Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight

Velda, I am thinking of you and Mel, and hope you are managing in this heat.

Just checked, 108 right now on my front porch (always in the shade).

My sweet Joe boy begs to go outside, his favorite red Kong clamped firmly in his jaws, hoping for a game of "Toss". I let him out. After about 30 seconds, he begs to come back in. I comply.

Temps like these can be fatal for a large, heavy-bodied dog like my Joe. I'm not talking about being forgotten in a vehicle here. I'm talking about just being forgotten out in the back yard.

Tomorrow's predicted high: 110 - 112.

Big Bucks electric bill this month, for sure. I have the thermostat set to 84. The a/c unit runs constantly. Too hot to sleep at 84, but I'm trying not to over-stress the a/c unit. If it quits, I am S.O.L.

Over and out.

Be careful out there with both dogs and people’s health. Report back when you can.

I sure hope that heat doesn't last too long. Do you at least have a fan to point at both of you and help circulate the air?

All of you on the heat and some in the fires, some both, please take care!

Beth I think fans are a lifesaver. I have ceiling fans in each of my rooms but dont always have them all on at once. I have a couple of box fans that move my cool air around and a small fan in my bedroom along with the ceiling fan at night.

Emma likes to go out in the morning when it is cooler so that is when we go out and do some playing and she can watch the people go by. A couple dogs often stop to visit but after about 10am she wants in and it is her nap time at 11 ha ha ha In the afternoon she just goes out to potty and wants right back in.

All things being relative, it’s hot at the beach, too. We’ve been in the 80s, but with the humidity that comes from living close to the water it feels hotter than that.

When we moved here last year one of the non-negotiable was air conditioning. And I have to say that I shamelessly run it when the weather gets like this. Yes, the bill is going to be big, but budgeting for it during the summer months helps offset it. We also have ceiling fans which run pretty much non-stop, and those help keep the air moving allows us to keep the thermostat a little higher than if we didn’t use them. And we’ve put that heat-reducing film on the windows most affected by the sun. It’s amazing what a difference it’s made in keeping the living room cooler. Still tons of light gets through, but the heat is definitely cut down.

It’s a dance. Learning the rhythm of keeping the house cool takes time & practice. Fortunately it cools down enough in the evening to open the door and get some fresh air in before closing everything up and heading to bed.

Wednesday evening news said our heat wave may last another two weeks! I cancelled am els VA appointment for tomorrow because I don't want him to have to be out in parking lot even in wheel chair in 100 plus heat and Annes riht, predicted 110! So. Get a day off driving late in day. But hope smog place is open to get test done as it was closed due to equipment failure!
Staying hydrated and taking care of Mel keeping me busy.
