Labor Day Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Labor Day Tuesday

Postby Irmi » Tue Sep 04, 2018 12:09 pm

Hi everyone!

It's hot and humid on the eastern shore of MD. I got a call from the dental clinic that I've been going to in FL for permission to put a before and after shot of me on their website. I was elated! Without going into detail, I had a lot of dental work done and can smile again, have my confidence back and my life is complete. Pork chops are for dinner as we're out of crab meat but we'll probably get another half bushel of steamed crabs the beginning of the week.

Good morning Irmi! I need to get something done with my teeth too. The front ones are crooked and make me self-conscious. I have a chipped tooth and another one with a cavity. No money for that right now tho. Once my roommate moves in, I will have more money for things like that.

Trouble in paradise again...the homeless guy is back again and sounds like he is building something behind my house on the creek. I told the park manager and called the sheriffs dept again. Just makes me so nervous. One of the screens was off my front window last night when I got home from work and I got a neighbor to come over and go thru the house with me to make sure no one was inside. I heard a lot of pounding and other noises outside my house on the creekside the night before. I think it was just critters tho (the trap door on the skirting was removed to the underside of the house). I am feeling paranoid now. I hope they can finally get rid of this guy (and his occasional female friend) once and for all.

Had to contact my insurance agent this morning. My monthly insurance bill was $30 higher than normal. Apparently an error on their part and my insurance rate actually decreased by $10 per month. Glad I checked!

Cloudy and a little humid today again. We need rain! I need to run out and get some flea stuff and a few other things and then come back and start cleaning the master. I haven't seen any fleas around the house or gotten bitten since I fogged the place but I combed about 30+ fleas off Emily last night. Most were dead but a few live ones. Need to put the kabosh on that ASAP! Especially before my roommate moves in! I will fog again before then.

Hope you all have a good day!

Still watching Gordon. Suppose to go into Mississippi. Mississippi and Alabama will get most of the rain. There were posts on Facebook that Jim Cantore with the weather channel was in Gulfport. Keep him away from here. There are a few small scattered showers around but we might not get any rain today. That would be nice.

The other day when I was digging around in the freezer I found a pound of ground meat so this morning I made a meat loaf. It was only one pound and most recipes call for 1 1/2 pounds so I had to guess how much other things to put. I have some salsa in the refrigerator so used that instead of tomato sauce and it was pretty good. It could have used some more seasoning. I will be eating meatloaf all week unless I freeze some of it.

I need to go to the bank but haven't decided whether to go today or just wait until tomorrow. I have an appointment with a dermatologist tomorrow. They sent me some papers to fill out and I don't know what I did with them. Another big hunt.

Barbie, good thing to get your neighbor to check with you. If you are worried about someone being in your house watch your cats. They would probably be freaked out too. I know how mine act when I just have company.

The store had a good weekend. Now pretty much the lull to the end... With, hopefully, some ok weekends. Tonight we close early and go to the Powderhouse (hands down best restaurant in Keystone) for dinner. We do this every year. I offered a vote of any other restaurant anyone wanted and no one wanted to change. So I worked this morning, am relaxing this afternoon and will, undoubtedly, eat too much tonight.

It definitely is another labor day for me. Got my Power washer all figured out after an hour of troubleshooting and rereading my old instructions. I havent used it for about 5 years LOL got it all put together but couldnt get any pressure hmmmmm ??? well finally figure out it works really well IF I TURN THE WATER ON. LOL jokes on me. So then power washed and scrubbed my tile patio, carport and that side of the house. Then cleaned the windows all 9 of them. Still have to do the inside but that will be another day. Think I am done for today.

WOW Irmi that is quite the honor. Congrats.

Barbie I would use whatever works for you in the flea dept. You might have to fog again tho and vacuum really well sounds like they are hatching quickly hah

Have a great dinner Beth, I am sure you all earned it this year.

Martha I frequently slice and freeze meatloaf. Love to take out enough for either dinner or sandwiches. My favorite meatloaf sandwich, cant be beat. Now I am hungry and have hamburger thawing in the fridge so guess Meatloaf will be made.

I waited for awhile for the police to show up but figured they would just call me when they had something to tell me, so I ran to Walmart and then I got a call from them. Told them what the problem was and where to look for the guy. About 15 minutes later I get a call from the park manager wondering where I am and saying the police have been here twice. Then the police called back to say they found the guy and told him he needs to move ASAP with all 3 of his dogs. So hopefully, he will finally go for good.

Martha, I did notice the cats were nervous, but because I came in the door behind the neighbor guy, that kind of freaked them out. I am just glad they didn't go out the window while I was gone! :o Need to get the screens fixed or replaced so they don't fall out again.

Is still cloudy and a little misty out but cool and comfortable. Soon I hope to be able to get to the beach, and also go check out the Butterfly Farm in Encinitas to get some milkweed plants and mesh houses for the monarch caterpillars. That place is also right across the street from the San Diego Botanical garden that I want to walk thru. Maybe one day next week...

Time for lunch and then start cleaning...

Barbie, I don't like to see bars on windows, but maybe there is a more sturdy screen that can't be removed or cut through so easily. You really only need one or two windows left open during the day, so it might be worth the cost. Not only do you not want anyone breaking in, but you also don't want your pets to get out either.

I lived in a very safe neighborhood when I had my condo, but that is one reason why I wanted a second-floor-only unit. We each had private entrances and stairs inside up to our units, but I could leave windows open during the day or night without worrying about anyone getting in, especially since the lower units had 9' ceilings and were slightly elevated to begin with.

And maybe a motion-activated light on the back of your home? Something that hooks to regular 110 so it would be bright enough but that turns on if someone is in your backyard.

Barbie
did you ever bomb the underside of the house? might be a good idea if you are still getting them
might be coming in through the wood like I know anything about fleas we don't seem to have them knock on wood lol
sounds harder to get rid of than lice ...yuck!!!!
I think a motion light would be a good idea... I used to have one but the porch light which is where it was quit working and I keep forgetting to have it looked at... but it is something I truly loved having...
and the screens yep they need to be done so you won't worry about were they taken out or did they fall out.. sounds like a priority
good luck in getting rid of the pests two legged and otherwise

My son had put up solar motion lights all around our house, on the walk way and behind the old house on the carport. They work really well and I don't cost all that much. The old house doesn't have electricity so I put up a motion light with a solar panel in there so I can see if I forget a flashlight. I tell friends that have camped in my yard that if they see lights going on and off in the old house it's not haunted. It's the cats setting off the motion light.

Most of the windows on the house are up high enough that someone would need a ladder to get in, except for the two front ones and one porch one. I always close the one in the porch at night so critters don't try to get in. I close and lock the sliding door to the porch at night as well. The front screens are shot so I do need to get those replaced. There are pins on them to hold them in place but the pins are broken or missing. I have motion sensor lights by the back door in the carport and also on the front porch. I need a couple more on the back and side of the house. I don't want to get paranoid but want to feel secure.
Also, flea bombing under the house is a good idea. Will do that.
