Snowy Michigan Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Snowy Michigan Morning

Postby Colliemom » Thu Dec 06, 2018 7:56 am

Good Morning everyone. Coffe’s on for those who wish some, or tea for those who would rather have that. Heck, may as well throw out some hot cocoa too. A blanket of fresh white snow covers everything here this morning, about 3 inches I would say. Sounds like winter is getting down to business this week with colder air moving in.

Watched the funeral of President Bush yesterdsy. Was a beautiful ceramony. As the last of our parents, the“Greatest Generation” passes on, I thought of the world in which we children, the “Baby Boomers” of that generation grew up in. We will be the last of an era too, the last generation of the “kinder and gentler” nation. A time when life was slower, families spent time together, we respected our neighbors and our elders, we played and went to school without fear, people took time for and helped each other. Our “social media” was the Evening News, the neighbors porch, the social gatherings. And as we age we still carry those kinder and gentler things with us. We care about our neighbors, our friends, families, church. We volunteer, we give back. In today’s world of mass communication, social media, mass shootings, political divisions etc., we are a dying breed. I am so grateful to have been born in that time of the “kinder and gentler”nation.

And so, with that thought, I will wish you all a nice day wherever you are. Time to push the dust cloth around here before the dust bunnies carry me off

Sue, I concur. Plus I wouldn't have wanted to be a child in later times. For many reasons. One of the reasons I loved the one cg I workamped 2 different summers is that I felt the neighborhood feeling we had as kids. In today's crazy world it's hard to find that.

I was busy yesterday. I volunteered at our park's Christmas auction. It raises money to pay for activities, etc and is simply a lot of fun. I bid on several items and won two from the silent auction. I didn't expect to win any and the few things I would have loved from the live auction went way more than I could bid. Saved me money.

We're supposed to have rain off and on today and tomorrow and I'm waiting for two items (one UPS, the other USPS). My intentions are to head back into New Mexico Saturday or Sunday for a month.

Sue, I'm glad I grew up in what I consider a better world. Kids today won't know the freedom we had. My brothers, sister and I were "free range" kids. lol

Tonight is what is called the Christmas Stroll in the downtown area. You can pick up a paper and get it stamped by all the participating places and put it in for a drawing for a basket of things. There aren't that many stores in downtown and it looks like it's mostly the banks and restaurants participating. They serve punch and cookies and sometimes you get a small gift. The state decided to close the bridge in downtown so unless you can still walk across the bridge one store and restaurant will be hard to get to. I don't know if I will feel like doing that or not. It's going to be pretty cool. When I was working we did the stroll as a group and that was fun. I have lost touch with most of the ones I worked with.

It's almost time to go put more medicine in Gypsy's eye. So far she has been really good about it. The golf cart has a platform on the back that I use to carry things. I can put her up on it with some treats.

Sue, I also agree with what you said. Things have changed so much since I was a kid and not all necessarily in a good way. I would not want to be a kid nowdays.

It is a mix of rain and sun here this morning. It is getting very green all over including my weeds! Will have to get out the weed killer soon.

Have a good day!

Peggy, I'm planning to head first to Pancho Villa, then I'll see if I can get a site for a few days at Rockhound. I don't have definite plans/dates, but I'll let you know and hopefully we'll be able to gtg at least once. Too long since I've seen you.

Sue, I echo your sentiments exactly and am glad I grew up when I did. Although my nieces and nephews "sort of" did, they can't appreciate the wholeness off family we had. Brenda, Steve & I went to the Walmart in the Villages today. Brenda is a breathe of fresh air! She makes our life complete.

Good evening. I dont know where my day went. Just heard on the news A vehicle pursuit has closed down northbound lanes of I-5 freeway in Redding. Suspect was killed in a stolen vehicle was wanted for stealing a van last summer with show dogs in it. Karma??

MD appointment went fine. I didnt want to go back for a year but she wants to see me in 6 months....sheesh. I declined the lipid panel for now. Might do it in 6 months we shall see.

