Last Monday of October

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Last Monday of October

Postby Colliemom » Mon Oct 29, 2018 7:04 am

Good Morning on this last Monday of the 10th month of the year. Halloween is two days away and then it’s off to the Holiday season again.

Shirl, I hear ya on keeping this forum alive. It’s why I post too. When I first joined it was a really active bunch, full of RVing tales, questions from newbies etc. like me, looking for their first RV or having recently just bought one, pictures of places and things etc. Over the years it seems like RV’s aren’t talked about as much, newbies aren’t asking wuestions or hanging around either. I’ve noticed that GTG’s are even getting to be non exisistent other than a mini one here and there. See the current one coming up at Hardee Lakes in FL next year only has 4 posts. Q is always a biggie too, but that’s about it. You gals in OR manage to keep em going on a small scale. There are a number of us, capable of hitting the road even if it’s just in our home states, but can’t seem to get motivated to get going. Life gets in the way and social media has taken away from here as well. Times change, we get older, hang up the keys and other interests come along too. In the case of those of us in the north, we are parked for the winter. But don’t think I’m not waiting for the reservation window to get along a bit Father, so I can make reservations for summer. MI is getting a total overhaul in it’s online reservation system and it will be up and running Nov. 5th. I’ll be running around MI next year, so come join me anyone.

Enough lamenting. Morning is awakening outside and I have things to do and places to go. Y’all have a nice day.

Good morning Everybody, I hear your lament Sue. I too miss our large gtgs that were hosted by Lori and Doc in PA ,Beth in other places, and the grandmother of all the Meet in the Middle hosted by Catherine when she lived in Kansas. Don't know why that stopped.
My Roadtrek has been sitting for eight months, but this week I will take it around to various service centers to get it ready for my trip to the Southwest. I want to stay in CT until I vote on the 6th and then I'll start. I plan to be in Quartzite in January. Hope to see a lot of you there. Enjoy today. Peggy

There were more members active "back in the day" and there were more members willing to drive longer distances. Sharon will always be famous to me for her comment about her planning to come to the Nashville GTG, "Its only another 500 miles!" And there were members willing to just pick a spot and some dates and put it out there. Catherine was a new member at the time she set up the wonderful Kansas adventure and we came! Florida works now because so many are already there. Q works because IT is always there. Don't have to worry about getting a space or what dates.

At least for those that are still wanting to travel we have a net work of friends and acquaintances to visit and bump into around where ever the road might take us. That is not to be taken lightly. As I think I may have mentioned before, those big GTG'ers gave me a reason to set out on the road beyond my initial comfort zone. I learned that if you connect enough days together you can arrive most every where. So there are still traveling opportunities out there if you really want them but you might have to catch up with Cheryl out west or make it out west to Q. If folks don't want to or can't drive too far, at least here on the forum, the coffee stays warm, the campfire stays tended, the wine is always available and stories of all sorts can still be shared.

PS: Josef's foot continues to heal slowly. Between keeping it wrapped to prevent further damage and the laser treatment he may eventually get to throw his "cone of destruction" away. My legs are covered with small bruises from his bumping into me. His entries for the Orlando shows in December are in and our reservations are made. This is a non RV trip for us. I refuse to pay the kind of money they get for parking in a huge asphalt parking lot. Cindy and I will stay are a Red Roof or a Red Roof want to be. If anyone want to join us for a day be sure to come with another responsible adult. Those vendor booth are dangerous to wander through without supervision. All the stuff you didn't know you or your dog needed. And then there are the activities to watch. Besides the conformation shows, there are also performance events: agility, obedience, dock diving...... and thousands of beautiful dogs......

Good morning gals! :D I've been enjoying the company of my new lap cat, Lola, here this morning! She sure has gotten more sweet and affectionate lately. Love it!

I also miss so many of those who have left us for FB. But we still have a nice group here! Maybe the lurkers can chime in more often!

Another beautiful day in SoCal! However, the Santa Ana winds will be picking up here tomorrow night thru Wednesday. I am a bit nervous about that with the pine tree. The manager told me this morning that he has a new company (the one who took the trees out of the creek last year) coming on Wednesday to remove the tree. Finally!

