Just Horsin' Around

So if you aren't interested in horses feel free to skip this one. There were two different horse shows at the Fairgrounds. Hunter/Jumper Show and National Team Penning Competitions. Horses bred and trained for two very different sports and jobs. But beautiful bodies in both cases.

I used to ride both Dressage and Hunter/Jumper when I was young. I loved jumping and was quite good at it! That horse in your photos is going over a very high and wide jump! I never was that brave or talented! It is sure fun and exciting to watch tho! Amazing athletes, both rider and horse!

Great photos! I loved going to horse shows in my farming community as I grew up. Barrel racing was my favorite.

Loved this post Tina. Really interesting. I used to jump my horse even though she wasn’t especially built for it. She did very well though and I always rode bareback even when jumping. I also enjoyed the explanation of the cutting. Hadn’t seen that in competition before.

Enjoy Sedona. One of my favorite places and spectacular!

To share more. (And I am scheduled for a horseback ride in Dead Horse Ranch State Park.) I never owned a horse but I did get to ride. First at my grandfather's cottage and farm in Illinois and later at the riding stables east of Cincinnati. Early on I began hanging around at the riding stables as an all around barn peon and later as an instructor for students and guide for public rides. I learned my initial life long teaching skills first working with children and adults on horses. We taught basic park seat. From there if someone wanted to progress to jumping they could handle it. If you could ride on an English saddle the shift to riding western was also doable. We organized horse shows each spring for our students and instructors. Some individuals went on to get their own horses. Some of us went on to be teachers and administrators.

As one friend mentioned to me later in life after helping her daughter get ready for a 4-H dog show. (They had extensive experience showing their horses, mules and donkeys.) Dog shows were easier to pack for than horse shows......

Good grief, Tina, that is just amazing! We've gone to a couple races here in Ocala where they were jumping, but this is just incredible! Thank you for sharing this with us!

Harold and I never did team penning unless you count what we did at home. I still get emails for horse sales and makes me want a horse but know I don't have any business with a horse. I don't think I would bounce very well if I fell off.

Watching the teams in competition made me think of the real life teaming that exists out in the world when the work needs to be done....:-)
