Wow...sounds like a great time you have not even hit Alaska yet.

I love Alaska...lived on Kodiak Island for 1 1/2 years. Then my mom took Kodie and I on a cruise last Sept to Alaska. Loved it.

It is on my Bucket RV List. Yes I have a bucket list and it is all RV related. LOL

Can't wait to hear all the exciting adventures.

Today was a rainy day, so we decided not to tour Carol’s town. Instead, we reluctantly said goodbye to Carol and Bill with promises to meet again down the road….who knows? Maybe Mexico! We saw nothing but rain today, so stopped early in a nice state cg.

Image

Someone asked about our sleeping arrangements. We have twin beds in the back which serve as dinette/couches during the day. Maggie usually sleps on the left bed with Carol and Bandit on the right with me…or wherever he feels like it.

Image

Roe has his own bed in the front unless that’s where Bandit feels like sleeping.

Image

Now I have time to post some pics of our day yesterday driving from KY to southern Indiana.
We started our day at Federal Hill, the house that inspired Steven Foster to write the KY state song, “My Old Kentucky Home.” Foster was a cousin of the home’s owner, Judge John Rowan.

Image

A beautiful mansion filled with original furniture…but photos were not allowed inside.

Image

This old log structure was the judge’s office.

Image

An English style garden was in the back. A carillon (sp?) played Steven Foster songs as we toured the grounds. I took a nice little video, but I don’t have a good enough connection to upload it….so here’s a picture:

Image

This was the family cemetery. The guide told how once a gathering of family and friends contracted cholera from the well water and 8 people died in one night.

Image

We passed by the fed. Gold depository at Fort Knox, but gold panning will have to wait until Alaska.

Image

Finally some scenes from southern Indiana. I think this was just goldenrod in the fields (sneeze), but it sure was pretty, especially with the red barn.

Image

Starve Hollow State Recreation Area was a nice place to stop for lunch. They had a cg too, but we were on our way to an Indiana gtg with our new friends, Carol & Bill.

Image

The little town of Story looks like a fascinating place to explore…it’s on our list for a future trip this way…we didn’t stop this time.

Image

Pictures uploaded very slowly, but I think I’ve covered Tuesday.

Liz: Wow, that looks like my van parked in front of the Whitley house. Thanks for taking me along in your pictures. Great fun! Wish I was actually there.
May the road rise up to meet you.

Stopped at Ernie Pyle's birthplace and museum before leaving Indiana...very interesting. (For you young 'uns, he was a well known war correspondant in WWII who was killed in action while following the troops.

Image

Didn't take many pictures because this is about what we saw all the way across Illinois.

Image

In fact, that was pretty much what we saw today in Iowa too, except the sky was not blue; it was raining hard.

Tomorrow is supposed to be nice and we plan to tour the "bridges of Madison County, IA" from the movie as well as John Wayne's birthplace. Then we'll visit a friend west of Des Moines.

Really glad you checked in. Was thinking of you today as watching all those midwest storms. Good to know you are safe.

Zeee, my brain runs faster than my eyes move reading, and I saw the words, "knees" and "hitching up" and I was wondering what you were hitching up around your knees.

I know wedidthisroad before, but I'm relooking-I'm making that a word- at our Alaska trip (how I love our blog site so I can relive all our travels). I'm a little jealous-ok a LOT jealous-we may just have to do this again. BUT, in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy it with all of you. carold Maybe next time we will take the ferry back up the inside passage and see all the sites we missed.

We're still alive and well. I met up with Liz and Carol yesterday and we followed each other to Rapid City today. I have changed over my address, but have much more to do (drivers license will be tomorrow) and other things.

Liz's computer is acting up. The computer guy for America's Mailbox is going to come visit us where we're staying (Wal-Mart) hahaha - is the truth - tomorrow night and look at it for her.

We promise we will get up-to-date soon. I have to get my orders in tonight yet, so this is just a quicky.

Oh, we just met a lovely lady in the Walmart parking lot and invited her to join the forum - so be looking for Bonnie. (Cedar - if you see that name register - should be a good one :) )
