A busy day in Mazatlan

Been getting a lot done since we've been here. Had the work on the car done, got it temporary garage up - a tent canopy took the whole RV park to get it up. Got our Internet up and running, ordered Bills new glasses and got a new load of gravel for our RV site. The weather is around 85 but still a little humid. Visiting with lots of friends and otherwise just keeping busy. Been keeping up with the blog about our doings.

Yesterday we were zipping all around the historic part of downtown.
Toight we are going to dinner with friends who live here and listen to our friend Raphael play his guitar and sing and watch people dancing.

I know you’re familiar with Mexico Carol, but the chart below scares me. Mazatlan is in the area they say “Do Not Travel” and the next closest area says “Reconsider Travel.” I hope you’re careful, but realize being careful doesn’t always help. The tourist was robbed of his phone, money and watch and stabbed to death. You do look like Americans which makes you a likely target. Just worried about you and Bill.

Since we left Las Vegas on Oct 22 there have been 12 homicides there. Believe me when I say we are safer here in Mazatlan than in Vegas. As always, don't go looking for trouble.In the ten years we've been wintering here a couple of tourists have died. One drowned another had a heart attack and another died in an accident. The only one killed was buying drugs after midnight in a bad neighborhood.
Of course we could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but that can happen any where. Mazatlan is one of the safest cities in Mexico. It is like every where else use common sense.

I agree on the safety of Mexico. I used to spend a month down there every year and I never felt safer. I was in a small town north of Puerta Vallarta called Bucerias. Cobblestone streets, lots of little shops. Cheap food and right on the beach. I never felt safer. I would walk into town often at night to listen to the music and watch the families strolling the plaza. Never a problem. The town was often filled with federales guarding the banks and cambios (money exchange windows). I sure do miss it havent been there in a while, might have to change that.

We'd be terrified to get out of our homes if they did those same reports and maps on the U.S.

Looks like, as usual, a great trip in Mexico. I agree Beth, our reports and maps would be scary if they were honestly done.
