Another cloudy Tuesday

Morning y’all. Another cloudy and looking to be a bit wet day here again. Guess I get to join the ranks of the broken record with the rain folks. It has been more cloudy and damp, but light rain showers on and off. Going to ruin the fall color show. Am hoping Thursdays forecast of Partly cloudy pans out, so I can get my trailer winterized, washed and covered up or at last winterized if nothing else for now.

Enjoyed the poetry yesterday. The mentione of Robert Frost brought back a verse from his “Stopping by The Snowy Woods” that was printed in my high school class year book, the year we graduated and I think of it often.

“The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep.
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”

And as I get older, I look back on all those “miles” in my life, the hills and the mountains, the bumps, patches of rough road, the long smooth stretches on the road which is the journey of life, and am grateful to have come this far, and to hopefully be able to travel more miles before I sleep.

Looks like I won't be able to hit the road tomorrow... Too windy. Instead I'll probably be in the rain on Thursday. At least it's going to be very nice today so I'll get everything ready. And if I have more store stuff to do, no need to rush it.

Over cast and cool, but no rain so far here in downtown. I’m lovin the poems several are quoting on our forum. And Sue, like you I am hoping for more traveling in my little trailer. Every morning when I wake I am grateful for another day.

We received our sample ballot. As Election Day is not until Nov 6th, it gives me plenty of time to study it and make sure I know what I am voting for. I do not pay any attention to the TV sound bites. (Our TV is hardly ever on.)

CC finally finished his nap and my arm woke up so I can post. lol That is one spoiled cat. Now he's aggravating Annie.

My hummingbirds are back. I saw about 6 going around the feeder like a merry-go-round. There is room for all of them if they would just stop fighting. I was afraid they had moved on since my feeder went dry while I was gone.

I need to find the email about my monthly club meeting because I think it's tonight. It has been on the first Wednesday for a few years and it was changed to first Tuesday. I'm glad I thought about it because I was going to the grocery store and I would have had to made two trips to town.

I'm not much of a gardener but I saw something about putting Epsom Salt on plants so about a month ago I put 2 tablespoons on the plants on the porch and my rose bushes. The plants perked right up and the roses are blooming like crazy. I have some kind of plant that didn't bloom at all last year and it started blooming.

It's sunny and 90 today. No rain on the radar so hope that doesn't change.

I decided that I need a beach fix today to perk me up a little. Beaches in Encinitas will probably be a little quiet since the shark attack on that young boy the other day. All the beaches were closed to swimmers and surfers from Carlsbad to Encinitas until today or tomorrow. I just want to walk along the beach tho.

Beth, I imagine you are feeling a little bittersweet about leaving Keystone since you are not planning to go back next year. Time for a new adventure next summer! Safe travels to where ever you are heading this week!

Martha, that is a good tip about the Epsom salt. Will have to try that on my rose bushes.

I had the memorable opportunity to go to a poetry reading by Robert Frost when I was a student at the U of Michigan. It was about in 1962, just a year before he died. Did you know he taught at the University of Michigan from 1921-1927 and wrote much of his poetry there? The university appointed him as their first Fellow in Creative Arts, so he lived in Ann Arbor during those years, receiving a stipend of $5,000 per 8-month academic year. http://michigantoday.umich.edu/a7771/

He received a Lifetime in Letters appointment from the University, and Henry Ford later bought and relocated the home he had lived in during those years to Greenfield Village, which is part of the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. (If you have never been to Detroit, the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village should be at the top of your list, followed by the Detroit Institute of Arts and a drive around Belle Isle. I remember him talking about "Tree at my window, window tree...." that he wrote from that house.

I also attended a poetry reading and lecture by Will Geer, who was Grandpa Walton, and a great Shakespearean actor in his younger days. He directed the Professional Theatre program at the university during the 60s. I was sitting in the front row of a nearly empty lecture room, and he walked over and gave the "Get thee to a nunnery" speech from Hamlet standing directly in front of me. He was amazing. (Will Geer was a close friend of Woodie Guthrie and others who were blacklisted, but he also was well-known by people like Helen Hayes.)

OK, back to reality and to work since my students turned in their first papers last night. Thanks all for reminding me of this stuff.
