2nd day of November

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

2nd day of November

Postby Othersharon » Fri Nov 02, 2018 11:36 am

Just a bit after noon here on the east coast. I actually said rabbits yesterday since I was still up at midnight! It’s another wet and gloomy day today plus high winds. It’s sure blowing around the leaves that finally started to fall within the last couple of days. Seems like all of a sudden the trees went from green to yellow around my house. Guess what I’ll be doing the next sunny day. I think the weather is finally trying to catch up to the calendar! I finally got Lola winterized yesterday but we decided to hope for a couple of dry days to cover her. Much to wet right now.
Glad the tree is finally gone, Barbie. You may get more hot sun but at least you won’t have it come down on your house. Lots of movement toward the warmer and sunnier parts of the country. And Carol and Bill have started their journey to Mexico. Look forward to seeing your blog, Carol. Martha, was sorry to hear about your kitty’s leg. And Tina, glad the pup’s paw is finally on the mend.
So not much else happening here right now. Just trying to keep up with everything that always needs done around the house. And dreaming about spring! Have a great day and travel safe!

Good Morning from sunny San Diego! The movie I saw yesterday was “A Star Was Born”. This is the fourth remake of the same movie! I had not seen the first three, however, knew the story. When the first movie came out, in 1937, there was much speculation if it was a biography of a Hollywood couple. Nothing was ever proven, however, the most suspected couple were Barbara Stanwick and her husband, whose name I do not remember.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Acting was excellent. I would have liked more duet singing, as their voices were beautiful together. I would have liked to have heard more of her piano playing as she is a classically trained pianist. I have been fascinated with Lady Gaga as I think she has a beautiful singing voice.
The sound track blasted when the music played, I had to cover my ears to hear!

The passport card is new just this year. For info go to google to get info.

Wet and Chilly. Wet and Chilly. And repeat. The dogs go out. The dogs come in. I get some work done. Staying as dry and warm as I can. This is definitely layer weather for me plus I have a stack of leggings I bought last winter when I stayed north. Lyn, I haven't been out to see a show for years but that one might be worth it. Our small local theater gets first run shows but charges nice reasonable charges. You can't what them with dogs curled up on your lap but I can sacrifice every once and awhile.

Just got home from work. I rescheduled the appointment with U-Haul for Monday so I could use the time this afternoon to get ready for the carport sale tomorrow.

The little trailer I was interested in up in Fresno was sold last night. :( Back to searching...

It is very warm today! Santa Ana winds must have brought the heat in.

Now that the sun is streaming into my windows in front, I see how dirty they are! Need to do some cleaning on those!

Lyn, I heard that movie is wonderful! I haven't been to a theater in years!

Sharon, if you are already dreaming about spring, it's gonna be a long winter for you!

I want to get a passport card too. Lyn, where did you get your photo taken for that?
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

After posting stuff in members only site and answering emails for 45 minutes this morning, I went back to sleep and got a full 10 hours to make up for my hour-and-a-half sleep the night before because of my migraine headache.

Had to move sites today, so after packing up, I went out to mall and got rest of stuff for Christmas for Ohio grandkids. Found a sale on sleepware for girls at Justice for Girls, which is the hot place for preteen girls these days, but they run out of sizes fast, so decided to get everything early. Good success with that and jogging pants and top for 12-year-old boy for sleeping. He now wears a men's medium and does not like pajamas, but I was successful at Penney's. Plus got myself a sweater and zippered sweatshirt.

Been gaining weight last few days, so I am going to have to be more careful. Not sure what is doing it but irritable bowel disease seems to be better for last month, so maybe that is it. Gained about about 8 pounds of the 15 I lost in the UK--ugh! So set up in new site and relaxing now before getting back to grading some papers. Had an irritating phone conversation this morning with an older student who wants me to explain stuff over the phone instead of reading the stuff I posted. Talk about lazy--he says he makes a good income and just needs a degree to get a promotion, so only wants to do the absolute minimum. He is repeating my class because last semester he miscalculated the grade he needed to pass, and he has done a lot of arguing about how he does not need to know how to write business documents because he has a secretary!!!!! Thinks entire class is useless, which is not a good way to develop rapport with your instructor. I hope they take his secretary away!

