Good Morning! How is everybody this morning. Some of us have been up for awhile and others just getting up depending on your time zone.

It’s a cold morning here in northern MI. -6 with a windchill of -19 here where I am. Sun is shining brightly though. Windchill advisory in effect for about 20 more minutes. But house is warm sob I don’t care. May venture out for a Sunday paper or may not. Venturing down to the basement sounds more appealing. Have one more thing to do, installing some drawers back under the table, then nothing left but to paint table and floor. Need floor paint though.

Barbie, those were beautiful pictures you took. You should enlarge one and frame it for your walls. Enjoying hearing about the Q adventures. You gals are having and going to have a great time.

So, I am going to get busy. Ave a wonderful Sunday everyone.

I got up 3 times, 4, 6 and 8:00. It was supposed to freeze last night but it only got down to 35 which is fine with me. I hope they are wrong about a freeze again tonight. The wind finally quit. We had 2 days of 30 to 40 mph winds. It was trying to blow everything off the porch.

I actually got my 3 newspapers this weekend. The only reason I have a subscription is so I don't have to look for a paper on Sunday. Some weekends I get no papers or maybe one. It doesn't seem to do any good to complain. The best I can do is get a credit for missed delivery.

Don't know what I will do today, if anything. I have a solar light I want to install. It was suppose to have screws but didn't. I'm sure I can find some that will work in the 3 jars of odd screws I have.

Good morning all!

Day one of moving went great, we cleaned then moved a bookcase and some chairs. We’re really pacing ourselves since we have until the first to finish, and rolling a cart down a hundred feet of warm carpeted hallway is making this the easiest move ever.

The pics from Q are wonderful, really wish we could have been there.

Sounds kind of chilly in your neck of the woods, Sue. I have never experienced below-zero temperatures, and have a hard time imagining what it might be like. I'm sure that under such temps I would be "I think I'll just stay inside today" kind of person.

As for newspapers - goodness, I gave up on newspaper subscription home-delivery a long time ago. Half (or more!) of the time the paper would never arrive, when it did it was often so soggy from being rained on, or thrown into the water-filled ditch, that I couldn't read it anyway. When I would phone to complain, the promised credit to my account somehow never got posted.

Finally I just threw up my hands.

I am a news junkie, though.

I now subscribe to both The Washington Post and the New York Times. Lots of interesting and in-depth articles in both these papers. This morning I read an article written by a doctor that treats lung cancer.

Cost of each is about $1.00 per week, so $2.00/week for both. Less than candy bar money. I wanted to subscribe to the NYT for quite a while, but their offer was always about $15.95/mo. When they had a "special" for a year, $1.00 per week, I signed up. After a year the sub is supposed to go back to $15.95/mo. When it does, I'll just cancel and then see what kind of offer they make to lure me back.

In addition to my computer, I can also read both papers on my smart phone, and on my tablet.

Most regional, and even local, papers have online versions these days. I am lazy, easier for me to just power up my computer, rather than going out, slogging around in the snow, looking for a soggy bundle that isn't there anyway.

That is, if I had any snow around here. . .

Sue, that is just tooooo cold! I'd vote to stay inside nice & warm.
I really appreciate living in CA as the constrast in the weather between here & the rest of the country is greater than ever this winter.
Spent yesterday with daughter in San Diego - had brunch at an outdoor cafe, strolled along the beach, walked to the store - all in the 70's. Had a lovely day in January! Something we both appreciate after living in KS all of our lives.

Barbie, those pics of the Q are really nice. Thanks for sharing them with us. You really do have an eye for photography.
Sandy, glad you made it out there! Love your impromtu actions to just pick up & go! Those are the best trips!

I miss my KS newspapers. I kept home delivery until I moved out here - mostly, like Martha, to get the Sunday paper without having to go out to buy one. I still prefer to have the printed word (newspapers & books) rather than reading stuff online - but I admit, online is more convenient, saves trees & is the way of the future so guess I need to just go with the flow.

Good morning. Okay, just turned 12 so guess it’s afternoon now! Just came in from blowing about 9” of snow from my driveway. My sweet neighbor was shoveling really early this morning and did my sidewalk again. And I was going to take the snowblower to mine and theirs but he’s to much of an early bird! Thought son had filled gas on the blower but apparently not so it stopped on me out front so hauled it back to the garage to fill it and plug it in. In order to start it. My dumb mistake! Sue, I think you’re sending the cold our way this afternoon with strong winds to go along with it.
Barbie, your pictures are beautiful! And it sounds like a good time is being had out there. Carol, glad Bill is home and sounds like he’s on the mend. Always better to sleep in our own beds. Mickie, glad your move is going smoothly. Martha, 35 would be balmy to me at this point!