Made some cookies this afternoon after playing Mexican train with my neighbors for a couple of hours.....was the big winner yahoo.

Managed to also decorate my living room. Emma got all excited...she was thinking "new toys" yippee..........NOT

so now just going to put my feet up with a mocha and a couple of cookies.

I was good today. In other words I accomplished quite a bit lol. And both things I was waiting for have come so I can get on the road whenever. It won't be tomorrow. Weather is supposed to be nasty. And I just pulled several things from my freezer which I intend to cook and repackage in single servings then freeze again. I also have cookie dough for three cookies thawing which I'll bake tomorrow.

Ty and I got in a couple long walks. We passed a site with 59 to 75 people and I remembered they were doing a demonstration of building with rocks. I stayed on the outside and watched for a short time. Following is a picture of something they've done on another lot.

been a day of driving or feels like it!! went to Havasu was hoping to get a tree at Lowe's but they had none well they did but were to big and only about 4 so not even going to be any one can get discounted after Christmas... oh well a friend isn't putting one up so I can borrow her's will do that next week .... lots of wandering around some stores did get some gift cards for the kids...will send cash to the grandkids...never thought I would do this but the cost of mailing and quite frankly think the grandkids would rather have money... but thought that I would give a suggestion as to what to get perhaps...have a granddaughter that loves books so thought that it would be a good deposit on a book... then I found out their dad just moved to Alaska and they will be spending Christmas in Alaska with his family so money would be a good thing... then we were almost home and my friend that went with me said oh we forgot ATandT never even thought about it and it was her need... so guess we will have to make another trip sooner than later possibly to Yuma or Phoenix
Had to replace a gas can so hate the new ones they are such a pain in the patootie not sure if I'm not strong enough or don't hold my tongue right or what!!!! I just don't think one should need a engineering degree to dispense gas from a can into a tank be it on a generator or lawn mower or what have you...

Sheila, I feel the same way about the new gas cans. They are a PIA. I have some of the old ones with a handle on the top and side which makes them easier to pick up and pour. I decided I wanted a new one and I doubt I will ever use it. It's almost impossible to hold and get the gas to come out.

We had thunderstorms today and torrential rains. I got caught in it when I stopped to get some dinner at Burger King on the way to work. Had to run like hell back to my car and the parking lot was flooded. By the time I got in to work, I was sopping wet from my thighs on down. Threw my shoes and socks in the dryer while I ate my food and then dried my pants with a hair dryer. When I got home tonight I checked the creek. It was running pretty high but I could see debris along the bank about 5 feet higher than the water was so I know it was running really high earlier when the rain was so heavy. Still about 8 feet below the retaining wall so that is good. Lots of flash flood warnings all over San Diego and Los Angeles. Supposed to stop raining by morning.

I still need to get my roof checked where the leak is in the porch. Looks like it is right between where the house and porch are connected.

Beth, I like that rock sculpture!

Good Morning, I too loved those rock sculptures when I visited Benson SKP park. They look impossible to stay up!

My new diet is from the Mayo Clinic web site. As all my diets have failed in the past several years, we will see how this one works.

Loved the heavy rain, thunder and lightning we got over the past two days. Benji would not, absolutely not, go out in the rain! Valerie said to force him. That I cannot do, so put the pee pads down which he used!

I am on both the srarins and fosamax...we can continue to compare our health issues. I went off the statins awhile back and mt cholesterols shot up sky high. (Damn spel check). STatins

I will get back to my water jogging today in the sunshine!!!

Lynn, Fosamax side effects caused my hip and jaw pain. It's a common side effect. And one reason I won't take osteoporosis meds again. Another was mentioned to me last year... Love the internet as it can have the same side effects. Oh, and Fosamax isn't what it was originally cracked up to be. Just saying. It's the drug that really started me researching better and arguing with doctors.
