I know you are pining for Christmas snow, so thought I would send you a couple of pictures from here. I guess you could call the one, Mom Natures Christmas tree, but she did a lousy job of decorating it this year. Sorry it's not nice deep fluffy stuff with a nice blue sky, but nature hasn't been cooperating. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Sue, I'm loving them also. I miss snow and usually see it a couple times a year. I don't miss the work involved with it. So your pictures are perfect.

You are welcome everyone. Glad you are enjoying them. I said they aren't the greatest, cause when you live where 140 inches of snow is a normal winter and many times the trees are laden with snow, these are kind of not so great in my opinion Lets just call then "frosted".

Sheila, I first read this yesterday evening, and it really made me laugh. This morning, I am still chuckling! Not really sure why this strikes me as so very funny, but it really does. Maybe because of the "trueness" of it?

The mental image of you, maybe with a cup of coffee in hand, maybe a bit of coffee sloshing over the rim of your cup as you walk, slouching through the snow in flip-flops, while Shadow squats to do "his business" on the end of his leash, is utterly priceless!!

I am laughing still! Thanks for the smiles!!

Sue, sorry, I MUST disagree again. They most definitely are "the greatest".

For those of us (like myself) who don't live in snow country, and seldom (if ever!) see snow falling from the sky, or piling up on the ground. . . well, I think this is just the kind of mental image we have (and what makes people, like me, long to live in, or at least to visit "snow country").

LOL!!

On the other hand, if your photos showed 140 inches of snow, tree branches bending almost vertical from the weight of it, un-plowed road out front of the house, and, maybe, three-foot-deep dog tracks through it - we might begin to have major second thoughts about our moving idea, and maybe begin to think "Er. . . give me a minute to think a little bit more on that 'living in snow country' idea."

Your photos, as they are, are thus *PERFECT*. They totally illustrate the beauty, and little of the difficulty!! Thus your photos only tempt us, they do not discourage us to "do it" (move to snow country)!!

Do you still have those photos that you posted last year of your snow-dusted house? If yes, would love to see them on here again.

Today is Christmas Eve. I think I may finally be getting "in the Christmas spirit", thanks in no small part to your wintry photos.

Anne, if we had trees bending sideways with a hundred and 40 inches of snow on them and 3 foot dog tracks, I might reconsider living in big snow country too Fortunately it’s spread out over about 5 months. You can go 25 to 50 miles, east, north or south of here and have half of our total, believe it or not. We are the highest elevation in the norther lower and a prime snow belt area for Lake Michigan and sometimes Lake Superior if the winds are strong enough. Yes, those bands can travel that far. There’s an area in the U.P. Which gets about half our total too, but there are areas up in the Keweenaw Peninsula, that finger jutting north into Lake Superior, that have 300 inches a season. The most ever here was the winter of 1996-97 when we had 207.5 inches. And then one winter, don’t remember the year, we barely made 100. It’s fun, it’s crazy, it’s challenging and it’s tough all at the same time. The nice thing is though, we don't have The issues of the cities in that no traffic, roads can be plowed and sanded easier, people just take winter in stride and we have so much beauty to enjoy it in.

More snow??? Here are some old photos of my kids and ex and me snowmobiling. The first photo was taken in 1977 at Mackinaw State Park and shows what happens when you take a three-year-old along who still needs a nap. Sometimes we would have to stretch him out on the seat and let him sleep for an hour. My parents accused me of abusing the kids taking them out in such cold weather, but they were really warm inside their suits and helmets:

You like snow??? This is in 1979 at TipUpTown, a winter carnival on Houghton Lake in Michigan that attracts thousands of snowmobiles. I am with my two boys.

Oh, and I had a snowmobile suit with one very enviable feature--a drop seat--which meant I did not have to undress to use the "facilities" in the woods.

Thank you Sue and Judy for the photos!!! A drop seat on your snowmobile sounds like a must have!! I like looking at the snow but do not like being in it.
