Friday - AK, Here They Come!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday - AK, Here They Come!

Postby mitch5252 » Fri May 08, 2009 2:17 am

Well, we're up putting cars and 4-wheelers in their respective homes - severe weather is on its way and I sure as heck don't want hail damage on our vehicles! Why am I not surprised? But the evening is beautiful outside just now, full moon, warm breeze. I just want the rain to STOP! Enough already. Some of the corn around here will need replanting!

So, I thought I'd put on the pot and set out the goodies. I've left you some of my leftover Pineapple Upside Down Biscuits, recipe courtesy of Barbzee...oh, wait - there aren't any leftovers. Sorry. I'll have to make another batch. When hubby and I traveled on our big trips, we'd usually start departure day morning off with a Mimosa celebration, but you guys are driving...I'll just leave the Mimosas for others who don't have to get behind a wheel!

Well, today's the big departure day? Alaska will most likely never be the same. I, for one, can't wait to make this trip through you. What a dream time you all are going to have!

I hope everyone has a great day, wet or dry.

ooooohhhhh Mitch! I'll just call in sick to school and have one of those mimosas! yummmmmmm..... Thanks for getting the coffee on for us.

I know that Soosie is not working today as the library at her school is being used for the AP testing. I'll guess she's either down at the leato at the pond or out in her camper enjoying a relaxed morning. I'm sure that Beth I heading north soon and Liz will be shutting off the lights just before she walks out the door for a few months. Wonder if they will notice we are riding along on the back bumper?

It's still raining here. We'd had such a dry spring that we did need the rain but I think enough already! Looks like we won't have a completely dry day until Tues. or Wed. here. Oh well, it IS spring!

I'm headed out for the weekend to visit with some camping friends from my a-frame group. See you all on Sunday when I get home,..unless I find wifi somewhere!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning everyone! Thank you, Michelle for the send-off. I actually won't get on the road until tomorrow morning....I still have one more dr. appt. today, and an unexpected visit back to the audiologist to get wax removed from my ear (want to be able to hear those moose calls). After that I'll clean the house thoroughly, one more load of laundry, finish packing the rv, give Roe a bath....etc. Will be a busy day.

For some reason Belle is all in a tizzy...she keeps muttering something about being housetrained...don't know what has ruffled her feathers. Maybe it's because I mentioned that everybody had to have a bath before we leave. She'll settle down once we're on the road.

Have a great time camping Cedar! You too Soos...I think you planned to camp too, at least by the pond. Everyone else, I'm praying for safety in storms and pleasant travels everywhere.

ps...around here mimosas are trees that bloom about now, and I'm allergic to them, so I'll pass on the mimosa!

GOOD MORNING!!

Thanks for the coffee and goodies, Mitch! That Mimosa looks very tempting, but I need to drive to town, so will take it and store in the refrigerator for later!

Sorry I'm late, but, as Cedar said, I'm taking today and Monday off as the high school library is closed for AP exams. I got to sleep in late this morning out here in the trailer. That back bed really sucks-----I have a wicked backache when I sleep back there, and get leg cramps all night. I will try to fix that matress area up this weekend, adding some more memory foam, perhaps, or even trying to move an inner-spring matress out here, topped with memory foam. I LOVE the flip-out bed that the couch becomes, as it's softer and when topped with memory foam is REALLY comfy. The only problem with that is-----when it's a bed, it isn't a sofa! I hardly ever (never?) have any company, so maybe that's a non-problem! Sigh....I will work on this bed thing.

It's still raining here this morning, too----not heavy like yesterday morning, but grey, cool and rainy. As all of you on he east coast know, this rainstuff is getting boring! This has not been a normal spring anywhere in the country. I could really mow my grass if the sun ever comes out--- before it turns into a jungle out there!

Those getting on the road for the Alaska Caravan, have a SUPER WONDERFUL trip!!! We here at home will be waiting patiently (or maybe not so patiently) for any news and pictures that might come our way.

Cedar, have a fun weekend with your Chalet buddies!

I will go pick up my paycheck at school this morning, and deposit some money. Then I'll pay bills, shop for some groceries, and who-knows-what after that! Work on my sleeping quarters, I guess.

I hope you all find something fun to do inside, if your weather is icky out there.

HAPPY TRAILS!

Good-morning Everyone!!!
Another yukky day here and another trip into town, which is a ways from here. Sure messes up a day. Finally got my check from Superior court though, for the jury duty, more then I expected too, so will forgive them for the mix up, I was supposed to pick it up yesterday and they had mailed it, was in the mailbox when I got home. So just another reason for todays trip. I was able to get the ins. on my r.v. taken care of. Now the agent for the car, says she can't help me. Will have to give it another try, today. Its due June the 3rd, the r.v. isn't due until July 13 th, so tell me please what the problem could be? I am so ready to find another agent, they are never helpful down there.

Tomorrow, at noon will take my r.v. in to my service guy, he is going to do some repairs for me this summer, plus start my generator periodically so it doesn't go bad on me. He, Bless his heart, even offered to take it down and get it inspected for me, plus he will do the service, oil change etc. So in some areas of the business I had to take care of within these 5 days, It has gone smoothly and then some. BUT the problem areas of business, are causing me more gray hairs :D I will be so ready to leave here. I'm ashamed to say, my home will not be clean as Liz plans to leave hers. Not because I haven't tried. All these stormy days, are really getting old, my yard is so soggy.

Well, off to town I go, AGAIN !!! Have a great day everyone, stay safe, dry, wherever you are, and whatever you do.

