Back to the Routines

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Back to the Routines

Postby Colliemom » Wed Jan 02, 2019 8:13 am

Good Morning. The holidays are over, now it’s back to normal routines if there is such a thing. And today the New Year really begins. Yesterday was just a preliminary beginning, but today we start out fresh. Today we have a clean slate to fill.

I had quite a New Years Eve and A busy New Years Day. As you saw by my pictures I posted yesterday, Mom Nature gave us a much overdue dump of the white stuff and turned us into a Winter Wonderland. One New Years Eve, my neighbors flew home from TX holidays with family and arrived at the airport in late afternoon, right when the storm was getting it’s act together. Grabbed a bite to eat, fast stop at a store for groceries and a long 50 miles horrible drive home in the storm only to find no power to their house, food in freezer all spoiled and house at 55 degrees. That being my old house, there is a gas stove in living room which they turned on so had back up heat for most part. Called power company. I offered to put them up for the night if needed and whatever else they needed. So the wait began. We kept in touch as they didn’t want to leave house and miss power company, the which of said they should be there around 10:30 p.m. I stayed up here till 11:30 before going to bed and power company didn’t get to them till 12:30 a.m. Issue was at pole, power back at 12:45. Certainly a different New Years Eve for sure. Then of course it was up a few hours later and 9 inches of white stuff out there. Breakfast, few posts on the IPad and then out withbthe camera, then the blower, up to town for late lunch/early dinner and then home for a dog walk. Our road crews stayed on the snow all night and even had my road plowed by 10 yesterday morning, So was business as usual up here. Snowmobiles were estactic and wasted no time in getting out there and I know the business people were very happy as were those longing for snow.

Today will be much more normal here as going to clean house a bit and head back to my basement project. I see a snow storm is headed to AZ and NM. Stay safe and warm, thosecof you out there. Tina, are you sure you don’t want to reverse direction  You gals along west coast are having your share of cold too, keep warm.

Lyn, I sent you a PM.

Enough jabbering here, time to get busy.

Good morning Sue & everyone!

Sue, that was quite an uptake for your friends to come home to no electric, spoiled food and a cold house. Glad they finally got their power back.

Like you, things are betting back to normal around here. Took down the Christmas decorations yesterday morning to get ready for the New Years Day celebration in our site yesterday afternoon and evening. Everyone, other than one armed Irmi, played corn hole. I ended up leaving the celebration early because I was so miserable with pain, but went to my doctor this morning, and it looks like an MRI is in order. But she wants me to finish the prescription she put me on to try to get the inflammation down, because the infection is putting pressure on the nerves causing the pain. On a good note, the weather here is gorgeous, with afternoon temps in the low 80's with sunshine. Sure beats the weather some of you in the SW and NE are having. Steve is going to grill a steak for him and I'm going to have some of the seafood leftovers I didn't get yesterday for my meal. How can you go wrong with MD cream of crab soup, scallops wrapped with bacon and marinated shrimp?

Wherever you are or whatever you are doing, stay safe and warm.

Oh, Irmi, so sorry about the pain. Hope they get this figured out soon!

I was actually hoping for snow overnight. Ha, they got the cold temps right but the sun is shining brightly. There's still a small possibility of snow (or rain) this afternoon,v then that that is gone. And daytime temps will start back towards normal tomorrow... Hopefully to get there and stay there for Tina's arrival. Just in case any moisture is rain, I'll be heading out shortly for an earlier than usual long walk with Ty. After bundling up.

Sue, your snow pics are gorgeous. Glad the neighbors got their electric back.

Any of you on blood pressure meds make sure to check yours for recalls... More keep being added to the list.

Another yucky day. It's foggy and misting rain. There is rain all the way into Texas with snow on the back side. The weather people can't make up their mind but say we could get 4 or 5 inches of rain. Just what we need.

I was cleaning my car and found my electric payment that I thought I had mailed last week. Decided to go to the post office and Walmart. I finally bought a steam mop. Now I have to mop the floor. Walmart only had one of the one I wanted and the box looked very abused. It doesn't look used or broken. Picked up a new file box for 2018 tax papers and file folders to start the new year. Moved the 2014 box to the old house.

Irmi, I must have missed what happened to your arm.

My life is anything but routine. I am packing a 7 room house. I won’t stay on here long or I will start whining and sobbing. Will just stop in to say hi every now and then. Safe travels.

Stay strong Shirv. Come and share. Through the years many here have walked in your shoes. Down sizing large houses, sorting though rooms full of memories, stuff none of the kids even want.......

The rain held off here in New Orleans and Claudia and I spent the day wandering around the French Quarter. Tomorrow the predicted rain may or may not come but plans included inside activities if necessary.

Had an exciting morning. I was in bed reading this morning because it was soooooo nice and warm under my comforter, when I heard a weird noise, like water running. Looked out my back window and found that the water pipe had burst and there was a fountain of water that was at least 8 feet high! (I was using tank water, and although my hose was hooked up, the water was off.) Nothing I could do, so I quickly called the office and then jumped out of bed and got dressed. Guy arrived in just a couple of minutes and turned the water off, replaced the pipe, and left it turned on to a trickle. It went down to 28 last night, so apparently it froze and then thawed this morning after the sun came out and warmed things up above freezing. The rest of this week is supposed to stay above freezing, but I have no idea about next week. Freezing here, but Michigan and Ohio are having a relatively warm winter.

Shirl, I sympathize with you. I remember when my kids graduated from college at the same time (older one went back for second BA) and took off for jobs in California and Texas. But of course, they left most of their stuff, so when i sold my house a few months later, I had to sort through their junk and my junk, plus a lot of my parents and brother's junk. I even had some of my grandparents junk! It took me several months. I stored a lot of it in my new condo until more years went by, and they finally came and got it!

So, whining is allowed. I hope you don't have too quick of a deadline!

My platelets are still down so another delay in my medications, which means my schedule is really messed up as this means I need to stay in cold and rainy Eugene at least another two weeks or even more. Darn!

Judy, if the hose wasn't drained, leaving it attached most likely caused the problem. I learned that with a house then was told my hose either had to be unattached during possible freezes or wrapped, etc to keep it from freezing at different rv parks. One park gave paperwork saying if their water line froze while a camper hose was attached we had to pay. So I always remove my hose from both ends as a precaution.

Sorry about your delays. :(

Tina, hopefully the rain will hold off for New Orleans tomorrow. It looks like it's training North East and the line is slowly moving East. It's suppose to be clear here Friday and Saturday. Sure hope so.

Hose was drained. Other end was lower and open, so no water in it at all. In fact I loosened it at the faucet the day before. The young owner said to just leave it dribble from now on, so I let him set the amount of dribble.

I guess until it gets more normal weather wise it's going to be the topic of the day ... I am so tired of the cold
plants have been covered through out the day even..possibly laziness on my part but it's been so dang cold that I haven't wanted to uncover them... it was game day today so glad as her house is warmer than mine.. I understand that it will warm up think Friday sure hope so...
I need to start taking the Christmas decorations down so they will hopefully be all gone by the GTG time
it really cuts into the day...when it's too cold to get out of bed
dropped my battery powered radio yesterday now it won't come on so need to find another one...we got this when we first started full timing so years old. I sorta hoped it would automatically turn on last night but it didn't.
Cheryl got lots of snow for those not of FB several inches it sounded like
someone said that it actually snowed here in Q once years ago I am not hoping for that at all
