Sept 23 Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Sept 23 Sunday

Postby BarbaraRose » Sun Sep 23, 2018 11:53 am

Everyone sleeping in or busy this morning?

Cloudy this morning but looks like the sun is trying to break thru. I can feel a cool breeze coming thru the house.

Yesterday I swept and vacuumed the outside porch and then sprayed it really good with flea/egg spray. My roommate hangs out there alot so that may be where she is picked them up from. Hopefully that will take care of the problem. I don't seem to see any more in the house.

I had a Groupon for JC Penney portrait studio so I went there yesterday and got a few photos done. Then came home and waited for the DISH guy. Got that all hooked up for my roommate. Later, a neighbor came by with lemon bars for me and my roommate.

Still feeling really tired even tho I am sleeping good now. Need to get more energy to get things done around here. Still have lots of little projects and cleaning to do.

Hope you all have a good day! :D

Lyn, I hope you are feeling better today!

Hi Barbie & all that show up!

Barbie, I wake up tired, too, but many mornings, I will wake up 3:30 and get up. But yesterday I slept until 6:30!

It is wet and much cooler in MD. It was raining when I got up and it's still raining. And when I say cool, it' only in the mid 60's and with the rain, it's just down right raw.

I asked the other organist in church if she would take over for me as of October 14th, as we plan on heading south a few days before that, because I have appointments with doctors shortly after we'll get there. Looking forward to warmer and hopefully, drier weather.

Hi Ladies! Well I did something very stupid and all my fault. I was about to take my scooter just a block and back, then come back, get money and take it down to fill with gas before loading it for leaving next week. Ty was watching peacefully out the window until I started to ride off and he started barking. I paid attn to him instead of the scooter and down we went. My ego is more bruised than the scraped knee. But I've made a decision after not riding enough over the winter and now not riding much this summer, then doing this... I'll be selling the scooter.

Temps here are beautiful today but the next week will be rainy and cold overnight so I'm going to do more preparing (dump tanks, etc) so I'll only have to do that once more before hitting the road.

Good afternoon. WOW Beth sure glad you didnt break anything and just hurt your knee and bruised your ego LOL Hoping the knee gets better quickly.

I have been very busy this morning. I am out in my storage unit sorting, throwing away, giving away etc. I am wondering why I keep some of this stuff I havent used for YEARS. Painted the marked up walls and trim on the new door. Took off the old broken tile ans ticks from the workbench and put new ones down. I was out there with a screwdriver getting the old tiles up piece by piece when my gardener/fence installer said "you need to just put a hot iron over that". He assumed I had an iron LOL Well I did and tried it and dang those tiles lifted up in one piece, I finished in about 15 minutes. Love that guy.

Now time for some relaxation and a coffee mocha...YES

Made it through my 50th high school reunion. Not that I recognized everyone. Some of those folks just plain looked old. Imagine that. Luckily several of my good friends from high school also showed up and we played, "Now, who is that?" until one of us would get up and read a name tag or just plain ask.

The town I grew up in is about 30 miles and a lifetime away from where I live now. Every once in a while in the past I have had reason to travel that way and manage to take the long way through some of the streets. Well Saturday I did that and found a for sale sign on the house I grew up in, an old Victorian, with an Open House listed for this afternoon. I called my brother to tell him only to discover that my niece had also noticed and they were already planning to visit and take my niece's two girls with them. My brother had previously met the current owner and gone through the house. Terry spent most of the time in the dining room sharing old photographs and records he had found in my Dad's files. One was the careful recording of the mortgage payments starting back in 1946. The house was built in the early 1800's and was one of the first built in that area of town. Somehow it managed to keep the lot next to it as part of the property. Better to play kick the can on growing up. My Dad bought property outside of town after he retired and had a home built along with renovating an old barn into his work shop and photo studio (and escape module from my step-mother) I had not been inside the old house since they moved in 1976.

