Groundhog Day!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Groundhog Day!

Postby Colliemom » Sat Feb 02, 2019 7:56 am

BREAKING NEWS! No shadow for Phil this year, which means an early spring, :D  The some 30,000 folks who are out at Gobblers Knob are having a blast in the 4 degree weather. And I guess the fun continues the rest of the day. It has been fun watching on TV. I have fond memories of seeing Gobblers Knob and Phil with O’Sharon a couple years ago. It’s just a fun, crazy mid winter thing for folks to do. Friends and and I used to go out for lunch to celebrate Groundhog Day.

O’Sharon, I just pass along whatever gets passed my way as far as weather is concerned. You know the old Pay It Forward thing   Actually I think it goes back to the gals out west. They get these crazy storms off the Pacific and just send them on, the ones in the Midwest don’t want em either, so dump em on me and on it goes......

Nice to hear from so many yesterday. Snowdrops blooming for you B.J. :) Well, then maybe Phil is right. Tina, hope the RV is an easy fix, no fun when they don’t start and you sure don’t want to be stranded out away from help. Beth, my audiologist mentioned an implant to me too. There are pros and cons to those cochlear implants. At my age I’m playing the wait and see game. Will be interested in hearing what you wind up doing.

Off to finish an email here and then outside to kind of “tidy” up a bit so to speak. Plow came through yesterday and broke the snowbanks back to widen the road a bit more, so have a pile of snow chunks etc., in drive to blow out. Also kind of go around with the shovel and touch up a few places. Rain is heading this way late tonight for next couple days and some freezing rain with it. Have a nice day everyone.

Well. Sue. Us Pacific Coast gals wouldn't do a thing like that. . . now, would we?

On the other hand, we always "Pay it forward". We are generous, and like to share. That's just the way we are. 8-)

This from the Weather Channel this morning:
https://weather.com/forecast/national/news/2019-02-01-california-storm-flood-threat-sierra-snow-forecast

"The strongest Pacific storm of the season will lash California through Saturday with high winds, feet of Sierra snow, and heavy rain that could trigger flash flooding, debris flows and rockslides.

Part of a fundamental pattern change over the U.S., a sharpening southward plunge of the jet stream over the eastern Pacific Ocean will quickly deepen an area of low pressure off the Northern California coast and plow a strong cold front into the state Saturday."

These things always head east, after they get done with us. Always. Look for this sweet baby in your backyard maybe late next week.

Oh. . . and hold on to your socks. It might be a dinger. :o

Yes, Anne, it looks like that cold snap will come into Arizona maybe Tuesday. But not a terrible one. So thank you for taking the brunt of it. :) I'm going out for lunch with Eileen and Dave today. Maybe I'll go to a laundromat after. Maybe lol And there you have my excitement for the day.

I have a friend from college who's birthday is today. Her's is one of the few birthdays I can remember. My sister's birthday is the 25th. She can have King Cake for her birthday this year because Mardi Gras isn't until March. The King Cake I put in the freezer is lasting a long time. I just hope I don't break a knife trying to cut it. lol

I have been wondering which way the storm hitting California is going to go. I think the last 2 days of bad wind here was from the last California storm. It looks like this storm is even worse. I hope the wind doesn't hit next Sunday because I will be coming home from Houston. It feels like our early spring is here. It's suppose to be 75 a couple of days next week. I don't want to celebrate too soon because our coldest days are usually in February.

I got a ride to town yesterday to pick up the truck that was in the shop. It had 2 recalls and the check engine light was on. They said that the reason the check engine light was on was because the gas cap had a leak. $10 for a new gas cap and $133 for them to find the leak. I think Harold had a key taped inside the gas door. I need to check and see if it's still there.

Good morning girls. Here in No. Central CA it really stormed all during the night especially around 4:00 AM - it was coming down in buckets. The sun is shining right now but that won't last long. It's rather cool also.

FYI On Implants.....Two years ago I had a "reader" on my team that had recently had an implant. He was in his early 70's and had experienced a severe change in his hearing after years of just some hearing loss. He was very happy with the improvement and with the ability to improve and maintain his communication ability with the hearing world. He was able to participate in the training parts of our scoring projects with very little accommodations. I had only seen videos of CI being introduced with children. He was the first adult and I worked with him for two weeks and he could talk about it with me.

Just a few sprinkles here so far but supposed to get heavy rain and wind later on. The creek is nice and quiet for now. :D Had some ducks down there earlier this morning.

Need to get motivated here and do some cleaning, dish washing, and laundry today. Nothing much else going on here...

Have a good day! :D

Went to sleep hearing rain and woke to rain. My rain gauge shows 0.94 since yesterday afternoon. Chilly day but rain is welcome. Hope we wring another inch out of the storm.
I need to go out in a bit to see if our sealing of the van worked. Keeping fingers crossed. Lots of thigs I want to do but keeping water out is primary.
Heading back to Costco to pick up an item I failed to grab yesterday. They have these folding wagons I looked at but wanted to see if anyone I know has one. Hear they are handy so going back before they disappear. Then my handyman is coming to help check why van battery down again then plan time line for the other repairs the house needs.
Have a good day everyone. Stay warm and dry.

  As is Anne, our forecaster have their eye on that “sweet baby” that you are talking about, but right now they aren’t sure where it’s going. The computer models aren’t in line

Tina, I told my audiologist that the first time she says I'm eligible for the implant, even if only the one ear, I'm going for it. My hearing loss originally was considered bad.. Enough that my doctor said I could get some disability benefits. I never took them... Except the pass for the National Parks. I've been told I should have. Oh well. But now, I'll take whatever they offer. And there is no rhyme or reason why my hearing the last two years has sustained a major loss both years after holding its own with the original bad loss for close to 30 years. Just is I guess.

Good afternoon. Had a really nice day to drive up to Roseburg (about 2hrs) to meet Laura for lunch. We both brought our dogs and they remembered each other. Had a good lunch (salmon yummmm) and lots of good conversation. We had not met for many months, Laura had a lot going on in her life but it is settling down now. Started raining a bit in Roseburg just before we left. I ran into dry skies but a little fog on the passes. Patches of blue sky and no rain as I came down into the Rogue Valley, I love living in southern Oregon our weather is so much better than further north.

Big storm system supposed to come in this evening and then another one behind it that is supposed to dump some snow here (we will see). It will be cold tho, getting down to 18° here with snow. High will be 38°. BUT Anne it will be 15° in K Falls ha ha

Now just relaxing for the rest of the day as I stopped and got my favorite Blended Hazelnut Mocha at my favorite espresso stand. My high calorie birthday present LOL