Good Morning. Still morning here in the west. Have had rain and wind the last couple of days and rain overnight but just cloudy right now. Probably wont get any moon shots tonight so counting on my photography friends with clear skies to supply a few.

Lots going on this morning. Mickie getting moved in perfect climate ha ha I get the local newspaper from my neighbor when he is finished reading it he brings it over and puts it on my table outside my front door...perfect ha ha I supply him with goodies. Some really cold snowy weather some of you are having. We need the rain so no complaints here. And as long as it gives me a few sunny days during the week that works for me. I did go over and inspect my Motorhome for leaks and couldn't find any so that is good.

I had to change a couple of the flourescent lights in my kitchen yesterday and was very glad I had my new 4 step Step Ladder with handles. I hate those darn lights but kind of spendy to change so will live with them for now. Not sure what today will bring in the cleaning and sorting dept. I was a bit of a slacker yesterday and thinking today might bring the same. Started watching Grace and Frankie Season 5 on Netflix so might be a bit more of the same today. Had a bigger than normal breakfast today so might just end up with an early dinner.

That is what I did all winter back in MN! I just hibernated! Hated it! That is why I am now in CA and loving it!

I ordered the on-line version of the Desert-Sun newspaper (Palm Springs) last month and was never able to get into it on their website. I did an on-line chat with them about it but was never resolved. I gave up and cancelled my subscription.

I thought I had today off but was reminded yesterday that I had agreed to work for one of my co-workers today, so I will go in later this afternoon for her.

Sunny and near 70 today. I feel for those of you in the cold and snow out east! January is notoriously the worst month of the winter.

Anne, newspapers will just about bend over backwards to keep you from unsubscribing. Every time I get fed up and call them they give me a free month. I have access to the whole week on line but really just want the sale papers on Sunday. When I was a kid my aunts in Dallas took 2 local papers that were about 2 inches thick. I don't know how anyone kept up with reading them. What a waste of paper. I have trouble keeping up with the Abbeville paper and it's only about 8 pages.

Karen, I wonder if they have a 5 step ladder with the handles. I try to be very careful when I use a ladder but would really like one with handles. I have 5 smoke alarms and it seems like one of them is always needing a new battery or they are out of date and need to be replaced.

There is so little on TV that I want to watch I was watching bull riding. The Saints are playing in the NFL playoffs today. I couldn't care less about football but it would be as good as bull riding. lol

I hope I remember to look out tonight.

Hi Martha!

What kind of things do you like to watch? What subjects interest you? If you have a broadband internet connection you could log into YouTube and watch just about anything that strikes your fancy.

This past week I watched (YouTube):

1. A full-length special on the Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten (whose Great Royal Wife was Nefertiti).
2. A full-length special on the eruption of Mt. St. Helen's (natch! )
3. A full-length special on whether (or not!) an eruption of the volcanic Greek island of Santorini might have been the basis for the Atlantis story
4. A full-length version of the ballet "Swan Lake", presented by the Vienna State Ballet

(Yo! Those drop-dead-gorgeous, muscular guys - in tights yet - ahem - not much left to the imagination - are a real eyeful!! OH!! Be still my heart!! )

5. A couple of my favorite YouTube channels are on beekeeping, new videos are posted every few days. I care nothing for bees, and I don't like the taste of honey ( LOL - that is, aside from the guys in tights mentioned above!! ) but these beekeeping videos are fascinating
6. Several videos recorded and posted by folks that live on the Big Island of Hawaii, just walking around showing the massive destruction that the recent eruption of Kilauea caused.
7. Several "how-to" jewelry making tutorials

Of course, there are so many horse, dog, and cat (and probably bull riding!) videos on YouTube that a person probably wouldn't have the time to watch them all in a lifetime, even if they were watching 24/7.

Most of what is on YouTube is commercial-free. Some have three or four seconds of a commercial at the start of a video, that you can just skip over.

What do you like to watch? I guarantee, whatever it is, you can find it on YouTube. For free.

