In The Deep Freeze Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

In The Deep Freeze Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Jan 30, 2019 8:49 am

Good Morning from the frozen 45th. I need not say it’s bone chilling cold up here as many other places are experiencing the same. As I write this, it’s -27 on the wind chill scale and down to as much as -37 in some places in the U.P. The state is under a state of emergency, some gov’t and state offices are closed as are county buildings, courts, transit authorities, and other businesses. Some due to a combination of heavy blowing snow and cold as lake effect is pummeling some areas. We have been and will be under a Winter Storm Warning here since Monday, until noon tomorrow, but lake effect has been light where I am here so far. The postal service said it is not delivering mail today to keep it’s employees safe. Schools have not been in session all week so far. When winter decides to quit being a wimp, it gets downright nasty sometimes ;) And by Sunday it’s supposed to be 40 degrees

So, today will definitely be an indoor day and I will continue on my two room swapping session. Moving my guest bedroom to the front and my office room to the back bedrooms. Have the furniture moved, but need to move and rehang the wall hangings etc... Also want to order some new quilts for my room and guest room, plus new curtains. And debate a bit more on repainting or leave em. Good projects for cold weather.

Velda, did your DiCor hold up on the van or hadn’t it rained yet? Barb, did you get to the beach? Sarah, glad you made it safely to Fl, time to relax and enjoy. Looking forward to seeing pics from the Hardee Lakes GTG which starts Friday. This is a day I should be making the next set or camping reservations, but with new electrical upgrades and site renovations be made at the park this spring, reservations are on hold till the reservation system gets the new map, site numbers and other information into it’s system. So we wait. But next week Friday another booking for a different park will get done. It’s part of a two and a half week stay at 3 different parks in the U.P. as a friend and I explorecthe areas.

Time to get this posted and me to get busy. Have a nice day all. Stay warm where it’s cold, safe travels if on the road or enjoy your day whatever you do.

They really missed the low here last night. It only got down to 36 instead of freezing. That's fine with me. We should be back to the 70's this weekend and of corse, rain. My mower is back home and should be ready for the mowing to begin.

I'm waiting for my neighbor to call so I can bring the truck to the shop. The vet called and I can pick up Mr P at 4:00. I think I'm going to start shutting him up at night and see if that will cut out some of the fighting.

Sue, I hope your house is well insulated and that you are staying warm. Brrrr. Good day for online shopping.

Last night was a cold night, down to 31, and this park does not have its water spigots insulated, so I have to leave it at a drip. Problem is, how much is drip? I don't want to leave it running, but it is hard to figure out how much is enough. I am using my tank only, filling it with my hose and then draining my hose. I have heat in underneath in my sort-of closed utility compartment, but there are big gaps where my sewage hose goes through, so I have an old towel wrapped around it to fill in any extra space and keep the heat in. Going to be 31 again tonight and then back up to high 30s at night rest of week until after the weekend.

And there is a big difference inside between 40 degree nights and 30 degree nights--lots more drafts on the floor from under slides and around cab area. I put a big curtain to block off cab and even an old rug to block the area where air was coming in behind my driver's seat.

Now that I have had my 6:15 am pill with a meal, I am going back to bed until I have to go out for another blood test at noon!! This is last week I will have this nutty schedule, so can sleep in later in future weeks. Going to check out my PT places today while I am out.

Has anyone put an electric mattress pad on top of memory foam? Might help me stay warm.

Now that they've finally gotten around to plowing my road, I'm a lot more cheerful! It's kind of fun watching all the fuss about this weather. Being stuck on a road somewhere would be really dangerous, but I've always enjoyed staying home when the snow and winds hit hard. Good time to bake bread or make cawl cennin. :D

Good morning gals!

Yes, it is bitterly cold up north! They cancelled mail service in 5 states today! In MN some areas cancelled trash pickup as well and the schools are closed for the third day, as well as many businesses. With -60 below windchills, that is a good idea! Frostbite can occur in a matter of seconds in those temps!

I did make it to the beach yesterday! Drove down to La Jolla. It was very foggy with the marine layer but was pleasant and not too crowded. I was walking on some rocks to check out the tide pools and slipped on a wet mossy rock and fell butt-first into a tide pool! Wasn't so easy to get myself out of it! I was very wet and fishy smelling for awhile after that!

Took some cool pics, had lunch and headed home via the scenic route ( PCH/101). I stopped for cheap gas (supposed to go way up today or tomorrow here!) in Oceanside, and I was pulling out of the lot, I saw some people on the sidewalk looking up and pointing. I looked up and saw two wild parrots on a power wire! I stopped and took a couple of pics. I have heard of the wild parrots out here but have never seen any until yesterday. Very cool!

We have our water shut off here at the park for 8 hours for repairs today. I had planned to do laundry, but that is off the list for today and on tomorrows list. I work this afternoon/evening and have tomorrow off.

Hope those of you in the Midwest and out east stay warm and cozy! Sounds like it will be a big warm up by the weekend for you tho! We are getting rain here tomorrow and then again Saturday thru Monday.

