I made it to Durango, CO today - staying 3 days to visit friends. Looking forward to meeting up with Liz and Carol in SD and start our travels together a tad sooner than planned.

Carol and I are meandering through Kentucky. We stayed last night in Corbin, KY which is in Whitley County. Carol’s dd didn’t know who Whitley was, so when we passed the Whitley House we stopped to find out. Found out the Kentucky Derby got its foundation here.
Here’s the house built in 1785:

And here’s what we learned about Whitley:

Unfortunately the house was not open for tours on Monday, but we walked the critters and had a nice lunch on the grounds.

Our next stop was historic Danville Constitution Square. No cost to tour these historic buildings and pets were welcome too. (But we didn’t tell them)

Grayson’s Tavern housed the visitors’ center. This building was the site of political debates that influenced the course of statehood.

This shows the grounds with the courthouse in the background.

In the background is the first post office west of the Alleghenies, built pre 1792.

Here’s Carol at the Governor’s circle. Shelby, Gov. #1 & #5 is shown shaking hands with Daniel Boone in the statue.

Tonight we are staying at “My Old Kentucky Home State Park.” We’ll tour the house that inspired the song before starting out in the morning.

By the way, Belle is fine, she's resting in her nest. (In the closet...where she won't get hurt

Yes, the journey has begun. Am looking forward to it all. I've seen the inside of a PW, who is sleeping where? A nice way travel in Alaska, you'll be able to drive and camp in places a bigger rv couldn't go. carold

Ok, Mitch...you want bears, and bears you shall have. I haven't seen one yet, but my brother sent me this pic of one who wandered through his camp in NH this morning:

LOL - THAT almost made me spit my tea!!

And the bear picture - OMG...does that happen a lot in NH? Bears are the reason I wanted to move to Montana (but hubby said 'no' because he couldn't take that kind of cold at his age. So here we are in Tennessee, on the opposite side of the state that has the bears!)

Love your pictures, and I think we're all having fun following your trip already!!!

Keep up the (as they say here in the South) "bahr" pictures!!! Okay, so 'camping' in my driveway did NOT take away my envy...deep & heavy sigh...

Thanks for all the Whitley info! Very, very interesting.
Having lived in Alaska for 21 yrs I'm not interested in living in bear country again. I'm now enjoying walking in nearby state parks and not having to carry a weapon and worry if you'll be eaten alive, or stomped to death by a moose! :o