I discovered that the trailer wiring on my Jeep is a 4 pin, not a 7 pin, so before I can even think about buying a trailer, I need to get that upgraded. I found a great little trailer up in Fresno but will most likely be gone before I can get this done. Will see...

My roommate has several milkweed plants outside and yesterday discovered a nice sized caterpillar, so he is now in his new mesh tent in the house munching on milkweed leaves and hopefully will form a chrysalis soon!

Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning
Just trying to get stuff done to be ready to roll week from Wednesday. Got the sail switch for the furnace, then got busy to do the swap but I needed a special very tiny tool. That was a disappointment so decided a nap was in order, lol. Woke up remembering the very tiny adjustable wrench my dad gave me when I was there. Thank you dad !! I will attempt the swap again this evening.
Peggy,,, will be nice to see you again in January.
Back to work now, y'all have a great day.
Edited to add,,,,Barbie, uhaul can swap the plug

I brought Hank to the vet this afternoon. He has been having trouble walking the past week. It's something that came on fast it seems like. He was stumbling on his front feet. The vet thinks it might be a disk or arthritis. He is very sensitive in one leg and shoulder. His kennel in his pen is about 14 inches off the ground so I need to either find him a step or take it down. Harold had a frame built for the kennel so if I take it down the frame is in the way and it's welded on. It's always something. I can't get in and out of the vet office without Hank peeing in the floor. This time he didn't pee, he pooped on the scale.

Ava, hope you can get your furnace working. The furnace in 2 of my previous motorhomes never worked. Or it would come on once and the next time it came on it would only blow cold air. I gave up on trying to get them fixed. I haven't tried the furnace in the new motorhome but I have a heat strip in the air conditioner. If it's cold enough to need the furnace I'll probably just stay home.

It's not morning, but I'm here. Day by day getting rid of 42 years of stuff! I do hope to get out in my van in the new year, but feel I need to get a lot more done in this 3000 sq house and 900 sf garage plus 3/4 acre yard before I can plan much. I do plan to drive to MN in my van next August when our son graduates in Law Enforcement and make a swing south to visis Mel's sister in Wichita before heading west to see several friends on way home. Son here plans to hold down the fort and care for the critters. I hope I'll catch some of you along the way. I will need, after first of year, once my $$ begins coming in, to take van for several much needed maintenance and maybe some upgrades. Might need new house batteries by then as they will be starting their 10 th year, maintained by my 180 w solar on roof. They were pricey AGMs and have proved their worth. Before August I hope to get out with a local Women's Rv group at least once and maybe with a Military RV group who have invited me. new year, new life plans as I remake our future and follow dreams we shared, though now alone or with son.
Hope all have a good week. I'll try to stop by more. I just don't see myself ready for Q yet, though I wish I could.

Just got back from a late lunch with Karen (oregonlvr) at Red Lobster. I am staying the night at the Medford Expo aka Southern Oregon Campground on my way to Eugene. This is a very new campground next to the fairgrounds, but with paved sites, full hookup, and nice grass and landscaping between sites--a good place to stay for a day or so.

Facebook has taken a lot of our members, but some of us are getting old, so we need to recruit some newer and younger members. Maybe we need a GTG that we also post for women only on Facebook or another site.

So, speaking of GTGs, how about Bullards Beach State Park near Bandon, Oregon, next spring or summer. Bandon is a very nice little harbor town with nice shops and a harbor walk with lots of art. I'll check on availability and open a GTG post in a few days.

Ava, do you still have that little trailer you bought from me for collecting rocks?

I got a quote from the guy I talked to about upgrading the wiring on my Jeep. He said the part will cost $200 plus $150 for labor. :o I found the part on Amazon for $12 (yes, twelve!). I have an appointment with U-Haul on Wednesday to see what they say about installing it.

Lyn, I am cheering for you here in Ohio. So glad that you found something that worked and got through the tough times. It will making your travels this winter (and trips to the library) much more enjoyable!

Barbara you should be able to find an adapter to go from 4-flat to ?-round at many RV stores. No need for rewiring. You might need to have wiring for brakes if you don’t already have a brake controller. But before you have brakes done, look yourself for a ‘molex’ type connector just sitting under the dash area with wires coming and going through it. If you have that you only need to plug the controller into that. As you well know from your past experience driving to MN to CA, there are folks out there that will see you enough parts to make a new trailer. Good luck.