Beth, ZiCam works really well for me for colds. Knocks it out in a day or so. I think Emergen-C also has zinc so should help too. Hope you feel better. Lyn, glad you made it back home safe and sound.
Judy, I used to have a heated mattress cover and loved it, but I didn't have a memory foam mattress then. I would think it would work well tho.

Have a good day! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I know the Emergen-c is really a daily vitamin mix... But I know I need most of what's in it, so going to try to add it to my regimen. I also changed up an inhaler for my asthma. Between that and the alka seltzer cold, I see a big difference. My sinuses are better than for a long time... So this inhaler may be part of the solution. I actually slept last night!

Ty and I took a long walk. Went over to check out my "favorite site" here and discovered a camphost has it now. No wonder it was never available. I actually found a couple others to try for next time... Might become my new favorites lol. I don't think there's a bad site here, but we all have reasons for liking certain things. I seem to have lots of birds where I am now.. So this is a good site, too.

Tomorrow I hope the cold continues to get better because I really, really want to enjoy my lunch at Portillo's!

I've done the cold happening in the Midwest before. So glad I'm not there for it now!

Still semi sunny and only 10% chance of rain today and tomorrow but 100% friday, so that's when DICOR will either work or not. I finally found the solar packet from when we had our panel installed on the van in 09 and was disappointed to see its only a 130 watt panel instead of the 180 I thought. So will get the new batteries and in June will plan on a visit to AM Solar who installed it. Unbelievably some of the same techs are still there and have been so helpful and nice on the phone. As I talked to them yesterday they said I was making the right decision to go with another pair of Lifeline AGM batteries vs spending more than triple to have lithium installed. The saving of 50 lbs when I'll be alone vs two of us just isn't worth the money for part time Rv'ing. I appreciated the techs honesty since they sell both AGM and Lithium he could just as easily been trying to up sell me. He also said this panel should be fine as they last up to 25 years and it's only 10 and they will work to find a compatible panel as a second one to take it from 130 w up to match the 200 amp capacity of my battery bank. No wonder it was slow to keep up. The usual recommend is about same watts in as amperage capacity.
Sue and others in the brutal cold stay safe. I have been worried daily for my son and family because I know they cant always avoid going out. Granddaughter who is 8 says "water is frozen everywhere" when I asked her about the weather! She is recently being allowed to go on kids messenger when her Mom or my son are available to supervise and it's so much fun to chat.
Have a good day all, I'm heading shortly to Curves. I spent morning thus far on phone trying to talk to CPAP company about failing hoses. Finally got a guy who admitted they had a quality issue leading to the failures I was seeing and said its been fixed and he will send me new one. Wouldn't you think they would have let me know they knew there was an issue since I complained before only to be told it must be my fault? At least hopefully the issue is solved. He said the manufacturer tried to skimp on hose material making it thinner. It kept popping leaks where hose attaches to rubber piece that attaches to machine on one end and mask at the other. It's more than annoying to keep waking with ain't blowback in your eye every couple of weeks!

Annnnd we are done moving!! Getting all settled in our new smaller apartment, and we love it, so warm and cozy.

Good thing we love it cuz we’re not going ANYWHERE today, woke up to -18 with a -46 windchill, being retired is awesome... we have no place we have to be.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying warm.

Beth, I meant to tell you that last year I discovered that McDowell has a non-hookup overflow lot you can stay in for $20 a night. There were quite a few people there, and it looked like a good option for last-minute.

I have a RV friend who has been helping me with the van and her wife was just pushed into disability retirement last Friday so I'm seeing them as they work to adjust to the new reality too. I had not worked outside the home in years when Mel was told in 2007 hey you can disable retire you Have vested so rather quickly I had him under foot. Of course, these days I'd really rather lke having him under foot again.... But we did have adjusting then fun for a few good years. really hope eventually I can shed myself of 43 years of accumulated stuff and downsize. I'm working daily towards that between all the phone calls and paperwork!

My mom said it was weird having my dad “underfoot” when he retired five years after she did, but she was the same as you, once they adjusted they had a lot of fun until he passed away.

My honey and I have such similar interests it’s been pretty easy so far. We are loving just having time!

Also, Velda, I was absent from the forum when Mel passed, just wanted to say how sorry I was to hear of your loss. I hope you’re finding your feet now.

Good afternoon, wow how time flies. I got a few things done this morning. It is Mexican train game day so couldn't get into anything big. I went to the store yesterday and bought some meat, pork, chicken, hamburger. Wanted to piece it out and freeze with my Food Saver this morning so got that done. Weighed it out before I packaged it as I am back on my diet for the most part. Doing low carb now instead of keto, gives me a few more choices. I have ice cream smiling at me every time I open the freezer, so far I am just smiling back LOL Tonight will be salmon and roasted veggies, yum. I have a love affair with roasted veggies hah

Sun is shining and we didnt have the fog roll in this morning but it was a nippy 28° for a while, it has warmed up to 42° but in the sun it is really nice. Will take Emma for a walk this afternoon as I need to continue my exercise plan while the weather cooperates walking is it.