Stormy here yesterday and gloomy most of today. Had an off day too, just couldn't get moving. Sun popped out around 3:00 and I did make a trip to put a few more small items out at antique mall.

I haven't been to a movie in more than 20 years. Last two the sound was loud it hurt my ears and I stopped going. Used to really enjoy seeing new movies. Now I just wait and hope they eventually air on TV.

Judy - I was on heavy doses of steroids over a period of months - gained 20 lbs. Not happy about that and it seems doubly difficult to get rid of it.

My new drivers license showed up in todays mail. Sure hope I don't usually look as bad as that photo. Gotta carry it around for 4 years too.

Judy, I think your older argumentative student needs to take a few additional courses on quality communications, listening skills, negotiation skills...... You can probably think of a few more.... oh, but he is a man so he is probably puzzled that you didn’t just roll over in the presence of his great corporate potential and give him his grade.

I went and picked up my cat and went by to visit with my ex-sister-in-law. Have an invitation for Thanksgiving. My sister wants to go on a camping trip to Arkansas for Thanksgiving but I haven't decided that I want to go or not. Already signed up for a campout the weekend before so that would mean that I would be gone over a week.

The cat's leg has a heavy duty bandage on it and it doesn't look like she is messing with it. The vet doesn't want her jumping up and down and suggested shutting her up in a bathroom. I have her in the bathroom and guess where she is, sleeping in the lavatory. I wanted to put her in a big wire dog kennel but the tray is broken. I ordered a new tray and it came in today damaged so it's going back tomorrow. Maybe I can tape up the old tray and it will do until I can get another one.

Lyn, glad you liked the movie. I haven't been to a movie in years. We had a theater shooting near here and that really put me off of going to movies.

Spent the evening getting things ready for the sale tomorrow. Went and bought big balloons to put out front. Not many in the park are participating which is too bad, but I want to make sure no one misses my sale at the end of my dead end street!
Later in the day, they have a big dinner at the clubhouse that I will go to. After that, I have a ticket to see Blair Robertson in Carlsbad. He is a famous psychic medium from Canada. Should be interesting!

Yesterday, I ordered a DNA test from Ancestry.com. It was on sale almost half price so I decided to go for it. Will be interesting to see what it comes up with. Supposedly, I am half Swedish, 1/4 German and 1/4 Bohemian (maybe that is where I get my gypsy spirit!), but also heard once that I may have Irish in me, so I can't wait to find out what I really am!

Lyn, I think you might be thinking of the new Real ID cards that just came out this year in Cali. The passport card can be used just like the Real ID card to prove US citizenship for US flights, but also for traveling by car or boat to Mexico, Canada or the Caribbean.

Martha, I hope your kittys leg heals quickly!

I completely forgot about the effects of the steroids, so thanks for reminding me! I gained four pounds in two days, which is absurd. Luckily, these are not be daily meds, just on those certain days, but they were HUGE doses. Maybe they can give me less next week.

And, you are absolutely right about my older, male student, Tina. I wonder what his secretary would say about working with him? He told me his learning style is to have things explained verbally. I am going to send him a message that before I help him with anything else, that I want evidence that he has read the information I posted. He should have taken an on-ground class with a live teacher if he had wanted personal explanations. And, by the way, I can see how long each student spends viewing each posted item, although I can never be sure he or she is actually reading while viewing.

Also, when I renewed my passport a few years ago, I also got a passport card. I figured it would be a good backup if I lost my drivers license in the U.S. or lost my passport in the U.K. It is not legal outside of Mexico and Canada, but it would at least be government ID showing who I was.
