And there was a metal sign in the window of one of the shops that I still think about and kinda wish I had opened my wallet for. Something about fairies running amok in the garden. But with Nikki’s encouragement I did give a certain cast iron dragon a home......

And for the travel report.......I have cleared most of the PA mountains and their icy winter conditions without ending up along the side of the road. As we drop down out of the mountains heading towards flat, rolling Northeaster Ohio the temperatures are climbing into the high 30’s and hopefully beyond.

Hey, I still have Other Sharon’s phone number. Missed getting to stop and visit but felt better facing the elements knowing it was there!

Hopefully we'll be going tomorrow. My friend called shortly after I did that post and isn't feeling up to par. We shall see. It's a beautiful day and Ty and I just did a good hike... Lots of uphill challenging my asthma, but I took my time and enjoyed.

It's kind of overcast here but still 71. It's suppose to be even warmer tomorrow. If it warms up I'm sure it's going to rain again. So far I have resisted going shopping. About the only thing I saw on sale yesterday that would have tempted me was $5 off cat litter at Tractor Supply. lol

About the only thing I have done today was fix one of the cat trees the cats were about to knock down and move a picture that was close to it before the cats knocked it down. I am still shelling pecans. I told my camping group I would make pralines for the next campout.

Some of the stores in Natchitoches had the cute signs for sale. I liked the one that said "We don't have a camp drunk so we all take turns." lol I had gotten Harold a sign about never bing wrong. Another thing I don't know what happened to it. I had this poem on the wall in my old kitchen. It's not my place to run the train, the whistle I can't blow. It's not my place to say how far the trains allowed to go. It's not my place to shoot off steam or even clang the bell. But let the damn train jump the track and see who catches hell.

Woke up late to some sunshine today, but it will not last long. I have been having problems staying warm in the rainy 50 degree daytime temps and 35-40 degree nighttime temps, even with both of my small electric heaters going. (I use two small heaters instead of one larger one because of how my motorhome is set up.) Anyway, one of the two is really, really old, and I mostly have kept it stored underneath for years. Both are noisy.

It bothers me to run these all night, but I just use too much propane otherwise--last tank lasted only 12 days. So, I did some online looking and found one that was small and supposedly less noisy, plus had an extra safety feature. If it gets too hot, it turns itself off. So I ordered it and it arrived on Friday--yea! It puts out more heat than the old one even at the 700 watt setting, so I was finally warm yesterday. Hopped onto Amazon and ordered another one that will arrive Tuesday!! Will toss or give away both of the older ones.

I also dug around in my basement storage last Wednesday when I had my slides in and was out and about, and found my winter coat. Been wearing a sweatshirt and a thin nylon jacket that is good enough for most places I go, but definitely not warm enough for Oregon in Winter! Even found some gloves in my pocket.

I saw a urologist last week about my kidney stone issues, and am scheduled for surgery next Thursday afternoon. Will spend the night in the hospital but home on Friday. Will need a few days to recover, so am getting laundry done tomorrow and will stock up on anything else on Tuesday. I have been having occasional blood in my urine since late August, but no pain. One big stone is lodged in my kidney, but another one has been sitting in my ureter, near my bladder, but not moving. Usually, these pass when they get so far down, but last cat scan showed it in same place and kidney swollen, so time to get it out. Not going to be fun.

Judy, hope your surgery goes well.

Would you post the kind of heater you like. My motorhome and the old one have a heat strip in the air conditioner. That is about the only heat I ever use. They are kind of noisy but not any more that the air conditioning. Heat strips can be added to some air conditioners. It makes me nervous to run one of the electric heaters all night. It's not often I camp when it's below 40 and then it helps to have a small heater too.

A lot of the newer heaters have more safety features. My old one only had a button the bottom to turn it off if it tips over, but I like the overheating feature on the newer ones. This one also has a thermostat. (One thing I did not want was one that rotates.) I also like the carrying handle because I keep dropping the old ones. I will use both of the two I bought since it is so cold here. When I get to a warmer place, I will store the second one.

A GOOD quality heater is essential here in Oregon. I have 2 heaters also in my RV. I usually only run 1 at night as I dont mind it cooler and I have an elec blanket I use. Also a down comforter stored under the bed in case no electric. I dont like the towers that rotate either, I feel like they blow lots of cold air LOL I also have an oil filled radiant heater but I have it here in the house right now.

We didnt have much rain today and only occasional sun but that suits me just fine. Probably have to sneak to the grocery store tomorrow, I hate to go out with this cold (I dont want to give it to anyone, or get worse) so will probably just run up to the local store here. Much more expensive of course but would cost me as much to run to Medford.

I love my small tower that rotates. To each their own but it warms my rig up wonderfully. I don't use it overnight... Set the gas furnace around 50 degrees. By having it so low, I don't use a ton of propane and I sleep better. I used to use 2 comforters (not down, non-allergenic) but since I put a quilt on the bed which isn't as warm... I now have two quilts and when it's really cold toss a comforter on top.

I have to admit, I was really chilly even during the day before I got the new heater. I did not want to run out of propane and have to go out and get it refilled--mostly lazy and my cheapness coming out. Now, however, the new one has really been putting out the heat and I feel comfortable, even going around in shorts indoors!

I put one in front, focused on my recliner, and put the second one next to the stove and face it towards the back. I find I am using the rear furnace a lot less in the back, Last night, I just aimed the new one towards the back, and set the front furnace at only 60 degrees. Was warm in bed, so happy with new one.

A single large heater would not work well for me because it would not reach the back of my unit.

I have the oil filled radiant heater for the RV (and a second one for my office). I like them because they don't kick on and off and are silent. I will give up a little more floor space for the heat and comfort they give off. Because my rig is smaller I put it in the front area and it keeps the back just right for sleeping while the propane doesn't have to work very hard to make the front area comfortable in the morning..... The windows in the back bed area all have insulation on them except for two areas where I can weather permitting open the windows and create a nice cross ventilation. The back stays cooler in the heat and warmer when it is cold.....

just got to thinking while reading this again. Since you will be there several months
why don't you talk to a propane company about setting up a larger tank on site and then they will come fill as needed...not sure how it works with a motor home but know that it does as I see it all the time... I have a larger one at my daughter's home that I use in the summer

I thought of that, Sheila, but most of the people who have those are trailers, which are stationary, and they have trucks that they drive. I do not own a car, so I either take Uber or I unhook and drive off. That would mean I would have to unhook the propane and I am not sure i want to do that. So, if I have to go out and fill propane every couple of weeks, I can live with that for now.

I'll only be here a couple of months more--hoping to be out of here on January 31, maybe flying out to see my kids in Ohio, leaving rig in airport. If not flying out to Ohio, I'll head south to California to see those kids and stay in my favorite COE campground for a couple of weeks before I have to come back here for a monthly checkup in late February.

I went out on Wednesday and stocked up on stuff, and am going out again on this coming Tuesday. Otherwise, will probably not go out until the following week as I am going to have a stent in my bladder until Dec 3. (Had one before, and it was painful, so will not want to move around much for the weekend.)

I am planning on a weekend car rental the following weekend to maybe drive up to Portland for a day.