YouTube videos can be watched on your computer, but I prefer to watch them on my hi-def, flat-screen, tv - via a Roku box. Many YouTube videos are in hi-def, and even 4K.

Roku would not be a good option for you full-timers, but for us stay-at-home-a-lot, now-and-again'ers, Roku is AWESOME. With Roku you can subscribe to literally hundreds of channels - ALL OF THEM FREE. Or, if you want to pay to subscribe to a premium channel or two, you can do that too!

Roku is dead easy, plug-and-play, to set up. I have had Roku for about eight years, it has totally replaced cable tv for me. I love my Roku!!

Martha, even though that ladder has only four steps, you can stand on the top step, which you could never do on most 5-step ladders, so it is really taller than it looks. I have a similar one, but not quite as tall or with as tall a handle, that I carry in my RV. It hardly weighs anything. Does not let me get to top of motorhome, but it does let me wash the tops of windows comfortably and without worries about falling. I gave my old, shorter and heavier one to my DIL for a garage sale.

More rain today, as usual. Even though it is not as cold as Michigan or the east coast, it is still too cold and wet to go outside here. Supposed to have a couple of dry days later this week, so I will time my laundry for one of them. Changed my bed today and put out new towels. Even though I have a "walk-around" bed, it is more like a squeeze-around bed, so not an easy job to change sheets. But at least it is easier than the corner beds, which I would never have been able to manage since I am not supposed to kneel on soft surfaces because of my fragile kneecaps, per the guy who replaced my knees a long time ago. Don't want to take a chance on breaking them!

Will have to go out Tuesday for propane, my usual blood tests, and new appointment with pain clinic for my back, but otherwise staying home this week. Hope pain clinic can do something about my back. In meantime, got lots of class work to do. And something funny for those of you who are/were college teachers or college students. (Way back in 1984-86 before I had a full-time job after my divorce, I taught part-time at four colleges and substituted high school one day a week, so this article rang true for me. Which reminds me, can you believe that every semester I have to remind students that when they record their presentations at home, they must be properly dressed in business casual and to make sure the background is "professional." A professional background is defined as NOT having nude posters, dirty clothing, unmade beds (or beds of any kind), empty liquor and beer bottles, and anything else in the background that they would not display in an office setting! Funniest presentation was when I told students to film themselves against a "plain" background, preferably an empty wall, and one student who worked in a health club recorded himself in the tiled shower room with a soap dish in the background. Yes, at least he was fully dressed, but I shared that one with a few other close instructor friends!

Really nasty storm here yesterday. Started out in 40's with hard rain. As the temperature plunged the snow came and roads were a mess. They closed the interstate as cars were off the road all over. Single digits during the night and it's in the twenties today. The wind was 20-25 MPH and I was so glad our power stayed on, when it is that windy lots of limbs/trees come down. especially with the ground being so wet. So, I am totally bored today and the dogs want to go in and out. My little Havanese especially loves the snow.
We usually go out on Sunday night but thinking we might now go snowplows got the snow off but ice underneath.
They still had the Women's March yesterday afternoon but they only marched around the building it was so cold and had started to sleet. My friend went an had a really hard time getting home. She lives about 20 minutes away and then a mile off the highway down a 1 lane hilly road!!! She made it though! Had a scary moment when a car started to pull out from a side road in from of her. She couldn't stop and she laid on her horn and flashed her lights but he pulled out. It was a STATE cop! How dumb, it's a wonder they didn't have a terrible wreck as the road has big drop offs on either side.
Hoping it warms up soon!!

I think I have the TV on mostly for noise. Most of the time I'm on Facebook or reading blogs or emails. I almost never watch a movie. That involves paying attention. I will have to look on You Tube for the Bigfoot shows. That's about the only thing I don't get on satellite anymore. I am waiting for these idiots to shoot each other. I have a few relatives that could be on that show. lol I like a lot of the shows on PBS but right now it's mostly reruns.

When I was working it was amazing what some people wore to job interviews. Now it's so hard to find anyone that can pass a drug test employers probably don't care what they wear. Most of the schools near me have strict dress codes with uniforms for the students. The teachers don't have to wear uniforms and I have seen some that don't have on what I would consider proper attire for a teacher. I guess I'm just too old.

My tooth pain keeps coming and going. I have a referral to see a dentist that does root canals. I just hope they will see me soon.
