All Hallows’ Eve

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

All Hallows’ Eve

Postby Colliemom » Wed Oct 31, 2018 7:39 am

Morning everyone. Cloudy here in northern Michigan, but promising to be a nice day in a while. For once, it’s going to be great evening for the trick or treaters. None here, but a lot of things going on in the county for them, from all the township Fire Dept.’s Trunk or Teats, Downtown businessses passing out candy, event under our big pavilion in town to a huge church party. Enough to make everybody get a bag full of goodies and have a good time.

Lots going on on here too after reading the last two days posts. Velda, sounds like you are making progress slow but sure. When you make that trip to MN, how about coming a bit farther to MI or maybe WI and we could have a GTG. Lyn, so glad you are now pain free. Now to enjoy life again. Tina, glad Josef’s foot is on the mend and also, congrats on the #1 ranking. Carol, hope you get your Jeep and other issues taken care of, so you can be on your way. I see Shelia also has a few “bumps in the road” to get settled too. Barb, hopefully today the tree will come down. Don’t remember what all else is going on, but know I thinking about you all.

This looks like it’s going to be the week to wrap things up outside as they say big storm coming next week, which looks like a washout for the whole week. I did get a fence gate shortened up and two small sections of fence repaired yesterday, so that’s done. The last of my leaves are down, so will crank up the blower and get them gone in the next couple days. Want to haul stuff out of my garage and give the garage a good floor sweeping etc., then put stuff back, put things where they belong, not that they really aren’t, but it’s organizing time. Same for shed. Trailer battery is headed for basement as is lawn tractor battery and a few items from the garage for winter. Need to clean house too, but will probably put that off till next werk’s Rainy weather. See I do procrasinate

But right now it’s time to quit jabberi g, hit the he shower and get this day moving forward. Have a great day all and don’t overeat on the Halloween treats

Morning Sue, that black cloud that has been hovering over my head for the last month is still there. Last water test showed bacteria still in well water. Called well driller to come fix the problem. Not the end of the world but will be without water for a few days and of course $$$. Will have to stock up on wine since I can’t drink the water. I hope you all know I am kidding with the wine talk. I do buy box wine because I can have the occasional glass and it lasts a long time in the box. It is a beautiful sunny day so will be fun for the trick or treaters and I am ready for them. Safe travels

BOO!

Mornin' Sue, Shirl & all that follow. Cold front moved in here in Carlsbad, NM with the rain at 3:30 AM. Was a sit around day yesterday after the long day Monday getting some warrenty things fixed on the new trailer & a 4 hour drive to Carlsbad. First drive were there wa s no gas station for 200 miles even tho at least one showed up on maps. That was a worry.

Hoping to get to the caverns today in order to check another NP of the list. May consider the ride thru Guadalupe NP as a 'been there' because if I go back, that would take me back to the no gas station zone.

Have a spooky day and stay safe wherever you are.

Good Morning, The rain started early here, before the dogs were up. It finally feels like fall because the leaves finally turned colors. Not much here other than I need to find a new groomer which is not easy. I was fairly satisfied with the one I've been using but this time Mitzi came home shaved to the skin which was so red DH though she had something on her. She did have some mats on her legs but none on her body! The worst though was one eye was swollen shut and the other barely open. I called the emergency vet, as of course it was after hours and they said it was $170 for me to bring her in but would be $70 if I waited till they opened the next day. They were however nice enough to tell me what to do and what to look for to determine how bad it was. So I used an eye wash and wiped around her eyes with a warm cloth off and on through the night and by morning she was better and no blue showing in the white of her eyes. Blue would have meant eye had damage not just irritation. She is fine now but the groomer has not returned my call and at this point I doubt she will. I was becoming more hesitant about taking them there as they smoke in a back room and the whole place absolutely reeks with the smell. I had to wait one time as Toby wasn't off the table yet and was only able to stand it for 10 minutes before I was unable to speak and had to go outside. I have heard it is illegal to smoke in a grooming place but I guess it isn't enforced. I can go back to grooming the little ones but am I'm just not up to doing a Standard again!

Since the weather forecast was heavy rain for today the city moved the Halloween activities and trick or treating to last night. We usually don't have but maybe 5 or 6 if any, but last night we had close to 25! The majority came after the cut off time when I had already turned off my porch light. They were a group of neighborhood kids so I really didn't mind. Some had really cute costumes but seems like they are all in a rush so you barely have time to check them out.

Shirlv sure hope you can get your water situation fixed soon!!

Good morning to all. Well things are looking up around here. The TV continues to work. ON my laptop I can connect to our TV at home and watch Vegas local channels. It is supposed to work in Mexico - we'll see. We got the Jeep back yesterday afternoon. A simple and not to expensive fix. Crank sensor the old one was very gummed up. $160. And sometime this morning the man with the motor for the jacks should be here. Going to do one load of wash, sort our paperwork and well be ready to leave. Went to dinner again last night to check out how the car was running. Same restaurant and I had the turkey dinner again. It was delicious this time. Yum. I have my weird cactus plant with me so have to figure out where to put it so I can get it back into Mexico, bought it there last year. Didn't want to leave it at home.
Other than that just last minute preps to cross the border.
Weather here and south looks good, no rain or wind in forecast.
Hope everyone has a great day.

