Sleepy Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sleepy Tuesday

Postby BarbaraRose » Tue Jan 08, 2019 1:36 pm

Just got up and see that no one has started MC, so here it is!

I caught my mouse last night (hopefully no more!) and he is in a small clear box right now soon to be released on the other side of the retaining wall in the field next door. The cats are thoroughly entertained watching him.

I have the day off so will get to some projects and cleaning/laundry shortly. Want to get my new bike adjusted so I can start riding it around the park each day. Need to build up my stamina and strengthen my knees (and get some sun and fresh air!)

I sent my older brother and his wife a Christmas card and it came back yesterday saying "forward time expired, return to sender". I know I got the address right (printed large and legible), so not sure what happened. As far as I know, they haven't moved, but then again, my brothers rarely tell me anything, so who knows?!

Yesterday was crazy busy at work. Kids go back to school today so they all came in yesterday for haircuts. Unfortunately, my manager didn't schedule accordingly and we were understaffed for it. It is good to be busy tho.
It was a good thing I asked my manager last week about the $1 state minimum wage increase, because the owners "forgot" about it and it wasn't given to us until my manager brought it to their attention.

Hope you all have a good day! :D

Barbie, I think you need a "bonus" of your unpaid wages. Someone needs to report them to the wage and hour people.

My neighbor is in the field across the road with some kind of homemade sled being pulled by his mule. It looks like a pallet on a metal frame. I don't know why he won't just get a 4 wheeler because I know he is having trouble walking. I just hope he doesn't get hurt.

I need to go to town and get cat food but slow getting on the road.

Martha, the minimum wage just went up on January 1st and we haven't gotten our paycheck for this past week yet so the changes will show up on the next check for this past week.

I found out I have until the 15th to change my health insurance and found one that is just under $100 per month, but is with a different insurance provider. I hope they are decent.

Now I just have to do something about my internet service (they doubled that rate too!).

I let the mouse go at his new home by the homeless peoples camp!

Barb, you should have put a red dot of fingernail polish on his/her back before you let him go so you would know if he came back in case you trapped another mouse! I used to take them for a drive in my car after I realized some might be returning to my live trap when I lived in a house many years ago.

I am really losing it. I slept in this morning and while I was eating my late breakfast, I panicked, thinking I had forgotten to set up two discussion groups in my newly opened class that students would use to evaluate fellow speakers. And I had not entered them into the gradebook, either, which would involve contacting online staff. It took me an hour of thinking about it before I checked my syllabus and realized I had decided not to include them. Oops. :o

If it weren't for this forum, I would not know what day of the week it was. But I do remember that tomorrow is my next blood test, and I need to run some errands, so I am taking the motorhome out and parking it at the mall, which is fairly close to the doctor's office. Then I will do some shopping and look for a Michael's store to get some backing material for an open shadow box I bought from Amazon. I like it, but did not realize it had no backing, so will need to staple and glue something onto it before I hang it. I plan to use museum putty to stick my tiny Zuni fetishes in it, and then it will get hung on a wall. I am not very creative, but I do get "crafty" once in a great while!

Judy, I don't have any appointments this week so everyday has felt like Saturday.

The Louisiana group I camp with a lot are all crafters. They are always after me to do something. I bought a $1 vase at the Good Will and put a string of battery operated lights in it. They had to post it on Facebook as my craft. They are very funny.

Judy, I thought of the nail polish idea after I released him/her. I will do that if I catch another one.

I did some running around this afternoon. Made a cover for the cockpit of my kayak to keep snakes, spiders, etc out of it. Nothing worse than being out on the water and discovering you are not alone! There are already raccoon footprints inside it so I know they have been checking it out! Also bought a lock for the bike so that is secured to my carport now.

Already finished eating all the chili I made the other day. Turned out pretty good!

I sent an e-mail to my brother about the card coming back from my other brother's address and asking if they had moved (which they are actually planning to do anyways, so it isn't totally out of the realm of possibility). He sent me an e-mail back saying they did not move yet and I must have put down the wrong address (which I did not). Anyways, he accidentally sent me another email that I think was meant for his wife that said "...Speaking of crazy tho, I got this (email) from Barb. She must have fallen and hit her head on the cement."

Good afternoon. My "deep cleaning" was on hold for today as I got a better offer. Celebratory lunch with Malia Lane on the publishing of her book. She wanted to go to Olive Garden so we did that then made a few errand stops. This included a stop at the Black Rock for a blended mocha. Then on to the Cupcake factory to satisfy Malia's sweet tooth. Malia is doing very well this week so we had a busy afternoon. Gave Malia all the hello's that people wanted me to tell her.

Will get back to my cleaning tomorrow. No hurry as I keep reminding myself I AM RETIRED LOL which is good and bad because so much easier to procrastinate now.

Got my new curtains ala Amazon today so will hang them tomorrow. Since I now have clean windows.

Made a stop at the store on my way home from Malia's I needed some fresh salad fixings. Then the dog and I went for a walk. Not a long one but long enough to satisfy her LOL Now time to put my feet up and do some dog snuggling.

I'm so glad you got together with Malia today. She looks good. And she deserves times like today.

Barbie, at a business I had, we had the same mouse come back 3 times. We had to drive it a distance away before after the third tune. But the 2nd release my partner actually stayed after releasing him and followed the mouse . So not only did we see it return but we found the very, very tiny home it was coming in and filled it. The nail polish is a great idea.

Judy, I have to check the day/date often. Very often.

Very glad to hear Malia is feeling well enough to go out with you, Karen.

When I was in the Keys a couple of years ago, they were having problems with the endangered Key Deer having bot fly or screwworm infestations. The area is an island with several subdivisions and these tiny deer are used to eating landscaping and begging for food from residents. They had already lost 135 deer, or 1/8 of the herd from these flies.

So, in order to treat the deer with anti-screwworm meds, they got the help of residents and passed out aerosol cans of paint in three different colors, plus bags of treated bread. After a training session, people would attract a deer and feed it a piece of treated bread, and then spray its back with a specific color. They would only feed treated bread to deer without any paint on their backs. Everyone could tell which deer had been treated and which had not. (They could feed deer who had already been treated with regular bread, however, to make sure they kept coming back.)

Then the next week, they needed to give the deer another dose of medicine so they would look for deer, but this time the color changed and they would only feed treated bread to deer without the new color. This was repeated with a third color on the third week.

The deer may have looked pretty funny with three colors of paint on them when the project was done, but it helped get medicine to them in an organized way. They also released sterile flies to help control the disease and the infestation is now over.
