Crappy weather Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Crappy weather Saturday

Postby OregonLuvr » Sat Feb 16, 2019 12:35 pm

Good morning from rainy snowy Oregon. Been trying to help Malia's daughter get out of town with the Motorhome. She had some relatives fly in yesterday BUT they managed to miss their early flight (overslept sheesh) and didnt get a flight here until midnight. So today the passes are snowing and slippery. I wouldn't leave in this weather. Suppose to start improving by tomorrow and good on Monday so I dont know. She is thinking about storing it here and coming back later. She wont be driving it because she knows nothing about RV's. She is also trying to find one of Malias friends that might be willing to help drive it to Texas for her. I feel badly for her as she had everything in place and these fools put a kink in it. They could have easily made it over the passes and into Redding yesterday. Oh well all I can do is offer support but she doesnt need this right now. OK done with that vent.

Snowy Saturday morning

Postby Redetotry » Sat Feb 16, 2019 12:41 pm

Well it is still morning here. We have about 4 inches of snow but thankfully the ice missed us. I have a Daffodil bud on my kitchen table about to open. The snow and cold doesn't seem to bother them. I had a strange banking experience this week and have no idea how a large mistake could go all the way through and not be caught! I deposited a check for $5000.00 from a money market account to my checking account at the ATM. It read the check as $250.00 and deposited that amount to my account. I called the bank and they just added another deposit of $4,750.00 to my account. So today I looked at my money market account and they only took $250.00 from the account!! Do they encode the amount of the check somewhere at the time of deposit and it goes through all systems at that amount instead of the face amount!? I worked several years in banks long ago but I have no idea how it is done today. Guess I'll give it a few days and call the bank or the place that I wrote the check on if they don't correct it. Last time I pointed out an error this bank made in my favor they laughed at me and commented to the other tellers while I was standing there, hey she wants to give us money back. I just walked out with a smile on my face and a few thousand extra dollars in my account.

The sun is out here this morning! Yay! :) Then more rain tomorrow... :(

Off to work shortly. Today is the first day of our haircut sale. Goes thru next Friday. It has been very slow this past week so will be good to be busy again.

Lyn, can you PM me your phone number?

Have a great day, rain or shine! :D

Mix of sun and clouds here. Weather device shows over 5 inches rain so far in February. A good start for our season. Local NBC affiliate station says it will be cold enough that we might see our first few flakes of snow early Sunday for first time in over a decade. You have to be quick to see it because it melts as it hits.
Sorry Malias family is having a hard time with arrangements she so carefully planned. I forget what RV she had.
I think I hear my handyman so gotta go. Have a good day all.

I am really looking forward to heading south, but those passes in Southern Oregon and Northern California really make me worried. I am going to drive them mid-day when it is warmest, but still worried. I did leave two nights and three days to drive what usually takes two days and one night. But stil . . . .

I think they would be better leaving Malia's RV there for a couple of months and then get someone to drive it to Texas once it gets warmer. Texas is a long drive and the weather even in Southern CA is lousy and likely to continue to be so.

Judy I have convinced her daughter to store it at the RV park it is at for $30 a month. She is thinking until April whew. The son of the lady who is buying it (the mother in law of her granddaughter) and his wife came out to drive it back. Never driven a Class A before, had a travel trailer once....yikes. So now they are flying to Vegas LOL LOL they just got married so calling this their honeymoon. I am going to keep the car here at my place so think we have it figured out. Will go over and help Angelique get it moved over to storage and put some antifreeze in the traps. I dont think anything else needs to be done now. Will be a couple days yet as she has some other stuff to take care of and hopefully get the death certificate on Monday. Malia's friend and her boyfriend are trying to plan to drive it to Texas in April. Perfect as she has a Class A rv and has camped a lot with Malia.

Judy these passes can be a bitch. The Siskiyou pass is bad enough but Mt Shasta City, Weed, and Dunsmuir are even worse weather. Most of the time tho the drive is easy. You just cant go over if there is an active storm system here. Usually only lasts a few days and then we warm up enough and enough traffic has made the drive just wet pavement.

Velda she has an Winnebago Adventurer Class A. 2012. Has it sold to her granddaughters mother in law. So that was all in place but getting it there is a bit of a problem this time of year.

Karen, what if I took an alternate route, like the coast? Is that better? And if I did, where would I cut over to the coast to hit 101. At least I am assuming 101 is a better route, right? I remember it being a good road, with many parts being four-lane divided highway. Is that right???

I have a full three days to drive, so I do have time to do a longer route.

Judy

You can cut over in Eugene to Florence on hwy 126 then go down the coast on 101 to 20. Kind of slow going that way but way better than the alternative if there is snow. Then you can cut over on Hwy 20 (goes around Clear Lake) it comes out in Williams, north of Woodland. Curvy in spots but totally doable, I have done it a few times in my Motorhome towing my car and no worries.

You can check with me as the time gets near, the passes could be just fine. We always have weird February weather. I can keep you updated. I found the best website for checking the cameras all over

oss.weathershare.org

Edited to add there are many spots of 4 lane highway so you remember right. I would only go that way if the passes are iffy. I watch the weather much more around Mt Shasta.

Looking at the map, I would probably take 101 all the way to Geyserville and then take 128 right down the Napa Valley. The whole route adds only 66 miles to my total drive, which is usually only 500 miles long.

The only problem with taking 101 is that it bypasses the Blue Beacon near Corning on I-5, and I really, really need a truck wash! Guess I could park on the street in front of my son's house, and we could wash it, but he is having back problems, so might have to pay the kids! They are 11 and 13, and my grandson is already adult-sized, so they are definite potential car washers.

Or, I could cut over to I-5 on 36 at Redding, except it looks a little curvy. That adds 128 miles to my trip. It is a nice, coastal drive, or at least would be in better weather.

Anyway, thanks for the options.

ABSOLUTELY NO ON 36 FROM THE COAST. Not advised at all. I did that ONCE in a car.....never again.

There is a truck wash in Medford where I get my MH washed. Not sure if they are open now but should be. It is out Crater Lake Hwy towards White City. Not automated . Here I am getting a wash job

Judy, there is a truck wash at the Coburg exit (exit 199) just north of Eugene. Karen and I used it once on our way south. They did a good job and I don't remember it being very expensive. It's at the Truck Stop on the west side of the freeway. Big building in the back (I think it is red). They are only open during the week.

Might be more convenient if you need to take the coast route.
