Good Morning Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Good Morning Saturday

I'm going to the store for a couple minutes then Ty and I will be heading into Rapid. Hopefully we'll help adopt out more dogs today. Then errands. We're having a beautiful September, weather wise, so far. I'll take it.

Velda, thoughts are with you! I'm hoping you can find some peace in your heart today for your birthday. Maybe a piece of cake or a special treat. Maybe just knowing Mel is out of pain. Hugs to you.

Cool and misty here this morning.

My new roommate showed up early to move in. Her son is helping her.

Need to do laundry today, organize my bathroom stuff, and then I think there will be a nap later on. :D

Have a good day! :D

The joys of a town on a river. I finally made it to town yesterday afternoon. When I was headed home there was a traffic jam on the by-pass. I couldn't see if it was an accident or the bridge was closed for a boat but it was lasting a long time. I finally made it into the turn lane to go another way. I get to the bridge I usually cross to go home and it's closed. We sit for a long time. Finally everyone starts turning around. The bridge is closed to traffic but not open for a boat so don't know if something is broken or what. I go back into town to the old bridge in downtown and it's closed letting a boat through. So we wait through a few light changes for the boat to clear. It takes me almost 30 minutes to get across the river and back to the highway home near the bridge that was closed. It's still closed. They need a sign to tell people what is going on.

I made butter again this morning. The instructions on-line say to put salt in the whipping cream before you start. If you wait until after the butter is made and drained to add salt what you pour off is just milk you can use.

It looks like we will have another hot day. They say an 80% chance of rain but I don't see anything on the radar. I need to start loading things for my trip so I can get on the road before noon on Wednesday. I checked on Issac this morning and it's still way out there. It will just be getting to the gulf Wednesday so hopefully they will know more about what it is going to do if anything.

Beth hope you can find homes for some more dogs. I keep trying to resist taking any more cats. They are closing a racing facility in Lafayette and are trying to find homes for the barn cats. I could take a barn cat but they have to be caged for at least 2 weeks or they won't stay. I am always leary about taking in a cat that might have something that it could give to my cats.

Barbie, hope it works out with your new roommate. I just can't imagine having so few things that I could move into a room in someone's house.

We're heading to Lake Huron tomorrow. I love it when the crowds are gone and the trees have started to change color! I'll have to be back for an appointment late Wednesday, but even a few days will be a treat.

I seem to be passing a kidney stone, which does not make me happy. Had a little blood in urine early yesterday and then pain later for a few hours, but went away late last night, so I slept well. Anyway, it is back now. I was going to do some relaxing reading, but can't concentrate, so trying to find something else to do. Might go for a walk--better than pacing. Did take a half vicodin. Just got to wait it out. Will go to emergency room only when I have to, as they will not be able to do anything other than give me more pain meds.

Anyway, nice day here on the river--hardly any noisy boats.

Louise, what part of Lake Huron are you headed to? I spent summers from 1950 until 2001 at my parent's cottage west of Port Austin, right next to Port Crescent State Park.

Denise got most of her stuff brought over and is back at her son's house for now. I have just been working on some small projects. We are putting our food in the hutch in the dining room so I put some window film with a bamboo design on the windows so you can't really see what is on the shelves. Looks much better.
I moved some of the shelves around in the laundry area to make room for the washer lid to come all the way open. Just organizing stuff on the shelves now. Also moved my toilet paper holder to a better spot in my bathroom. It was right next to the toilet and way too low so I moved it up higher and a little more forward. Now I need to sand the old holes, fill them and paint over it. One project always leads to another!

Washed dishes and getting caught up on laundry now.

I got a letter today from the State of California with a tax bill of $990.00. :o I panicked at first, but then realized there is no way I made nearly enough income from August to December to owe that and I already did those taxes and got a small refund. Then I looked at it again and it says for tax year 2016. I didn't even live in California in 2016. So I think it is either a scam or a big mistake on their part. I will bring it to my tax lady this week and see what she says.

Lola has been unusually affectionate lately. She normally isn't a lap cat and doesn't like to be messed with other than occasional 5 second petting or head scratching. She has been coming up on the couch and laying on me or next to me, purring, and wanting to be petted and loved on. And her dish isn't even empty! I am enjoying it while it lasts!

Judy -- I'm heading to Oscoda, about half an hour north of Tawas. I'll bet you could see the Tawas lights across the bay from Port Crescent State Park -- or at least the fireworks on the 4th!

All my life, I remember late at night seeing the Tawas lights when the lake was calm. You could just barely see them on really dark nights! I also remember very late at night in the years before I sold the cottage watching the Coast Guard search and rescue helicopters flying back and forth over the lake, so I have a great deal of respect for Huron.

Our cottage was the fifth building east of Port Crescent SP, and the fourth homeowners. (One homeowner had two cottages.) Until they built the state park, we kids used to pack up a bunch of sandwiches and go down the beach and play in the area where the state park is now for the entire day! Got water to drink from a spring which has long since been filled in. It was a great time, especially when all my cousins close to my age came up. Parents never worried about us or even missed us because they knew we kept together. Guess we were "free range" kids before there were such things. I have two cousins who have cottages in Oscoda now. Haven't seen them for years, but they are close to my age and used to live across the street from me when we were growing up.

Barbie, you are beginning to sound busier and with more projects than Sue, and that takes a LOT!

No kidney stone pain for last few hours, so am keeping my fingers crossed to make it through the night OK.
