Winter Mix Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Winter Mix Monday

Postby Colliemom » Mon Jan 07, 2019 7:51 am

Morning everyone. I can tell this is Monday as we have a storm again. Did same thing last Monday evening too, just in time to kabosh New Years Eve. Mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet, windy, reduced visibilities and slick roads are the story for today. Some rain too later today. Gonna be a mess. Our schools which were to return from Christmas vacation today, just got an added day. I think every school in the northern lower peninsula and the majority of the U.P. Are closed today.

So, I will be heading down to work in my basement project. Got painting to do. Am getting closer to finishing it up down there. Once paint dries, wil finish installing last of pegboard, shadow boxes etc. and then be done. Then it will be just paint some wall shelves, my new big work table and then lastly the floor. This has been fun, but hasn’t been an every day working down there thing as I have been busy with other things too.

By the way. Was going to mention that I figured how to turn off crazy words spell correct on IPhone. Go into settings, General, then to Dictionary. Make sure American English is checked and no others are especially Apple Dictionary. Do same on your IPad if you have one. I aven’t had any more crazy words popping into my sentences since I did that. If I do get different words, it’s sensible English ones

Won’t be long and you gals heading to Q will be gathering. Will the Gov’t shutdown have any impact on where you can camp down there? Barbie, glad you are going even if it’s just a couple days. Sorry about all your financial issues.

Beth, are you going back to SD this summer? I thought last year was going to be your last up there?

Time to move on here. Daylight will be arriving soon. Then I’ll get outta this chair, get cleaned up and out of jammies into painting duds and off to basement. Y’all have a nice day.

Nothing exciting here. Going to catch up on laundry. Just about everything is dirty. Ty needs his walks. Oh, and I want to defrost the freezer. Nothing like your energy, though, Sue.

Do some fun things and share!

Good morning Sue and Beth!

Woke up with pain in my left shoulder joints. Not sure if I can blame that on being so busy at work or sleeping on it wrong. I noticed it yesterday a little but worse today. I have some prescription ointment to use on it that works pretty good, but also my roommate made some really good salve stuff from marijuana and coconut and peppermint oil. That works awesome but has a funky smell to it so I don't want to use it at work.

I don't work until later at 4pm so have plenty of time to get some things done around here. I got a burst of energy yesterday and got a few things done before work. Need to find another burst today! Even finally made chili last night!

Yes, Sue, Beth is going back to Keystone this next summer. She hadn't planned on it but I think she got talked into it again by her boss!

Have a good day!

It’s just afternoon here! Thanks, Sue, for sharing your nasty weather with us! I had a vet appointment at 11:30 this morning and it started sleeting just before I left. Was in the office about a half hour and my car was covered in ice and the sidewalk and parking lot was sheer ice. And my trip home was almost all downhill so I just took it nice and slow. Luckily the office is only about a mile from my house so didn’t have far to drive in it! Salt truck has been by but noticing traffic out front is moving a little slower. And tomorrow it’s supposed to be 48! Strange weather we’re having this winter! My 4 legged buddy did just fine on it! He had a harder time on the floor in the vet’s office! He’s so funny, as soon as we walk into the room he goes right over to the scale and plops down on it! He knows the routine! Was happy to see his weight was good today, 78 pounds of energy and love! But he is now legal with his rabies and they knew to give me an extra certificate to put in the RV! So, come on spring! At least he’s ready to go! I got 3 packages today and they were all for him! I ordered some conditioner and detangler for him in hopes I can stay ahead of the matting with his fur! Figured it was worth a try! I like to keep his coat a bit longer this time a year but it’s a process! Beth, I wondered too about you going back this summer. Bet they’re happy to have you back again this year! Not much else happening here. I’m in for the day now and need to get to some projects too. Sue, I admire your energy! Anne, thank you for your thoughtful insights on the fires. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts. Tina, glad to get to keep up on your journey west. Hope everyone has a great rest of the day!

A brief bit of sun today, but everything is still wet. Also, I had put plastic on two windows and noticed some mold growing along the rubber strip at the bottom. I have been periodically undoing the plastic during the day and letting the damp air out, but apparently that was not enough. Anyway, I have a bottle of cleaner with Chlorox in it, so pulled the plastic back and sprayed the rubber strips and then wiped them down with paper towel. I also left the plastic loose on the bottom of the windows.

The strange thing is that I have similar mold even in places that do NOT have plastic, like my driver's side door window, so I sprayed and cleaned all of my windows. It has rained so much and been so cloudy that even on dry days the roadways and everything else stays wet around here. Anyway, I really like that Chlorox cleaner! I use it in my toilet as a quick cleaner when "stuff" leaves residue on the side of the bowl. Also good for other cleaning, but have to watch the bleach.

Very bored as I have not been out since last Friday when I took my tire out to get it repaired and picked up some groceries. I will drive over to the mall and park there on Wednesday and then take a short Uber ride to my doctor for a blood test. Hope my numbers are better! Have to open my course today, so another semester begins! It has been a very nice several week break from last semester.

Yes, as others answered, I was talked into returning another summer. Hoping for a wonderful year. And now, Linda is returning also.

I was wondering about Linda. Glad she will be back there with you.

Picked up my bike this morning! It is so pretty! Needs a little adjusting here and there but I took it for a ride around the park and it is very comfortable and nice to ride. I need to get a lock for it tho.

Sun is out! Beautiful day! :D

Since they wanted you to return so badly, Beth, I hope their offer included more money and more benefits! You are obviously a valuable person, so should be compensated enough to make it worth your while, and so that you do not need to be "talked into" something. :)

Actually, no more money involved. I just never intended to keep going to the same place summer after summer and was considering actually retiring except when I volunteer. That said, I love the Black Hills. And by going back I still have decided to wait on collecting social security.

Waiting on social security is a good idea because it means more money each year in the future. That's why I waited until I was 69! Course, I am still working half-time anyway.

Another day I can't complain about the weather. I think I have done enough of that. It got up to 77 today and it's suppose to be in the 70's again tomorrow.

I found the repair kit for the blinds and got them restrung today. I sure hope I don't have to do any of the double blinds. The single one was hard enough.

My house is turning green from all the rain. There is a pressure washer here but I have never used it. I washed the house with a brush on an extending pole a couple of years ago and don't want to have to do that again. It takes me 2 days to wash the motorhome so it might take a month for the house.

Aww, Sheila, how dare they! And I mean that.

Judy, I meant to mention I had a mold problem on all my windows the summer I spent in damp, humid New Hampshire. I was constantly having to clean around my windows. It's another reason I prefer dry climates... Or at least drier ones.

I did get laundry done. Didn't get to my freezer. Another day.

I took Ty to the dog area and they've added one of those dog agility "king of the hill" pieces. I asked Ty to go up and he ignored me, so I put him on leash and asked him up and down twice. Third time, off leash, he did it all by himself. He likes being at the top lol The best was I ran toward it and he automatically ran and went up and down. Funny how he doesn't always like to show how smart he is. Today he was a show off. And he did this with someone else and their dog in there. Very kewl.

Beth, I really need a dry climate, at least for a week or two. The stuff in my basement bins feels damp to me, like the paper towel roll I keep in the area where I store my hoses. I am afraid to look at my suitcase, although I am in the habit of wrapping everything up in several layers of plastic when i put it in underneath storage.

Unfortunately, I am stuck here in the damp until at least mid-February. I am also bored out of my mind, so might head to the beach for a couple of days some weekend, even if it means paying double for camping spots in both places. At least my rate here is fairly cheap. Tillicum Beach is only an hour-and-an-half from here.