I took my Sister in law and my niece and the two girls on the tour and showed them the secret hiding places that my brother had told them about that at one time the new owners had not even known about until my brother showed them. Much of my Dad's renovations (from the 50's and 60's) were still part of the house. The current owner, who is an architect, had had the good taste to remove the carpeting and refinish the original hardwood floors and stairway. The tree that my Dad had built our treehouse in has long been gone but I had to explain to the girls that when your Dad is an engineer, your treehouse will be well made 8x8 with a shingled roof, walls, windows and electric. The windows were even with the second story of the house so there was also some engineering on platforms and stairs to reach it. Much, but not all, of my Dad's stone work still remains. He had build a large patio of river stone and a stone fence across the back of the double lot complete with large stone compost piles, still intact.

The huge Sycamore tree in the middle of the back yard is still there and looking giant and still healthy. It has a rope swing for the current generation to enjoy as much as we did.

After my brother and his family left, Lark and I walked around the neighborhood and I told her stories of other dogs and other long walks and bike rides......

Tina I Loved your story about your reunion and your childhood home. How wonderful that so much of it remains. I hope a good family buys it. I don't like class reunions everyone else looks so old :)
It has turned cool here and I love it, even if it is raining off and on. Barbie hope you feel better soon and you can get rid of your flea problem. Have you got to spend any time getting to know your roommate? Lyn so sorry to hear you are having back pain hope you can find relief soon.

Tina, I also love the story of the home you grew up in.

Not too far from where we live, my Dad built the house I grew up in. After he sold it and it had been resold, it became a pawn shop, then a flag shop and is now a place that sells Amish barns, etc. I stopped in when it was a pawn shop to see the inside, explaining to them that my Dad built the house and they allowed me to explore. They didn't seem to appreciate the fact that I had lived there, but that was okay. I think about it every time we drive by there, which is quite often.

Tina that was a great story and what memories...
had some exciting news today ....was told not to say anything but when I explained
where I thought I would say something it was agreed that it was ok as it wouldn't
get to anyone that might know someone...then my dd said it's a small world one of her
high school classmates was shot I think by a guy that her husband (my sil) put in jail...in his home
town yep a small world but the news is
going to be joining the great grandma status. due some time in May guessing as she hasn't gone to the
Dr. just exciting news... they gave my dd a bottle of lotion named Raindeer spray I think no one quite got it till one of the
twins said something about hating that song grandma got ran over by the rain deer ... then she started crying... and questioning fun time...me I wondered the other day when gd was saying she didn't understand been wanting sweets and she isn't a sweet loving person so wasn't overly surprised
just happy about it

Tina, that is a great story about your old house! I think my dad's house is still sitting empty since we sold it a year and a half ago. Not sure what is going on with that. I wish I could go thru my Grandma's old house since I spent a lot of time there as a child. Unfortunately, it is in a very bad area now (north Minneapolis) that I wouldn't even want to drive thru during the day.

Beth, sorry to hear about your boo boo knee! Hope the scooter wasn't damaged too bad. Maybe you need to get a 4 wheeled scooter! Lol!

Sheila, congrats on soon becoming a Great Grandma! More blankets to be made!

I have been congested for about a week now so am wondering if maybe I have a slight sinus infection that is making me tired. No pain in my sinuses tho, just congested and no sneezing.

The neighbor who brought me the lemon bars yesterday invited me over after work tonight and we chatted for quite awhile. Seem to have quite a bit in common. She is very nice. Gave me a big container of soup to bring home with me! She wants to start an arts and crafts group in the park. i told her I would come up with some ideas of things we could make. We are planning to go to the new Hobby Lobby that is opening up soon just down the road and look around.

My roommate Denise works mornings and early afternoons, and I pretty much work afternoons and evenings, and she is usually already in bed by the time I get home, so we haven't had a lot of time to sit down and talk, but things seem to be going pretty well around here so far.

Heard a group of coyotes howling pretty close to the house last night. Sounded like some young ones howling too.

Was really busy at work today, so I am really tired tonight. Off to bed soon here!
