So last night was pretty quiet except for three loud booms...re your post Anne, & assure you that you speak for me, & I would guess for many others. Returned from our morning walk, cruised the yard to visit my flower & veggie gardens, found more plastic & gunpowder chunks that I'd missed. Promptly threw them over the fence into my neighbor's yard. Thankfully, my 6ft fence prevented much more debris from littering my yard, so that's a plus. And I ignore the bazillion pieces of cardboard (about an inch square or less) hoping they'll deteriorate quickly... BJ (& Pat who posted on pets), drugging dogs (chemicals or natural sedatives) is not an option for private citizen fireworks. I'd used them on one of my dogs for expected public displays & for thunder when I knew storms were predicted. However, none of my neighbors post a schedule of when they plan to set off their display--& these are the "professional" type fireworks, shooting up to 40-50 ft into the air, launched less than 75 ft from my back door. Also, they now come in boxes of about 10-12 tubes, ignited by one fuse, producing a continuous barrage of booms & sparkles. I found that out recently, even saw the "aftermath" of several boxes. And as I mentioned, totally illegal! Rant ended! I will speak with my GOOD neighbor who was elected Town Supervisor this past Nov, however he & other neighbor have been "neighborly" since long before I moved back here...Taking legal action against the town for non-enforcement is rolling around in my mind...Oh, & leaving town is not an option unless the town wants to pay my camping fees for a week or so--these fireworks start days before the 4th & continue days after! OK, rant over, I promise!

Heat wave officially over! Just a spatter of rain overnight, cloudy & much cooler this a.m., but looks like any measurable rain has skirted us. Sheila, so strange to hear you're dealing with the opposite weather! Looks like I'll be able to keep doors & windows open all day for cool air!

Alice, forgot to congratulate you on officially having a new 4-legger! Didn't realize you've gone back to work? Sorry to hear about your "unsettled" state as you watch your neighbors leave in droves:( Can't even imagine what that would be like?

No plans for the day other than to bake a cake later this evening. Bro & I are going to my neice's tmrw for a quiet celebration of her bday. So happy to have her near enough to go over for a half day trip:)

Good morning all. Finally, the sun is coming out after a few days of rain storms. Yesterday we had 3 come through before I went to bed last night with heavy downpours. And between the hot and humidity it’s not been a comfortable few days. Cooler temp and humidity coming in now. Finally turned the air conditioning off and opened some windows. Progress!
Hopefully the fireworks are about over but I have my doubts. I have one dog that gets scared of load noises. Between the thunder and man made boomers it’s not been a good week for him. Dislike fireworks in general but this just adds an extra layer to it.
I have my daughter in laws rottie visiting for a few days while they are in Ohio at motorcycle races with his boys. Luckily all 3 of the dogs get along so it’s not been a problem. It was funny last night when all 3 of them were sacked out on the living room floor. Peace reigned. As long as they can see me they seem content! Only time they aren’t shadowing me is when I run the vacuum, then they scatter!
Lyn, happy to hear about your daughter’s progress. And Abby has a new forever home! Lucky pup! Alice, it must be difficult seeing your neighborhood being taken away. Irma, glad you all made it back to MD! Lots of other travels happening it sounds like! Still hoping to get away in a couple of weeks for a few days. Been busy helping son and wife get their house packed up so they can get it on the market soon. They may be living in the rv for awhile if it sells as quickly as others have in their area. That’ll be interesting!
Ok, not much else going on here right now. I’ve been going to go to the store for several days but guess today is the day I need to really do it! I’m out of several basics so no excuse! Hope you all have a great day and week end. Travel safe if you are on the road.

If it were just me, I'd be looking for bigger-and-better firework displays; the best I ever saw were for the Lunar New Year in Hong Kong.

Even I hate the ones that go off erratically in my neighborhood. Drew, poor boy, hates all of them. The good thing about staying at home is that he considers the house, the van, and me to be safe zones. I can be relatively confident that he won't panic and bolt. So we stay home.

