Heading South on I-5 from Eugene, OR, to Napa

With a little luck, I should be able to head south along I-5 to Napa, CA, on February 28, driving my motorhome. I am a little concerned with going over the passes north and south of Medford during the winter because of the potential of ice and snow. I've driven that area several times but not in bad weather.

Karen and others living in southern Oregon, which is the worst part of this area? I know that there are a lot of cameras along I-5 and I've been looking at them, but I am wondering which is the area that I should be looking at most. And if the weather is good, should I NOT stop in Medford and just barrel on farther south until I get to Redding????

I will stop or turn around if I encounter snow or ice, and obviously chains on my vehicle are out of the question because I don't think they would do any good and I don't want to go somewhere if I have to put chains on.

Plans are to leave Eugene about 11:00 am so it will have warmed up slightly from overnight, especially if the sun comes out. That would get me to Medford by about 2:00 pm. Does that sound like the best plan???

I can keep you posted on the pass south of Medford as your time comes near. The passes north of Medford are really never a problem for me as long as you will be going thru later in the morning or early afternoon. If there is a big storm then Sexton often gets some snow so just keep an eye on the weather. To be honest the worst weather I usually encounter going south is in the Dunsmuir/Mt Shasta City area. I never travel if there is a big storm brewing. You can check the cameras in CA for Weed Mt Shasta, etc But when you get to Medford you can reevaluate. February is our worst month for snow and storms but they come and go. Last year minimal storms. This year who knows.

when I get ready to travel I daily hit the weather site whichever one you use and plan from there
one time I was late leaving from North was in UT and had a couple of issues there delaying me more ready to go and looked at the weather down in St George it had a 90% chance of snow did I journey on nope!!! and it did snow and snow lots so I always check major areas along my route for me elevation has lots to do with it and winds... snow more likely in certain areas than others ect so guess be flexible, you know Jello plans???
