Snowed-in Monday!!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Snowed-in Monday!!

Postby JudyJB » Mon Feb 25, 2019 8:21 am

Power went out about an hour ago and two inches of snow On ground—and this in Eugene, Oregon. Lucky to be in RV with batteries and generator! No TV as satellite dish is covered with snow. Even Portland is declaring a snow day.

Still in my warm bed and planning on staying here!

Good Morning Judy and all. Snowed in here too, literally. The Blizzard started in around noon, we were hit with wind gusts as high as 54 here, some places up to 63. Sow created whiteout conditions and by late evening roads were getting impassable. County declared a State of Emergency, no travel unless absolutely necessary. I-75 closed due to accidents and whiteouts and drifting as are many county roads. Heard they were just leaving vehicles on the roadway and being ferried by snowmobile to shelter. They are still suggesting staying off roads this morning too. There are numerous power outages in the area and a lot all over the State. My power was blinking on and off over 5 hours, but stayed on. Was driving me crazy. But it was a bit scary listening to that wind howling outside last night. I will be going out later to dig myself out to the garage and crank up the snowblower. Dogs aren’t happy either. Also cancelling two appts. For this morning. Glad you have your generator and are snug and warm. I’m considering booking itonone forvthe house. With the way the climate is changing, this may becoming the new norm.

If I lived where you do, Sue, I would certainly get a really big generator!! Hope you keep power. I read in newspaper last night about your storm and closing Big Mac. Stay warm.

There is a funny pull through site next to me they never rent because it Is almost on road. Big 5th pulled in while ago. I am guessing they were on highway. Covered with snow.

It is only 34 now but supposed to be high of 37 so maybe the snow on my satellite dish will melt. I was supposed to go to PT but not taking rig out and even Uber seems to be shut down as I don’t see any cars on their map.

Good morning all. Goodness, Sue, I’m complaining about the wind but at least we aren’t getting the snow and ice this time. You are really getting hit. We’ve had the wind since yesterday afternoon and it’s still blowing like crazy. It was kinda scary for me last night too. It really sounded like it was going to blow out my windows in my bedroom! I’m going to have quite a pile of twigs and small branches when I clean up the driveway. It’s a mess. Judy, sounds like you might be better off just staying home today too!
I went to the little RV show in Altoona with friends yesterday. Luckily we got home before all the wind started! They are looking at 5ers. They aren’t in a hurry for it but she knows what they want. It was fun watching her mind working as we did the tours. I see them getting one and doing a cross country trip some day.
Just watching the news and the weatherman saying the winds will be calming down a bit. I can live with that! So not much else happening here. Today’s a good day to stay inside and clean house so guess I should get to it. Stay safe wherever you are today and think spring!!

Judy, a friend of mine is staying in the same park as you, and he had a big tree fall on his 5th wheel. His neighbor also had one fall on theirs and they had holes in their roof so they went to a hotel. So far my friend doesnt have any holes poking thru but that is a BIG tree. He posted a video on FB and he has about 9 inches.

Yes, I have been out taking photos, and I updated my blog. In fact, big branches are still falling! Nothing much anyone can do because there is at least 12" of snow on the ground. (Note the photos of my patio table and chair for snow depth.) Some people on the outer edge where the trees are have pulled their rigs forward a little, but there is so much snow it is really difficult. Check out my blog here: https://grandmajjb.blogspot.com/2019/02 ... ne-or.html

Lots of damage. I'd say about 20-25% of RVs here have at least some damage and quite a few have holes in their roofs. like your friend. And to make matters worse, the park road is blocked with large branches and I suspect the main highway is not in very good condition. And, it is continuing to snow very heavily, so I suspect will will end up with another few inches.

As you will see from my photos, I am in the center area and mostly away from trees. There is one medium-sized one behind me, but I think it is OK. The edge of the RV park is full of huge, very old trees with branches that are 6-8" in diameter. They have never had this amount of snow on them, so they keep breaking with very loud cracks.

