much rain.

Sheila, I saw on Facebook that Alice sole Kerry her trailer. Didn't Alice name her Ruth? Did Alice retire?

I hope I get the time right tonight. I'm suppose to have brunch with the meetup group that I ate Indian food with.

My right heel is hurting. I hope I don't have another year of that pain. Back to wearing shoes in the house.

Martha, we rescues two cold kittens from the back shed years ago. The Sam walked into the trap within 20 minutes. He was the one that would stand on the outside of the fenced are in front of the barking English Cocker and complain with is body language that the food bowl was empty out in the shed. His brother Gus held out without his brother for 18 hours before the tun got him. I kept them in two large wire dog kennels with connecting doors for the two days it took to get their appointments with the vet for neutering and shots. Then they stayed in their extra large "town house" for a few days to heal up. Within days Sam was not only tamed but he had suckered my daughter (home doing her student teaching) that he was her cat. By that time Gus had imprinted on our older Yellow Tiger cat. It was like he was a Mini Me. He idolized Ed all the rest of his life. But of course by then it didn't seem fair to release him to the wilds of the back shed by himself. Too many coyotes, etc.....

So over 15 years later he is still here. He got terribly depressed after we lost his Eddie cat a couple of years ago. It took getting another cat and about a month for Wanda to teach him to occasionally show his face. She will now stand at the top of the basement steps and call for him to come up. I think she worries about him.... :-)

He is over 15 years old now. I am praying that Wanda will let us know where he is hiding when he does get sick..... Other than an ear infection about a year after he came inside he has never been sick or revaccinated. It would take a tranquilizer dart.

He has always seen me as "that" human that trapped me in the cage, "grabbed" me and hauled me off to strange places, (I would have to wear gloves). No amount of special treats or baked ham ever convinced him that I was not the enemy. (I think of early negative imprinting in action)

But he has his Wanda now.....

Last two days in Napa have been sunny, and I have been the warmest I have been in four months! It is still in 50s here but only 40s at night and still warmer than Oregon. Took down my plastic sheeting and loving the occasional sun. Rain this morning and tomorrow, but I can handle that since high Monday is supposed to be 70 and sunny! I will use the time to clean out a couple of outside storage areas that desperately need cleaning and straightening.

I might even try installing my new shower controls. I will post photo of the mess I have. Basically, the guys who built this rig put wood screws into handles instead of machine screws. I have tried to replace screws and handles but nothing fits, so I bought the whole new control piece. Also need to install my new tire pressure monitor, but so swamped for time because of grading papers that I have just not had time. At least I did get a truck wash before coming here. On Wednesday, I will head for Las Vegas to my reservations at Willow Beach Marina for 10 days.

The Napa EXPO campground is one of the nicest around and has incredibly large, paved campsites. Wish it were not so expensive, however, but it is worth it to visit kids.

Not morning coffee, more like happy hour. FYI, the smoke detectors in this apartment alarm when you sear meat without turning on the hood fan. Luckily it doesn’t last too long if you turn off the stove and wave a towel. The fire department didn’t come but don’t know if any other tenants evacuated the building. Dinner was good. Think I will have more than one glass of wine tonight and plan on a lot of chocolate.

Tina, the things we do for our pets. Poor Gus, at least he has Wanda to worry about him. Mr P, the cat I picked up at the New Orleans campground considers me his enemy since I have had to bring him to the vet several times for abscesses from fighting. I haven't heard him in a fight lately. I hope he learned his lesson. Who ever he was fighting with the last time really chewed up his neck. This afternoon when I went to walk Hank two of the kittens my sister gifted me with started following us down the road. I had to turn around and bring them back to the house. I put them in the car since that was handy. They better not pee in my car.

Martha yes that is Ruth that Kerry bought... and Alice is retired now in a van... one of those commercial (cargo) is probably a better word that has been converted into a unit... not for me but guess there are those who will enjoy it.
was getting stuff done getting ready to pack when I got a text from my sister that she was in the hospital with infection again. Sure wish they wouldn't take her off antibiotics either so soon or put her on a low one for a very long time... for the past two years she has been in the hospital many times with infections that take forever to clear... I sometimes think they never really go away just linger till that can attack again... she said it was up to me if I wanted to come up... but since the sole purpose of going up was to take her to drs. appointments told I wouldn't be coming up she was disappointed but I think if I go up later will be better. with my generator going to cost a lot more than I anticipated I really can't afford to go up anyway.. But was going to.. that and I get to annoyed with the nephew so it's better if I don't at this time.. took a friend to Parker for chinese food and a quick Wal Mart stop... didn't go and get the bk and syrup but hopefully next year.

My cough is better today. I stopped after work last night and picked up some cough syrup with an expectorant in it and it seems to be working good. But working makes me very tired out. Came home after work today and took a 3 hour nap.

I have been feeling a lot better mentally for the past month or so now and more motivated to get up and do stuff which is great. Now I just have to get back to feeling better physically.

Sunny for most of the day. They keep changing the forecast so now I have no idea what is gonna happen or when. They are expecting another foot of snow back in MN where I was living. They sure are having an awful winter there!

My older brother David, called me the other day. He and his wife are in Phoenix visiting her son there. From there they will dive to LA to visit his son, the one who is getting married this month. He did get my message about not making it to the wedding and said he would miss me. Once they get back home, they are putting their house up for sale and moving to Phoenix.

Judy, glad you are finally in a warmer place now. You can finally thaw out some!

My cats both run and hide when someone comes over. Lola will come out after a few minutes tho.

Time to get ready for bed now. Back to work first thing in the morning and I lose an hour overnight! :o
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

All these cat stories remind me of about 40 years ago, when my brother was first married. He and his new wife had a tiny kitten and asked my parents to cat-sit for a week. My mother especially was NOT a pet person of any sort, but they agreed and got the kitten set up in their house. Except on the second day, the kitten disappeared. They left dry food out for a week, but assumed it had somehow gotten out of a door when they came in or out.

Anyway, they were really worried about what they would tell my brother and his wife about losing the kitten.

Anyway, after a week, they discovered it had been hiding in a drawer the whole time. My dad had built a really fancy huge closet in my bedroom, which was now my parents bedroom. The closet had huge sliding glass doors and a row of shelves on one side and drawers on the other. It was maybe 10' wide and ceiling height. My dad was a carpenter and woodworker, so he had made the drawers with cutouts for you to grab so there were no drawer pulls for the glass doors to hit. The tiny kitten was just big enough to crawl into the drawer and set up a place to hide in one of them. It showed itself just before my brother and his wife came home, to the relief of my parents! If it had been a full-size cat, it never would have been able to hide so well.

Judy, my full size cats can hide in the house and I can look all over for them and not find them. And when I say full size, I mean about 15 pounds or over.

Judy, my full grown cats hide all the time to nap. In my big house, it's almost impossible to find them unless I call them and they decide to get up and show themselves. Cats of all ages are good at hiding.
