The REAL last Friday in August

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

The REAL last Friday in August

Postby Irmi » Fri Aug 31, 2018 8:34 am

Good morning everyone!

We got another half bushel of steamed crabs yesterday and they went down in price, so the crabs must be quite plentiful right now. But I'll bet they'll double in price this weekend for the Labor Day holiday. We picked what we didn't eat and they'll turn into crab cakes for today's dinner and cream of crab soup for another meal. Getting good seafood is one of the main reasons we go back to MD for the summer.

My keyboard quit working, so I ordered another one, which has already arrived. So now I have a way of practicing music for church while we're on the road. The one I ordered is quite an instrument and I haven't figured it out yet, so need to do lots of reading and studying.

We have an appointment this morning, so I need to wrap this up. Have a good day!

Good morning Irmi and Everybody else. It has finally cooled down here in Hartford and I am planting a maidenhair fern a friend brought me when she came for lunch. As much as I appreciate a bottle of wine; a fern is special.... I like crab better than lobster, so Irmi I may stop by for dinner. Enjoy today. Peggy

Irmi, you're going to make me go get some crabs yet. I wish there was somewhere around here to get steamed crabs. There are places that sell live crabs and I don't want to have to mess with them. The seafood patio in town will sell an order of boiled crabs to take out but 6 crabs is about $25.

I'm thinking about going to town before the rain gets here again. We have a lot of rain predicted for the next week. Yesterday I couldn't walk Hank until 7:30 because a cloud with lightening was coming by. It never did rain but I'm not going out if it's lightening anywhere near. I would like to go to the lake but it would be a wasted trip if we get 3 to 5 inches of rain.

I bought a pot the other day to repot one of the plants on the porch. Amazingly they are still alive. Probably only because I see them every time I go out the front door. One of the plants is suppose to be orange but it has lost most of it's color. Probably because it doesn't get enough sun but if I put it where it would get more sun the ants would move into the pot.

We have a new Taco restaurant opening here in town. Close to us, so daughter and I will try it for lunch today.
That is my morning report. Lyn

Just came back from Walmart for a few things I needed. I stopped at PetSmart for cat food and looked at their aquariums. I have been thinking about getting a larger aquarium for my beta fish, Calypso. He is in a one gallon tank now and it is too small for him. They had all their aquariums half off for Labor Day weekend, so I got a nice 5.5 gallon for $29. Couldn't pass that up! Comes with a filter, hood and light. I will put a divider in it so I can get another beta and have two in there together but separated from each other.

My neighbor across the street got his house power-washed this morning. They did a really nice job so I am getting mine done tomorrow morning. I had it done shortly after I moved in here last year but it was an old Mexican guy and he didn't do a very good job and I think he charged me like $200 for it. These younger guys have their own power washing and painting company and the one I talked to seemed to really know what he was talking about. And they only charge $85. He said if I ever decide to have the place painted they will do that for $1650 including shutters, trim and railings. I will probably get that done in a year or so, along with a new roof.

I need to go around the outside of the house and move stuff out of the way in preparation for the power-washing. Then off to work later.

Kind of warm out today but it gets really nice and cool at night now. I just have my window open in the bedroom and I actually needed my throw blanket on early this morning.

Have a good day! :D

I got a message this morning from PetCoach, the dog walking service I was supposed to be working for. They had major problems with their app so they are not offering the pet walking service for awhile until they get it working again. They said it is postponed indefinitely. That is probably why I wasn't getting any jobs. Maybe I will check into a different company. There are a ton of them out here and always hiring. Everyone has dogs out here!

It's been a very long week. I called Monday for Hospice and Tuesday both the RN and their head Dr were here to assess and come up with a plan. Mel is pretty much keeping me up 24 hrs a day even with IV Dilaudid running. He is also constantly nauseated which has me adjusting head and foot of bed about every 5 min because he can no longer use the control to his bed which 2 days ago he could. It's a tough journey but we will get through it. Today's tasks included calling Jonathon Field casket company and placing order for his Navy Chiefs casket. Then I notified the funeral home they were the one of the two I chose. All so out of body like stuff to be doing ESP as everyone is asking, so what you doing for labor day? I guess it's too startling when I'm asked what are you doing to look them in the eye and say, planning my husbands funeral!

Velda, I'm so sorry you and Mel are having to go through this. I know how exhausting being on call 24 hours a day is. I lost 30 pounds when I had Harold at home because I was getting so little sleep. It's a good idea to get the funeral arrangements done which I didn't do. The cemetery vaults were done years ago for his dad, mother and him. I had my son to help me with the funeral. What I didn't know was that 12 days later I would have to plan my son's funeral. I'm not over that and don't know that I ever will be.
