Cold in the SW

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cold in the SW

Postby Bethers » Sat Dec 29, 2018 1:01 pm

Freezing this week in southwest NM and southeast AZ. Got to suck it up for a few days by this time next weekend things should be getting better. Meantime I'm glad I have electric and lots of propane.

Hope everyone is safe and enjoying themselves.. Wherever you are.

Good morning Beth!

Feeling lousy this morning from my cold. It is mostly up in my sinuses. Will just hang out on the couch today.

I usually keep the cats out on the porch at night but it has been pretty chilly at night. I was worried that if I let them stay inside, they will sit outside my bedroom door all night and cry, bothering my roommate. Denise was gone last night so I let them stay inside and neither of them made a meow all night. I have not wanted them in my bedroom due to the flea situation but I haven't seen any sign of fleas for awhile now, so maybe they are finally gone now. Probably too cold for them.

Hope you all stay warm and dry today! Sounds cold in the west and wet in the southeast! Sunny but chilly here (40's at night, low 60's daytime), but compared to other places, I am not complaining at all! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Beth, Liz has reminded me of the variations of weather to watch for as I head west. I believe cold and snow was on that list. In the meantime I will slowly head that way. Feel free to turn up the thermostat a bit before I get there. I did bring layers based on my own memories!

I have two comforters I use on my bed as a blanket--one that is medium weight down and another that is a very light cotton that i use in the summer. With each, I have a throw that I keep folded up on my bed to toss on and off during the night. Except last summer, I put on the lighter stuff and then had to switch back to the warmer down set because it was so chilly at night, even in Arizona in winter and Colorado in the summer.

Those of us from the east are used to summer nighttime temps dropping maybe 10-20 degrees at night. Out here, especially in the desert, it drops maybe 30-40 degrees at night or even more! The minute that sun sets behind a mountain, it gets 10 degrees colder in 15 minutes! I had to learn a lot about always having a jacket or sweatshirt around. The only exception is along the coast or wet places like Oregon and Washington. Here it follows the eastern pattern, I think because the humidity holds what heat there is. And the closer you are to the ocean, the more even the temperature is all year round!

I am slowly working my way through all the food I bought before the holidays. You would think I was feeding an army. I'd like to go out tomorrow and bring home some Thai food, but need to keep eating what I have!

Beth it's not just the SE part of AZ... we are so cold here in Q freezing warning tonight and tomorrow night. so Plants are bunched up and covered (the outside plants) just so cold!!! and my dd in Idaho couldn't even pretend to be symptomatic   I will give her it would be colder in Idaho than in Arizona but it's like we always told my sister who lives in Vegas it's what you get used to... It turned cold a lot earlier here than normal as well... So we will bundle up wrap up and have to heat on and wish it was a hotter heater!!! Yes I could go run the furnace as well might do that while the genny is running but it's so loud will see in a few if bundling up doesn't work...
I think it's a large cold front Carol was saying it is colder in MX than normal as well we will hope it warms up soon
