A Fall Sunday

Postby Colliemom » Sun Oct 07, 2018 10:51 am

Good Morning. Or at least what’s left of morning. Another cloudy day here. Bit of misty rain for a bit, but has since stopped. Fall color here is getting really pretty, but we need for the crazy rains to stop. Misty stuff isn’t good for viewing vistas. Bright cloudy days are really the best for color viewing as sunlight diffuses the leaves and washes out the color brilliance. If it brightens up later, I might go “leaf peeping” as we call it, when one goes looking at fall color.

Did take a ride to Mackinaw City yesterday. Dogs and I did some walking along the water and then I went and browsed the shops as they are having a “shoppers festival” this week in prep for closing down for the season. Stuff is anywhere from 30 to 75% off. The town will shut down all but for the businesss neded to the operation of any town. Restaurants, gas stations, hardware, groceries etc., but the “tourist” shops always close. Same chore Mackinac Island. Just the “islanders”over there. Also stopped by Aloha Stste Park and walked around a bit, looking a campsite decorations as it was Halloweenfest weekend for them. Parks up here will be shutting down bathrooms and water within the next couple weeks, so time for Halloweenfests before then. Fall fun for the campers.

I still need to wash and cover my trailer yet. Waiting for that decent day to do it. Don’t really want to cover it up while it’s dirty or wet and want to unroll the awning to make sure it’s dry as well. Once it’s covered, that will stay dry from there on.

But right now it’s time for some lunch. Have a nice day and safe travels to those on the road.

Hello Tina and Everybody, it's way past morning, but I just returned to the hotel in Iquique, Chile, Yes, I'm on my trip to Easter Island. The tour started with a week in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile and now we are at the seaside city of Iquique.
Birdie, I was thinking of you when we were at the Laguna de Chaxa looking at flamingos. We saw lots of Chilean flamingos and a few Andean flamingos. Two more nights on the mainland and then we fly to Rapa Nui. Enjoy the rest of today. Peggy

Well Tina, I stopped at a meat market and picked up BBQ. lol There is a meat market near the campground I was at so I picked up lunches for me and my son. I only pass a few blocks from where he lives.

I got back from my campout about noon. It's nice to only have to drive about 50 miles instead of hundreds of miles. We had a great weekend. There were 47 signed up but a few didn't show up. When you get that many women in one big room it sure get noisy. We had a cajun band for about an hour last night. It was 4 high school kids but they were great. It's good to see that the cajun traditions are being passed on.

It rained 2 inches while I was gone. Guess it will be another week before I can mow. I keep hearing rumors of a cold front but it hasn't made it here yet. I have another campout in two weeks so maybe it will be cooler by then.

Peggy, have a good trip.

Just arrived in Eugene after driving in from Haystack Campground, north of Bend, OR. I was trying to save money and get more used to dry camping so I signed up for three nights here----really bad idea! Why? It was rainy and really cold the whole time, and then on the last day, Saturday, my generator quit on me about midday. Had to completely rethink how to fix dinner using an actual stove.

I imagine most of you were alive in the olden days before microwaves, but they certainly do make our lives easy, especially when it comes to heating up meals. I cook a lot ahead and at any one time have several little one-meal packages for dinner. Had to open a can of soup and heat it in an actual pan, instead of in a cup in the microwave.

Plus, it dropped down to 39 on Friday night and 35 on Saturday night, so even with my down comforter on my bed, my furnaces were running like crazy, and I was constantly recharging my laptop and modems using my 12 volt outlets, which meant switching them around constantly. And had to go cold turkey on TV. Talk about roughing it! But at least I was fairly warm with my sweater on. There was a family with two kids across from me sleeping in a tent, and the father admitted it was the coldest they had ever camped. They had driven down from Vancouver, BC, to go rock climbing at a place they have gone to before, but you cannot do rock climbing in the rain, at least not with two kids under 11. They were still there this morning when I pulled out early.

Peggy, I am really envious of you. What a dream trip!

Sandi and I had another fun day exploring today. We are still at a campground in Redding. Drove out to Whiskeytown Lake and French Gulch to see the devastation from the Carr fire. It is absolutely so widespread it is unbelievable. Had some lunch and then walked across the Sundial Bridge and visited Turtle Bay walking trails and Gift shop. Ended our day with a Starbucks treat and sat outside in the sunshine with the pups after a long walk.

Anne, no problem. I know what it is like when you are on a mission. If you come up to K Falls again and have time I would definitely be up for a visit but dont worry about it if you dont have time I totally understand.

Will be heading home on Tuesday, back to reality. This has been a great getaway and great company and perfect weather.