Finally, a day that's pretty enough to have the house open!

Sorry some are having such a problem with the fireworks. A few years ago some fireworks went into a equipment shed that belonged to the parish and burned a lot of equipment. I don't remember if they ever charged anyone for the damage. I am pretty sure it's against the law to shoot off fireworks in the cities around here but not much they can do to the people in the country. When there is a burn ban you could probably get in trouble. I always thought fireworks were too expensive years ago when my boys wanted them. No telling what they cost today.

I figured that if I complained enough we would get a storm. Yesterday afternoon we had a storm with high winds, lightening and another inch and a half of rain. It blew the plants on the porch over. I thought it had knocked the electricity off but it just tripped the breakers for part of the house.

I need to go to town but don't know if I will make it at the speed I'm moving.

There are a lot of missing dogs around here. I am on NextDoor.com and lots of people are posting their missing dogs. The SD Humane Society is waiving their fee to claim dogs they are taking in there. They get so many dogs brought in after the 4th, that they were looking for temporary foster homes beforehand for the dogs they have there already, to make room for the ones coming in due to the fireworks.

Ava, I am sure it is sad to watch your neighborhood, where you have lived for so long, literally disappear. Changes like that can be very stressful emotionally. Do something fun for yourself!

We are now in a brief heatwave on the left coast. It will be in the 90's and some places inland over 100 today. Then cooling off again. I have the fans going in the house since there is very little breeze outside. Had a small fan in the window in my room last night which worked pretty good. Luckily, it cools off at night around here. Glad the rest of you are starting to cool off!

Have to work later this afternoon. Need to do a few things around here before then but not feeling very motivated .

Good Morning, I concur with all the ranting about the fireworks! Casey and Zipper both used to be petrified of the loud bangs. Benji doesn't seem to mind. They are so dangerous as well as annoying. San Diego has had a ban on "home" fireworks for a number of years. I do not know how that is working in the suburbs, downtown had no personal fireworks as we have the professional BIG BANG out in the bay.

Val left this morning for Alaska. She is meeting the boyfriend (who rode his motorcycle) in Seattle. Together they will tour Alaska for a month on the motorcycle!

I have to go to the store today too! I really do not like shopping for anything.

Our heat wave is expected to arrive today. Firemen are on alert!

And how about those idiots who think it's fun to shoot guns into the air! Cats seemed to take the booms in stride and we didn't seem to have as many illegal fireworks or gun shots as previous years. Heatwave has arrived with a vengeance = it's just after noon here in SoCal and my thermometer on the patio says 110 degrees! Keeping fingers crossed that they don't turn my A/C off. If they do, I hope it's only a short while. In order to keep my electric bill within reason I signed up for the save energy program that gives them permission to turn my A/C off when there's too much drain on the grid. I'm betting it will get to 116 by 3:30 or 4:00 today!

I couldn't agree more about fireworks - been a pet peeve for years! Our dog was a mess during the 4th of July and of course all the days around it. 4 houses caught fire in one Washington State neighborhood thanks to fireworks. I also feel sorry for the men and women with PTSD. One could prepare selves or pets if it was just one day/evening. And to not pick up their messes afterward - yard or street or beach.

Martha, I think your storm came up to Maryland! At least it cooled the day off! Coming here was not my brightest idea with this weather and no electric but I saw wild horses when I got here yesterday!

Enjoy the birthday party, Carolb! Evie, that's just too hot! Lyn, I rather envy that Alaska motorcycle trip! Alice, sad to watch the homes move I'm sure, but hopefully something better is around the corner.

Yes Evie, take care! It is super hot up where you are now. Even just inland a little ways from me it is 15 to 20 degrees hotter. It is 94 here at my place in Vista and 114 in Escondido about 15 miles east of me.
Luckily, this is a short lived heat wave. Hoping no major fires get started. There have already been a few smaller ones today.