Power was out at 4:30 am and then went back on briefly, but if off again now. Luckily, I have good batteries and a full tank of propane. I can also go out and plug into my generator if I need to.

Good morning, nothing but rain that finally got here we are safe this time from all the snow. North of me a few hours really got hammered with snow which is VERY unusual, but I will take it.

Need to keep moving this morning as I had a lazy weekend and my back is not happy from all that sitting. Wont be walking the dog today LOL but will sweep and steam mop my tile floors. And of course a couple loads of laundry.

Lyn the dates for the Stillwater Pow Wow in October are October 4 - 6 Here is a link to it

So far I havent made too many reservations except for the coast as it is always hard to get in over there especially in August. Made them for Florence this time instead of Bandon, just for some variety.

For those traveling anywhere in the west, this is the best map I have found. Tells me anything I want to know about road travel complete with warning, accidents, downed trees, and cameras.

Wow Judy! That is insane! I would hate to be sitting in my RV just waiting for something to fall on it! And nothing any of you can do but wait it out and hope it melts soon! The ones with holes in the roofs will have a lot of water coming in once the snow starts melting. What a mess! Glad you are in a good spot tho!

And Sue, you are getting walluped too, but at least you are used to that there and prepared for it.

Here, sunny and not even a whisper of a breeze.

We were short one stylist yesterday so I got called in early and it was insanely busy all day long. I worked 7 1/2 hours non-stop and did 18 haircuts. I would have done more but I had about 6 women clients who had really long thick hair who wanted shampoos, layers and blow drys so those took much longer each. We were all wiped out by the end of the day! I think a lot of people came out of "hibernation" after the cold wet week we had here last week. Even the haircut sale was a bust because of the weather.

My arms are really sore yet from spraying the weeds in the yard. Carrying that heavy bottle around was really hard on my elbows and shoulders. Next time I might put the bottle in the wagon and pull it around.

Need to head to WM for a few things and then head back to work later. Have tomorrow off. I think I will clean up the porch. It has been neglected all winter and looks sad.

Have a good day and be safe, warm and dry!!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

What are you spraying on those weeds, Barbie? I sure have a lot of weeds here at my place, with more coming.

It started to rain here about an hour ago, really pelting down hard at the moment. Prediction is for major incoming "atmospheric river", lasting for several more days, with many inches of rain.

Sue, probably heading in your direction next! Watch out!

The Feather River near me - I'm about 1/2 mile away from the river, behind a levee - is starting to come up fast ("Watch" level, about 60 feet).
Feather River flow:
https://www.weatherforyou.com/reports/index.php?config=&place=sacramento&state=ca&forecast=riversobs&gauge=YUBC1

The water level behind Oroville dam is rising too, likely to take a big jump over the next few days, as much of this rain is predicted to fall in the Feather River/Oroville dam watershed.

Oroville lake level (they might open the floodgates at 815 feet, which will really make the Feather River get crazy, and will make the river rise even faster if the gates open. Oroville dam drains into the Feather River).

I'm not packing. Yet. But definitely keeping my eyes open, and keeping track of current conditions.

Yikes... I'll take the cold we've had, with the bit of pretty snow over what is going so many other places. I'm glad your rv seems to be in a safer part of the park, Judy.

I feel guilty saying that our cold spell is pretty much over. Still have some cold overnights but days are already wonderful.

I'm back at Whitewater Draw... I feel bad that the cranes were all hunkered down last week in the cold and wind when I came here with Tina. Today they are flying, landing, honking and there are thousands of them. And several other birds. The owl is still on her nest but harder to see because the wind isn't moving her ears. Her mate, I'm presuming, is perched at the other end of the building. I took lots of pictures here but all are still on my camera. I've not been good at taking them off to share anymore.

I was actually going to go further today, but I'm not getting answers about places I thought about stopping, so no reason to move until morning.
