Sunny Monday

Morning, all! Slept in very late again. I was up very late and then had a couple of phone calls early this morning from Michigan students who do not know or do not consider that i am on Pacific time. I don't mind their calls, but it does interrupt my sleep. Also got a call about scheduling a cat scan this week, so that did not help, so went back to sleep for a late morning nap.

I am really getting hooked on Trader Joe's frozen pastries. You put them out in a pan the night before and they rise and are ready to pop in the oven by morning. Yesterday was chocolate croissant and today's in almond croissant. Yum. Anyway, today there are hardly any clouds, so it can officially be called sunny. Very unusual weather for this winter!

And I finally am able financially to order the tire pressure monitor system I have been looking at. They have been getting cheaper and with my record of blowouts, I really need it. However, since I am leaving here next week, I will get it shipped to my son's house in Napa.

It's not sunny here, another gray day, and it's 20 degrees colder than yesterday. The front came through yesterday when I was walking Hank and the wind picked up and the temperature started dropping. It makes me nervous to be on our road when it's windy. There are a lot of dead trees in the fence rows and one usually comes down when it is very windy. Three of us have tractors so someone usually moves it before the parish shows up.

We don't have Trader Joe's. Probably a good thing. I don't need any more temptations.

Judy, which pressure monitor system did you order. The one I have is 9 years old. They don't make that one anymore and the sensors that are suppose to work with it don't work very well. I want the peace of mind going down the road that nothing is going on with the tires.

I slept in this morning, expecting clouds and cold. But it was sunny. So even though the temps were lower it was beautiful. I even had my door open for awhile. Well, the real cold front is finally moving in, with winds. I'm really glad Ty and I got a good walk this morning! The one just now was quite short. I did some website work.. A couple more months and no more! Right now I'm mainly making sure to have a smooth turnover. And hoping for no major work on them before then.

Yesterday was a great day with Tina and Ginger.

I took advice from my mechanically-inclined cousin who bought one a few months ago, after having a front tire blowout with his 44-foot Class A! Instead of running off the interstate, he hit the big truck next to him along the side, and the big truck hit the median ditch. Whole side of his motorhome was messed up. Repairs were $20,000 but paid for by insurance. They even got a week in a hotel from the insurance company. He and his wife have been full-timing for 15+ years, and this was his first blowout. Caused him to order tire pressure monitor right away. And, even though they have an enormous rig, they do a lot of dry-camping and was at the Q show in January, but I missed being there.

I have been putting off buying one of these for years, so it is way past due, but I have had so many repair expenses this year, I just could not spend the money. Since I am not traveling now, I have saved several hundred dollars in gas money, so now is the time for me to buy.

I keep putting off ordering a new monitor and fighting with the one I have. I have 2 more good sensors and then I am going to order a new monitor. Over the years, tire problems have been the most problems I have had. I had 6 of the Firestone tires that had so many problems back in about 1990. I had blowouts and tread peeling off. I haven't heard of any complaints about Firestone tires recently but you couldn't give me a Firestone tire.

I bought the TST 507 last year with the color monitor. I had the TireMinder rated #2 for a couple of years but I hated it. Prior to that I had the Pressure Pro and I loved it but technology goes by the wayside so fast. I still have the Tire Minder but will just keep it as a spare. I have always had a TPMS as I am a big ole coward when it comes to tires. This also makes it super easy to check the air before I take off somewhere.

I did make a reservation at the coast for August as it is our hottest month and I just might need a break so made a reservation for a week. I am working on making more reservations LOL but nothing else decided yet.

I bought the color one because I thought it would be easier to see. Of course, if I finally had my cataract surgery, maybe I could see the monochrome one! Actually, I have an appointment at the ophthalmologist on Wednesday afternoon, after my physical therapy session. I have been going back and forth about having it done here or in Ohio, but decided it would be easier here. I have to come back every month for stuff anyway, so will just schedule it when I am here. And even when I am not here, I am not going to be very far away.

My left eye is the worst one, but they tell me it is a very easy surgery these days, and I can even drive the next day! I think I will plan an extra day off, in any case. He is not scheduling for at least three months, anyway.

I really have gotten behind on routine medical tests the last couple of years. I was supposed to have a mammogram 9 months ago, but have just got it scheduled for next Thursday as I leave this town. And, I was supposed to have an annual checkup at Christmas with my Ohio GP, but ended up cancelling when I cancelled my plans to fly out to see my son and grandkids. I have not seen the kids since last June, but have bought tickets to fly out to see them in mid-April, so I got an appointment with that doctor then so I can get my meds refilled. I was also supposed to have had a colonoscopy last summer, but am putting that off--just no time. I'll be back in Ohio in mid-October through mid-November so will try to schedule it for then. So maybe by next winter, I will be caught up with everything.

Serendipity keeps notifying me of a tire sensor failure - guess a sensor quit, or got knocked off, or whatever, probably when a tech worked on a tire or something. Drives me crazy, but my mechanical son can't figure out what to do about it. Gives Sere personality.

I just had my left eye cataract surgery last week. Right was done a few years ago. Don't put off forever, Judy. With all the paperwork and computer time you have to do it might be nice to have good vision again. I went from 3.25 readers to 2.0 and really don't even need those! You have to have a driver with you, though. They told me they wouldn't do the surgery unless I had a driver with me - and they made him sign in and leave his cell phone number! Perhaps that might help you decide where to have it done.

My set is arriving on Friday. I will probably wait until I get to Napa because the EXPO where I stay has very wide and very long paved spots. Also, it is likely to be NOT RAINING, which I am really looking forward to! I am going to do a lot of cleaning and sorting of underneath storage bins while I am there. They really get to looking like junk drawers after a while!

Seriously, you apparently just take the old cap off, clean and check the valve stem, and screw on the new one and then adjust the display. Some of them have locking caps, which means you need a special tool that comes with the set so they cannot be so easily stolen. I think the front tires will be easy and the outside duallies will be easy, but the inside ones will be tough. I don't think my son will be able to help because he has had back problems. He missed more than a week of teaching a couple of weeks ago. I might end up taking my RV to a nearby tire dealer where I have bought tires in the past and have them check pressure and install the rear ones.

There are a couple of online videos on installing these, and it looks pretty easy. One of them had an old kind that had the display directly on the little things you screw onto the valve stems, but the other one had a display like the one I bought has.

Sandi, they are easy to install. They all work just a little bit different (I know I am on my third). You can program them easily. Just follow the instructions. You dont have to reprogram them each time you use them. I take mine off in the winter when my RV is mainly in storage but I will put mine on pretty soon here, as I will be going to the dog show the end of March. I have only been to one dog show ever and I did enjoy it. I will be volunteering there on Thursday just in the hospitality area as I know pretty much nothing in the ring so made sure I wasnt in that area LOL. I am going to stay a week as there is plenty to do around Albany, Salem, Eugene, etc.

Some you program the sensor first, before you screw it on, and others you program it when you put it on. Easy peasy. I have had one since I bought my rig in 2007. I love that I can just turn it on and scroll thru each tire to see what my pressure is. It wont help in an immediate blowout but it will if the blowout is cause by a low tire. It alarms when the pressure drops a certain percent. Most blowouts are cause by low air in tires so far so good for me.
