Monday, Monday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Monday, Monday

Postby BarbaraRose » Mon Oct 22, 2018 12:40 pm

Good morning (afternoon for those out east). :D

Just talked to the park manager and he is still waiting to hear back from the tree trimmers about taking down my pine tree. Hurry up and wait...! Then ran into the new HOA president and his wife. They are super nice people!

Plan for today is to clean and declutter the house and do laundry. Way behind on that. First I need to run to the bank and Walmart. Then maybe tomorrow will go up to Julian.

Hoping you all have a great day!

You beat me by a minute, Barbie, so I am moving my post to here. It is chilly here in Napa, and I am waiting to get picked up by Hertz for a rental car. It's only about a half-mile away, but I have no energy for a morning hike!

Going to run some errands and do a little shopping while I am close to things. Otherwise, not much going on. I don't know if I posted this, but a couple of weeks ago I weighed my RV in one of those Oregon weigh stations along a two-lane road where they are closed but leave the scales on. Anyway, rear of my rig was 800 pounds overweight and front was 600 pounds light, so I spent a couple of hours yesterday vacuuming out some basement pass-throughs and moving heavy stuff to the front and light stuff to the rear. I had stuff organized by how often i used it and had put stuff I used more often in the front, but need to consider other things now. I also gave away my mat to my son because I have not used it in two years!! Tossed out some just-plain-junk I had accumulated. Anyway, still need to go through some stuff on the other side, but got the one side bins sorted, at least.

The biggest contributor to the rear weight is my bike and the bike rack, but I can't do anything about that. What is misleading is that I have lots of storage space but can't use it because of weight limits!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Good afternoon
Been a while since I checked in. Really not much interesting going on in my world lately. Seems I spent most of summer dealing with allergies and other health issues.
Finally feeling a bit better. Started the massive project of cleaning/reorganizing a big garage which I mainly use as a warehouse for my poor antiques business. Found enough forgotten treasures to do some major rework on antique mall booths. Now I'm trying to get them done before holiday open houses start.
It has suddenly turned cold here in north AL so I need to work in some time to add antifreeze to traps and tanks in Magic. Also need to get appointment to have her serviced.
My van is in shop for the day, maybe tomorrow too as she is getting a major checkup.
The only major handicap in life is a bad attitude!

Judy, I wish I had weighed my old motorhome before I unloaded it. It had to be over weight. I put most of what I unloaded in the old house and will just see what I need. I need to put out a table of stuff at the campouts with a sign that says "Free to a new home." lol

I got home from the lake yesterday about 4:00 and spent 2 hours unloading the motorhome so I could bring it to the shop this morning. There were 18 women at the campout. This was our 3rd annual Halloween campout. We had a great time even though it rained and was messy most of Saturday. The campground let us use one of the cabins for our potluck. It finally cleared up so we could have a campfire. Friday night it was too hot for a fire so one of the ladies wrapped a string of lights around the firewood for our fire. lol My sister and I fished a couple of times. The fish lucked out, I was not cleaning fish.

I hate to have to set an alarm to get up but made it to the shop. I need to practice towing my car so I don't have to ask my son for a ride home.

Another day here in Ohio tending to Josef's foot. Ran errands and later Lark and Audrey and I will go to class and practice paying attention and behaving. Judy, I have always tries to warn first time RV buyers about deceptive storage spaces. I had a rig once that had so few that I didn't worry about what went into outside storage but I had to always think about where tanks were and where heavy inside stuff was located. I now have adequate outside storage, especially in the back, that is big enough to be useful but remind myself to throw the x-pens and lighter chairs back there sometimes and I bring the heavier dog crates and grooming table inside so I can distribute the weight better.

Thanks for joining the conversation Sarah. Progress is progress, I think as we get older we need to be kind to ourselves and give us credit when ever we keep heading in the right direction. We should just throw out the measures we used 20 years ago.....

I heard somewhere that the fall colors here in Ohio were about 2 weeks behind because we had such warm weather for so long. The temps on the last few days are suppose to do the trick and tell the trees, "It's time!" I'll still be here to watch them change.

And, yes, Martha. Practice towing that car, other than evaluating corners and parking lots more thoroughly, it really is pretty darn easy. There is a reason folks do it and they can't all be super talented. It is a learnable skill. I imagine that you have driven much more challenging vehicle combinations in the course of the farm and horse show life. Go for it! Like we often say, start with the large empty parking lot.

Martha, my cousin and his wife lived full time in a 36' Class A for 12 years, and then they bought a used but in really good condition 44' Class A. I asked them how long it took to move and what they found that they didn't know they had. They are both really organized and did not find much, BUT they parked the two vehicles door-to-door and it still took them a full seven days to transfer stuff from one to another, even with help from friends!! At least they had lots of cargo carrying capacity in both of their vehicles, but they have a lot of tools and things like turkey roasters that I do not carry.

I have suspected I was close to my weight limit, so I never drive with anything in my black or grey tanks, and I also usually carry less than a quarter of a tank of fresh water when I travel. Because I am so on the edge of running out on a long day, I keep a gallon jug filled with water for emergency flushes along the way.

I really like the floorplan of my C and the ease of reaching the pedals and things while I drive, but I almost wish I had bought a small Class A just so I would not have to worry about the cargo capacity. I did test drive an A, but I wanted more sleeping capacity for grandkids, and also because I am only 5'1" tall, I would have had to have pedal extenders added and would have had problems reaching things like sun visors. I could not see myself driving down the road with a grabber in one hand!

Tina, I figured you were already pretty good at paying attention, altho maybe not behaving too well. Good luck with the class!

Martha, didn't you get a Mazda Miata with that camper? Do you still have that? That should be really easy to tow since it is so small. I guess it is just a matter of learning to hook it up and unhook.

Went looking at new small trailers today but out of my price range. Will keep looking. I really want to start camping again.

Yes, I still have the car. I towed it home and unhooked it. I'm just not sure about hooking it up again and getting it right. The way they have started building gas stations it's hard to find one to get in and out of without a car. And worrying about getting into somewhere I couldn't get out of. I just like to worry. lol

I was going to mow some this afternoon and the darn mower wouldn't start. We are suppose to get a lot of rain tomorrow and Wednesday. If I can't get it started I don't know how I can get it on a trailer to bring it in.
