Thanks. I also did not know the story about the flags until I started looking for the flag of Scotland.

I am having trouble blogging every day. Been having to walk at least 2-3 miles a day, plus climb up and down several flights of stairs in the Underground stations--almost none have escalators! I am just not used to so much walking and back is not doing well.

Other struggle is finding bathrooms. Most restaurants will not let you use theirs unless you eat there, and there are very few public bathrooms. Thank heaven for McDonald's and Burger King!! And their bathrooms are either up a flight or down a flight of stairs, which is just what you need when you are tired and in a hurry to use the bathroom!! And those two places are the only places where you can get a soft drink with ice in it!!

Wonderful,wonderful blog post Judy. I have read many books that take place in London. There used to be a tour group that took you to certain areas where the book took place. For example, “Call the nurse” in East London. That would be on my bucket list, if I had a bucket list!!!

I am trying to include the good, the bad, and the difficult, so others who do come here will have it a lot easier in terms of a learning curve. Even though I have been here three times before, I still forget how to do things like navigate without getting lost.

For example, if you ask for a bathroom, they will think you are nuts, so you need to ask for the toilets. And today I came really close to taking a photo of a toilet but decided against it. The thing was that it was square--yes, really square. For the life of me, I cannot figure out the reason for having square toilets!! And getting ice is a major issue--Brits like their beer and most drinks barely cold. If you know me, you know I carry around a bottle of water with a big ice cube in it. I have been bringing home take-out after the shows and buying a Coke from the tiny bar in this hotel and asking for a glass of ice with it.

I was in London many, many years ago and barely remember my adventures there, it was so long ago (40+ years). Such fun to travel along with you! Thank you for taking the time to write such wonderful descriptions, and to post such illustrative photos. I'm LOVING it!!!

You have a LOT more energy than I do, lady!!!

If you have time to see some of the shows there, I would highly recommend "The Phantom of the Opera". It is quite wonderful, and at times amazing (I have seen the stage show here in the States more than once). The music, singing, staging, costumes, special effects - ALL fabulous. And, if you don't think you like "opera", think again. Lloyd Weber himself has stated, "it is actually a rock show just masquarading as an opera". VERY apt description, indeed!

A word of warning, though: If you see it, be advised that you will likely have great difficulty getting the music to stop playing in your head in a kind of endless loop.

The show (at least of those that I have seen) really is that good.

I agree, Anne, regarding Phantom of the Opera. I had occasion to spend time in London and southern England while working on three different one-month assignments. Each time I made sure I saw Phantom and it was fabulous each time.

Love your blog Judy. Brings back great memories. I love London and was amazed how easy it was for this “country girl” to get around easily on the Tube. If you get a chance to go to Bath to the west of London I highly recommend it - along with Stonehenge, of course.