I have a long to-do list... It's not getting shorter as I sit on my couch. :) Carol, I'm glad the Jeep fix wasn't major and I hope the jacks are finished today. BJ, I had a bad experience with a groomer at a vet years ago when all I wanted was a bath and I specified no razors or scissors to be used at ALL... And for no reason my Eskie had her belly and chest shaved. And it must have been traumatic because she would become very agitated if we even drove past there after that. This was double bad because she loved snow and winter and it was over two years before she could really spend outside time in the cold. I don't know how you paid, but if you used a credit card, I'd refute the charges.

Shirl, yikes about your water.

I think Ty is part cat... He looks for a sunny corner to curl up.

I need to start being productive. Ha.

I went out to feed the outside cats this morning and found one with a broken leg. I brought her to the vet and she needs surgery, can't just be splinted. The vet informed me that he doesn't do surgery anymore so I'm waiting to see where I can bring her. I wish I had just gone straight to the emergency clinic with her. I foresee another house cat, at least for a while. If it's not one thing it's 10 others.

We have bad weather coming and it's already getting windy.

Shirl, just wondering if you put wine in your water would it kill the bacteria? I have yet to fine a box of Moscato which is what I like. I finished a bottle of dry red wine last night which a friend brought back from France. I didn't like it but it was expensive wine so I didn't want to pour it out. I mixed it with cranberry or grape juice. I'm a real connoisseur.

BJ, hope you can find a new, better groomer. I have heard such horror stories about things that have happened at a groomer. Getting a dog that had to be groomed would be my number one decision to not get that breed. Years ago when I wanted to get a dog for my son, he wanted a poodle but I got him a boston terrier.

Cheryl, if you are going through the caverns I hope you are in better shape than I was the last time I went through. My motorhome has a 55 gallon gas tank so I can go 500 miles on a full tank. The bad thing is that it's sometimes a shock  at the gas pump if I let it get low.

Martha, I like how you think. It might not kill the bacteria but if I drink enough I won’t care. :D It would be less expensive too, I just bought 6 gal. of water.

Morning gone, just stopping by to say HI.
Storms moving in here later today/overnight so I need to get a few errands taken care of this afternoon.
I must have missed a post, Tina. What happened to Joseph's foot?
Sharing a neat music video before I get off here. Will post it in the General section. Think you will enjoy.

Well here is south central TX (near San Antonio) weather report. ‘They’ say no rain until 8 or so this evening. But ‘they’ have been know to be untruthful....it rained about 5:30 a.m. for a bit.... trick or treaters should be dry! I drove by the Canyon Lake dam today and they are no longer letting out copious amounts of water. Just the normal release, 3 chutes full bore. The Potters Creek Campground reopened Tuesday. I will move out there tomorrow after I get the rest of my step repairs completed tomorrow. I have been a bit lazy getting papers shredded and pitched. Have a bunch more to do. Need to figure out what to do about my bird books. When I put them in storage, I was still using some of them and I would switch them back and forth....some in storage for winter as they were most useful in Spring and Summer....then back out and vice versa. Now I am at a point of saying I probably don’t need to research Southern or Northern Calif birds to the tune of those books. British Columbia, probably no going back there. So anyone interested in some bird books for areas, or just habitat books, or ID books, or migration, or anything you have an interest in. I will check for a books. Okay, time to start the breakdown process so I can be ready to pull out in the morning.

Sorry you lost your shade, but better than losing your home! And I love that chunk of wood. Can you varnish it and make a small table? Would need some really sturdy legs. Are there any branches left over that might be a couple of inches in diameter?

Cold and drizzly today and rest of week, so it will be indoor time.

I am going to try to find someone who can cut that piece in half (from 4 inches thick to 2 inches thick) so I have two lighter pieces. Am thinking I could make two small tables out of them that way.

There is an ugly half dead bush that was behind the tree that is very visible now that I would like to get rid of so will probably get my handyman to remove it for me. It isn't very big but is very overgrown and ugly.

I got asked out today by a guy who is maybe 19 or 20! Ha! I don't plan to actually go out with him but was kind of flattered that he asked.

My roommate has some milkweed plants and found a good sized caterpillar on it the other day. We have it in a mesh cage now and it is just getting ready to make it's chrysalis now. So exciting to raise a monarch butterfly! There are several other very tiny caterpillars still on the plants outside so there will be more butterflies in the near future! I want to get more plants and my own enclosure. Hers is not very user-friendly.

Martha, I hope your kitty gets better soon! Poor thing! I wonder how that happened?

BJ, so sorry about what happened to your dog at the groomers. They need to be held responsible! That is inexcusable!

Don't forget to say "rabbits" tonight or early tomorrow! Probably after midnight already for most of you, tho.

Good night!

Sue, my first big trip east will be on a time limited schedule as disabled son will be here alone with the cats and bird and himself to care for. In past, when Mel and I took off for a few weeks, at least one of us could fly home if needed. Now it will be just me, as you know. So it will be beat feet (err roll tires) for Mn for sons graduation, then south to sister in laws if all still ok at home, then head home stopping over night at two friends and only as necessary. So I won't be going further east. All depends on cost of fuel by then too.