God Bless,
Carol

Morning everyone - Miracle of miracles - it is not raining and we had SUNSHINE and BLUE sky for about two hours late yesterday afternoon. WOW forgot what it looked like. I've seen more rain since we got back a month and a half ago then I saw the 40 years we lived in CA and NV. DH says the green is worth it. I don't think so. Everything is green now, the oaks finally got their leaves and the dogwoods are blooming. Walked down the hill searching for mushrooms but didn't find any, doesn't mean they arent there. Found a dry river bed down there....Everything was great until I turned around and saw how far back UP the hill I had to go. Good grief - though I'd die before I got to the top. So out of shape. The hosue is still being painted. Little by little. Will take picture when finished.
Working on my stained glass window. Went into town to pick up the glass I ordered for the background and they forgot to order it.......supposed to be in late today.
This afternoon I am taking a machine free motion quilting class. Should be interesting. Then I'll finish my one set of place mats. She says!
Am still using my laptop in the house running the Internet off the setup on the motorhome. The guy who installed it was supposed to set up a satellite dish for the house but ended up having surgery Monday. For some reason I can get on line using IE and Firefox but not AOL and that is where all my addresses etc are set up. Might have to go sit in the Alfa to do my business....
Reading about everyones tirips I'm getting antsey to go somewhere.

Good Morning all
Yesterday we actually had a whole day without the sky leaking; not only did it not rain, there were a few hours of real sunshine. I should have pulled the camera out for that event for there is more rain today and thru early next week. Ugh!

I spent the afternoon helping a new friend with pricing for a yard sale - her first ever. She is planning to have several sales to reduce what she will have to move when she sells her house (a recent widow who has decided to move to LA to be near her son). I will try to sell a few of her better items thru one of the antique mall booths. Have warned her that that may not be a very quick way to dispose of items as sales the past few months have been way below normal. We'll just have to see.

So excited for all of you headed out somewhere this weekend. Safe travels to each of you.

It is a great morning here...we actually have blue sky's with some weird looking bright yellow-orangery orb in the sky...I have heard that some people call it sun.

Today is another busy homeschool day. Thu and Fri are our run around busy day. We have homeschool co-op this am. I have an art class that i teach to for 1st to 3rd graders. Then the older kids have their classes. After that we go to the library then home for late lunch and relax for about 1 hour. Then it is out the door with the girls. Our older daughter had Ball room dance team, they are getting ready for a show next weekend. Then our special needs daughter has horse back riding. Then it will be home...where tonight...our oldest and his girlfriend will be cooking us dinner. She is a great cook and it is our version of "eating out". I believe my son told us that London Broil and peach cobbler were on the menu.

Our RV is all serviced and ready to be picked up. We will have to pick it up on Monday, as I just can't squeeze it in, since I want the weight distribution system checked. As we have a new tow vehicle that sits higher then our older one and they need about an hour for that. So it will be all ready except for the cabinet issue..we are waiting for new cabinet doors from the manufacturer...I hope..for that we went back to the dealer. We really liked dealership...but the service after the sale is less then to be desired. So we opted to get it serviced by another place this year, so we will see how that goes.

I will have to pass on the drink since I have to drive the kids. I will keep in the frig for tonight with dinner.

They will most likely notice us if we burst into a Mimosa-inspired, off-key rendition of Alaska's State song - "Alaska's Flag" ! ! !

Have a fun time, Cedar, with your camping buds.

Michelle

We all need to learn the AK song Mitch so we can let them know when we want to approve or direct!

We had terrible storms all night with lots of lightening, thunder and hail. I noticed Winnie wasn't in her bed & I looked and looked for her & finally found her under my bed. It started in again around 11:00 this morning and has been raining buckets. Hate to think what our basement looks like and hope none of the trees fall down from being so waterlogged. The dogs wanted to sit in Moms lap, DH just wouldn't do today. I finally gave Andy some Rescue Remedy and he has settled down a bit. Thankfully the sky is getting brighter, it was really dark for awhile.

Ah, until I get rid of the scooter carrier on the back, there's room for a couple of you there :) Course, I expect to be rid of it before entering Canada. But if you really want to catch a ride, I can leave it on. Ha

Today is a mixed feelings day for me. Sparkle and I have had a great several months, between the time she came and went from Port A with me - and now this month + of traveling. Sparkle is NOT a hugger, but she didn't fight it this morning. I know we both are heading to great things - her back to her job at the GC and time with her friends there, and her soon to be new friends, Echo and Kelly. And I really am looking forward to getting to Canada and AK - but at the same time ..... Well, you all know - hard to part from good friends.

OK, am holed up for 2 days at an absolutely no frills park (Passport America) in Corez, CO - and I plan to do a bunch of my web work while here - I'm sooooooooo far behind. If I feel I'm getting enough progress there - will get all the rest of my pics upped to my puter and start sorting, and posting some more from the past month.

On Sunday, I'm staying in Durango for 3 nights at a park giving me a freebie if I attend to buy their membership. Have done this at a few other parks over the years. Still haven't had one of them offer me a deal I can't refuse. But I have friends in Durango - will be back on Sunday sometime from their vacation - and I want to see them. Then up to Brush, CO to spend some time with some of my webbuilding friends. From there, I hope to see a friend near Cheyenne - then to SD to get my address changed, etc - and wow - Canada and Alaska, here I come.

Liz, if you read this - I was just re-reading my notes about Canada (which I do NOT want to hurry through) and at the last AK seminar I attended, the gent said to make sure to hit the 3 Canada National Parks on the way up - I've included them on my itinerary - how about you? Course, after we all meet, I'm sure we'll have some changes, possibly compromises, but I want to see as much as I possibly can - don't know if I"ll ever get this way again.
