October Rabbits Rollcall

Lyn, you couldn't be boring everyone with your ankle more than I do with my rain. It was sunny and 93 this morning. Now it's overcast and thundering. The ants are trying to move in again.

I remembered Rabbits at 12:15 last night but don't remember if I said anything to the cats before that. I woke up at 4:00 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. I finally went to sleep around 8:00 for about an hour. That is so aggravating. I am trying not to nap so I can sleep tonight.

The electrician came and fixed the electric problems on the carport. Glad he got that done so I can keep the batteries charged and use the air compressor if I need it. I probably need to plug in the golf cart.

My brother and a friend have birthdays in October so need to put cards on my shopping list. I have a card I would like to send to my brother but haven't gotten up enough nerve yet. It says there are two kinds of people in the world, cat people and idiots. They use to have cats but never got another after the last one passed on. After all the things I have to do for the cats I might be the idiot.

I saw a Valentine's day card on the rack a few years back that made me laugh out loud. So I just bought it for myself (and I almost never buy greeting cards). I take it out now and again to look at when I need to smile.

On the front is a black-and-white photo of a Boston Terrier sitting on a patch of grass, looking directly into the camera (for those who don't know, this is a very small toy breed, generally black and white, upright ears, with a very short face and - generally - a very devilish grin). The dog in this photo had the Boston Terrier grin down to a "T".

On the front, below the photo of the grinning Boston Terrier, the caption reads "For this Valentine's Day, I made you a very special gift". Opening the card, the caption on the inside continues "It's out in the yard".

I guess maybe one needs to be a dog person, and maybe even a terrier person specifically, to find this funny.

I thought it hilarious, and I still laugh every time I look at it.

The wedding isn't until next March 24th but I wanted to look for a nice formal dress right away figuring it would take awhile to find the right one. So many look like prom or bridesmaid dresses, or too matronly. I didn't want to spend a lot of money either, especially for something I probably wouldn't be able to wear again. So when I saw this one I decided it was just what I was looking for. My nephew works in the movie industry and knows a lot of Hollywood people so I want to look good in case someone famous is there!

Thank you for sharing poetry. I love them. Following is my all time favorite... Most who have ever read any of it only know the first stanza and I admit that's the only one I have memorized. For years it was on my desk and I read and recited it often.

October is here that is so unreal... not ready for it but in other ways so ready for it
it is cooling off so am looking forward to the move down south... that is until I hear about the weather there
this week it's lots of wind and rain so cooler...that is in Q here it is also cooling down and suppose to have rain... we need it and won't complain... too badly anyway you know one is never satisfied with the weather it's either too hot too cold too something
This month finds me babysitting for the son while they take a cruise off the East Coast not sure what all they will do or see but
my comment was you went to Hawaii without me and now the New England States without me??? but seriously am glad for them this time it is just son and DDIL they don't get away alone very often ... but would love to see that area... so there for more days than I thought my mom's b'day is this month she will be 92 not to mention 2 gd 1 brother 1 sister and our anniversary would be our 48th... and I want to start south not sure what day Son lives in SLC so thought I might take the 5th wheel down and put it in a park for a couple of weeks but that costs more than the drive back up to get it but on the other hand warmer in UT than in ID and on the other hand that is the way my mind has been going so not sure what to do
or when ...other than babysitting that is pretty much set in stone...oh and this weekend is a family day at Lagoon not whole family can make it but many of us will Son gave me a season pass to Lagoon for Christmas haven't even taken the picture yet so really need to go and use this season pass at least one day this season
I also have started a new afghan finished one almost just have to trim the fringe and made a wreath for dd #2 she just needs to find a place for it so it's off my floor

Beth, I knew it had to be e.e. cummings when I reached the second line! He used to be one of my favorites when I was in high school and college. Not much interest in poetry anymore, I am afraid, but I did enjoy these.

Also, the second line in BJ's poem is the title of a book I loved many decades ago. It is "The Thread that Runs So True" by Jesse Stuart. It is about his experiences teaching in the hill country of eastern Kentucky in the 1940s, and well worth reading, even now. However, I went on to read some of his other books and found racist and I guess you would call them "cultural" comments about poor people being lazy and getting wealthy on welfare. That ruined the whole thing for me.

The same thing happened to me with Maya Angelou. I used to love her poetry and books, until I read one of her autobiographies that described her relationships and men and the really stupid things she did when she married them. (OK, I did some stupid things in my marriage, but she kept doing them over and over.)

Guess I should not read so much.

I used to write some poetry. One poem actually got published once. My aunt was really into writing poetry and was published in many poetry books. My dad was a fan of Rod McKuen and had many of his books.

Got two very nice tips today, one was $16 and the other was $20.
