Winter Solstice Friday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Winter Solstice Friday

Postby JudyJB » Fri Dec 21, 2018 1:55 pm

Hooray! The days will start getting longer from now on! And there is a tiny bit of sun in this rainy town today, but I am sure that is a teaser as rain is predicted all week.

I posted this fast so no one would duplicate this morning coffee posting, so now I will write more. I went out yesterday and got an oil change, tire pressure check, and a new house water pump because my old one was pumping just a drizzle. Now I can take a shower with a full stream of water, which is nice. I have a lot of little organizing tasks to do today, most important of which is scanning a 1955 cookbook that my mother helped put together when I was in elementary school for the mother's club. It has a lot of the old recipes from my grandmother, aunts, one uncle, and several neighbors. Plus, it has a lot of recipes from relatives of friends I went to school with, so they will be happy to have copies. I am using Publisher to put it into a booklet again and will probably save it as a PDF.

Also, I got my large order of baklava yesterday. Shipping was expensive, so I ordered two big trays and will store some of it, eat some of it, and give the rest away. I repackaged it into a couple of tins that I will store in one of my underneath storage bins because it is cold there and baklava keeps 3 months if refrigerated. I ordered rolls, roses, and some others with walnuts and some with pistachios. If you really like baklava, try Masri Sweets online or in Dearborn, MI, because they have the best and most variety! (Also cheapest because that and french pastries are all they make and sell. I'd order french pastries, but they don't ship well. :( ) Yum!

I have missed being on/near water, so I'm at the right place for Christmas ... Even though temps are dropping by Christmas. I'll be bundling up.

Here's a pic of a couple guys fishing at the lake this morning.

I’ve made it through another rainy day of driving and maneuvering the interstates of Charlotte. Will be here through till Sunday morning and then head on down to Liz and Bob’s. I hope to stay a few days and maybe be able to make a day trip farther south for an impromptu meet up. (Hint hint...Irmi... ).

That's a beautiful view, Beth.

I didn't get much done today. I thought about going to town but never made it.

Judy, I wonder why you have had so much trouble with your water pumps. I only had to change one in 12 years. I looked at the baklava on the site you posted. It all looks good.

There is nothing on TV so I'm watching the Wizard of OZ again.

you beat me to asking that question Martha
I had to replace mine last fall (a year ago) it was the original one and this is a 2008 model
it was a cloudy dismal day here but played games and so didn't notice.
we usually play from 1 until 5 or close to it. but we played a game that we don't play often as it
takes a lot of time... called Matador a dominoes game the meeting tiles have to add up to 13 and the blanks have to have a "natural" tile which is a tile that totals 13 ie 9+4=13 fun but time consuming got through at 6:30 then ran over to the church for a Nativity Open House lots of nativities set up to view cookies to munch on nice time
still need to finish vacuuming the flour but not tonight hopefully tomorrow need to figure out why one of the carolers won't stand up right she leans and shouldn't so need to see what is up
other than clean up Christmas decorations are up
